R. James Dowler
KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP - Richard James Dowler, age 75, of Donna Drive, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at his home.
He was born October 10, 1929 in Ashtabula, OH, the son of Wallace L. and Ida (Andrus) Dowler and had been a resident of East 40th Street for many years.
A 1947 graduate of Harbor High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from The Ohio State University through the ROTC Program and later earned a data processing degree from Kent State University, Ashtabula Campus.
Prior to his retirement, he worked 23 years as treasurer for Iten Industries.
A member of the Conneaut Church of Christ since 1973, he also belonged to the Ashtabula Exchange Club, where he served as secretary for 25 years and helped establish Exchange Clubs in Geneva, Rock Creek and Conneaut.
He collected stamps, coins, Time and Life Magazines, and enjoyed gardening, roses, and working on his former home and yard on East 40th Street. He was particularly fond of his 1929 antique Marmon car.
His survivors include his son-in-law, Mark D. Bovee and one grandson, Marc J. Bovee, both of Kingsville Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Dowler in 2001; his daughter, Sharon Bovee on January 13, 2004; one brother, Herbert King Dowler; one sister, Betty Jean Cowler Colvin; and his parents.
A Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2004, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Tim Kraus, Minister of the Conneaut Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, North Kingsville.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, December 9, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to the Conneaut Church of Christ.

Brian E. Cutter
ASHTABULA – Brian E. Cutter, 34, a resident of Ashtabula, entered heaven Tuesday, December 7, 2004 and is now walking with angels. He fought a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis for 15 years.
Born in Ashtabula May 17, 1970, he was the son of Lawrence and Arlene (Paulik) Cutter.
He was a 1988 graduate of Harbor High School.
Survivors include his mother Arlene Cutter Staida of Ashtabula; his step father Larry Staida; a sister Tracie Towner of Ashtabula; a niece Raechal Towner; a nephew Ryan Towner and aunts Kathleen (Jim) Welty and Jackie Jastatt.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Violet Paulik.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th Street, Ashtabula. The Rev. Neroy Carter will officiate.
Relatives and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service.

James Mortie (Mynhier) Mannier
ASHTABULA – James Mortie (Mynhier) Mannier, 84, of South Ridge East, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Carrington Park.
Calling Hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at the BURTON FUNERAL HOME, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 7 at the funeral home.
BURTON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula is in charge of the arrangements.

George J. Visconty
LOUISVILLE, CO - George John Visconty, age 82, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004, at a Hospice facility in Louisville, CO. He had been living in Boulder, CO for the past four months. The cause of death was congestive heart failure, and his family was at his side when he died.
George was born February, 19, 1922 and raised in Ashtabula, OH, and graduated from Case Institute in Cleveland, OH.
He worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Mobil Oil Corporation, his entire professional life, working in Texas, New York, South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
He and his wife, Lorene, loved to travel, especially to France and Italy. She preceded him in death in September of 2003.
In his spare time, George played Bridge and Cribbage and was a talented woodworker and jazz pianist. He also liked inventing gadgets for around the house and tinkering with clocks.
Surviving George are his son, Mark and his wife, Wendy, of Seattle, WA and their son, Gregor, and their daughter, Sasha and her husband, Tim, also of the Seattle area; his daughter, Kathy and her husband, Tom, of Longmont, CO and their son, Bryon, of Highlands Ranch, and their second son, Matt and his wife, Kathi, also of Highlands Ranch, and their two children, Lissa of Portland, OR, and Cam of Seattle, WA.
A small family gathering was held in Longmont, CO. George will be buried in Ashtabula, the time of burial will be announced at a later date.

Bernice K. Johnson
ASHTABULA - Bernice K. Johnson, who was currently a resident of Ashtabula Towers, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the age of 88 years, while visiting her daughter, Carol Johnson, of Milwaukee, WI.
She was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County. In her earlier years, she taught third grade at State Road School.
She was the widow of R. Donald Johnson, who passed away in 1973, and was the superintendent of, the then, Union Dock.
For a number of years, she worked at the Ashtabula County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was also a long-time member of Garden Trails Garden Club.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Carol Johnson and son-in-law, Ronald Bundy, of Milwaukee, WI; and her brother, Herbert E. King and sister-in-law, Deloris King, of Ashtabula. She is further survived by dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Donald Johnson; her mother, Julia Frazier; and stepfather, Joseph Frazier.
Services will be August 10, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ashtabula, with Mother Barbara Johnson presiding. Following the service, a luncheon will be served. A private burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be August 10, 2004, from 11 a.m. until time of Service at the Church.
Memorials in her honor can be made to the Ashtabula County Chapter of the American Red Cross or St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, OH, has charge of the arrangements.

Verna L. Bell
ASHTABULA - Verna Lee Bell, age 73, of West 58th Street, died Sunday August 1, 2004, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.
Born June 5, 1931 in Louise, MS, she was the daughter of Augustus and Alean (Page) Delaney, and has lived in Ashtabula most of her life. Verna was a 1949 graduate of Twinsburg High School.
Verna worked for Ashtabula City Public Schools as a cook’s helper for 20 plus years before retiring.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Ashtabula Chapter.
Mrs. Bell enjoyed bowling, movies and her grandchildren
Survivors include her husband, David Bell, whom she married June 20, 1953 in Ashtabula; three daughters, Renee of Ashtabula, Sybil and Vanessa, both of Columbus; four sons, Tony and Tim, both of Ashtabula, David, Jr. of Warren and Ronald of Norfolk, VA; and one brother, Earl Delaney of Warrensville Heights.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Carrie Thompson and Mary Greene; and four brothers, Luke, Emmett, Roseavelt and Roiverdes.
Service will be 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2004, at ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Reverend Thomas McCain, Pastor of Living Word Christian Center in Madison, officiating.
Calling Hours will be Thursday from 2 p.m. until time of Service at the Funeral Home. A dinner will be served immediately after the Service at People’s Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 3837 West Avenue, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Western Reserve Hospice or American Diabetes Association.

THOMAS C. KELLY
ASHTABULA -- Thomas Charles Kelly, age 77, of Ridgewood Avenue, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at UHHS-Memorial Hospital of Geneva.
He was born February 19, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Francis and Grayce (Lally) Kelly, and had been an area resident most of his life.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, he worked as truck driver for PraxAir and previously for Geneva Disposal. Unable to cope with retirement, he took a job as a security guard with Millennium and had worked up to this past week.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He grew up attending St. Joseph Church, where he served as an altar boy. He enjoyed mechanic work, driving trucks, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His survivors include his wife, Nina (Burgandine), whom he married October 16, 1972; seven children, Terri Weaver of Kingsville, Danny (Mary) White of Ashtabula, William (Shannon) White of Tennessee, Tommy, Michael, and Lynnette Kelly, all of Ashtabula, and Michele Shick of Ashtabula; 12 grandchildren, Nickolas III, Stephanie, William O., Summer, Krysta, Kandice, Krystal, Michael II, Tauri, Devon, Tom, and Cherish; five great-grandchildren, Trevor, Courtney, Tyler, Morghan, and Nichola; and one sister, Mary Lou McCauley of Akron.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Kelly; one sister, Patricia Keplinger; and his parents.
A Service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2006, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Reverend Father Philip Miller, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church, will preside. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, where Geneva VFW Post 6846 will conduct Full Military Honors.
Calling Hours will be Wednesday, February 15, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to the family.
