Nelson R. Goodale
CONNEAUT - Nelson R. Goodale, 86, of Mill Street, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Conneaut, a son of Raymond and Alice (Ward) Goodale.
A 1934 Conneaut High School graduate, he was employed 38 years as a trainman for the Nickel Plate Railroad and Norfolk & Western Railroad, retiring in 1975. He also owned Goodale TV and Radio Sales and Service, the Mill Street Car Wash, and, at one time, ran a coal delivery business.
He was a member of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, and was a Cleveland Indians fan. He enjoyed reading and traveling, and had visited all the states but one, and wintered in Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Thompson), whom he married Sept. 1, 1963; a daughter, Yvonne Tantari of Perrysburg; a son, Richard of Painesville; a stepson, LeRoy Bean of North Kingsville; a brother, Kenneth of Suitland, Md.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Amanda, in 1961; and his sister, Gertrude Maukonen.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Christine Strachan of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church or to the Conneaut Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Stephen R. Stoneman
BELLAIRE, Mich. - Stephen R. "Stoney" Stoneman, 51, formerly of Tampa, Fla., died Friday, April 4, 2003.
He was born in Ashtabula and has aunts and uncles who still live in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Debra; four children, Diane Hartman, Stephen Batchelder, Emmanuelle Batchelder and Stephen Parsons Jr.; his mother, Theresa Moroski; a sister, Sharon Moroski; and a grandson, Dylan Hartman.
A memorial service will be held in Michigan. Arrangements are being handled by the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, Waterford, Mich.

Dorothy M. Rolland
CONNEAUT - Dorothy M. Rolland, 90, formerly of Lake Road, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center, where she had been a resident since 1994.
She was born May 5, 1911, in Mayfield Township, the daughter of Maurice W. and Vergie M. (Tibbets) Akins.
Following graduation from Madison High School in 1929, she attended Western Reserve University School of Education, and received her teacher's diploma from Kent State University in 1932. She taught in Lake County schools until 1937.
On Oct. 5, 1937, she married Henri Rolland.
When her children reached school age, she returned to teaching at Rowe School, teaching seventh grade from 1951-52. She then returned to her love of first grade, teaching at Lakeview School, Conneaut, from 1952 to 1956. She retired from Northview School, West Geauga School District, in 1972, having moved to that area to care for her parents.
She was a member of Conneaut First Baptist Church, and enjoyed making latch hook rugs for her grandchildren, and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Hogle of Conneaut; a son, Ronald of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren, David Hogle, Christine Martin, Jodi Rolland, JoAnn Hogle, Beth Jafarace, and Mark Rolland; and two great-granddaughters, Jilian Jafarace and Peyton Rolland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1954; and by two brothers, Donald and Everett Akins.
Service is 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 370 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Todd Regester officiating, assisted by Tim Kraus. A time of fellowship will follow in the church dining room. Graveside service will be Monday in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, East Conneaut United Methodist, Hope United Church of Christ of Naperville, Ill., or to the Employee Activity Fund of Inn-Conneaut Health Center. Envelopes will be at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which has charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Carl Stark
HOMOSASSA, Fla. - Former Ashtabula City Councilman Joseph Carl Stark, 82, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Crystal River, Fla. He moved to Florida 20 years ago from Ashtabula.
Born March 18, 1919, in Sunbury, he was the son of Joseph and Florence (Pierce) Stark.
Mr. Stark was a member of the Crystal River First Presbyterian Church, and a past master and past chaplain of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge 22, Ashtabula. He served three terms as a city councilman.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche; two sons, Joseph of Homosassa, and Arthur of Erie, Pa.; and a daughter, Patricia Stark of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Allen.
The Wilder-Fountains Funeral Home, 4890 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, Fla., has charge of the arrangements.

Marjorie J. Sedmak
CONNEAUT - Marjorie J. Sedmak, 65, of Keefus Road, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 13, 1936 in Conneaut, a daughter of Ben and Rose (Kraus) Sedmak.
She attended Rowe High School, was employed as head cook at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home for 30 years and had also worked at one time for the former Astatic Corp.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed crocheting and being with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed baking, especially cookies for the holidays, weddings and festivities.
Survivors include two sisters; Louise Poprocky of Conneaut and Pauline Monda of Ashtabula; two brothers, Frank and Alex Sedmak of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; Ben, Joe and Louis Sedmak, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary Church, 480 State St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Charles V. Mucci
CONNEAUT - Charles V. Mucci, 84 of Madison Street died Friday, Oct. 6 at UHHS - Brown Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 5, 1916, the son of Michael and Erminia (Fatticcio) Mucci and had been a Conneaut resident most of his life.
Prior to his retirement, he worked 42 years as a conductor and brakeman for the Nickel Plate, Norfolk-Western and Norfolk-Southern railroads.
He enjoyed golfing in this younger years, was an avid gardener and associated with the West Springfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witness.
He is survived by his wife, Marian A. (Kaull), whom he married Feb. 9, 1947; a daughter, Charlene Mucci Palm of Conneaut; a son, Charles Michael Mucci of Conneaut; three grandchildren, Ryan McFarland, Laila Korn and Shane Palm; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo of Conneaut and Ido of Las Vegas, Nev.; and two sisters, Edith Joss of Sandusky and Josephine Tredent of Ashtabula.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; Ernest, Dominic, and two in infancy two sisters, Geraldine Mucci and Violet Mucci Sommerville; and his parents.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad, Fire Station Number 3, 392 Middle Road, Conneaut, Ohio, 44030.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula is in charge of the arrangements.

Rose V. King
ORLANDO, Fla. - Rose V. King, 85, died March 25, 2003, in Orlando. She was born and raised in Ashtabula and spent the majority of her life here.
She was born May 10, 1917, to Nick and Filomena (Ray) Corrado.
Mrs. King was last employed as the manager of the Army-Navy Union, which she helped found and organize.
She enjoyed bowling and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors, all from the Orlando area, include a son, Jack Pfetsch; two granddaughters, Christine Tharp and Catherine Holder; and three grandsons, Joshua, Nathaniel and James.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alvira Paulchel, Mary Paulchel and Ann Rizzo; a brother, Joe Corrado; her first husband, John Pfetsch, in 1968; and her second husband, Cyril King, in 1979.
A family Mass was held in Orlando on April 4, 2003. A committal service is 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow the service.
Instead of giving flowers, the family asks that donations in her name be made to SS. John and Paul Catholic School, 2150 Columbus Ave., Ashtabula, 44004.

Evener E. Joiner
CONNEAUT - Evener E. Joiner, 87, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center, where he had been a patient for the past week.
He was born Oct. 21, 1915, in New London, Conn., a son of Evener A. and Edna (Cornell) Joyner.
Mr. Joiner had lived in Arizona for 18 years before moving to Conneaut in April 2001. He spent most of his adult life in Connecticut, where he had built his own home. He worked in the warehouse for General Dynamics in Groton, Conn.
Mr. Joiner enjoyed his family, camping, traveling, and having cookouts with his brother Paul.
Survivors include his four daughters, Diana McGuire, with whom he lived in Conneaut, Nancy Brown of Marana, Ariz., Kathleen Baffuto of New York, and Rosemarie Rizzuto of Florida; two sons, Frederick Joiner of Ledyard, Conn., and Russell Joiner of Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Flora Maynard of Groton, Conn.; three brothers, Milton Joyner of Waterford, Conn., Paul Joyner of Enfield, Conn., and William Joyner of Oakdale, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred (Maynard) Joiner; two daughters, Linda Espinosa and Mary Joiner; and two sons, John and Joseph Joiner.
No service or visitation will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, 44004. Envelopes are available at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, which is handling the arrangements.
