Harriet B. Bly
CONNEAUT - Harriet B. Bly, 82, formerly of West Main Road in Conneaut, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the Inn-Conneaut Health Center.
She was born May 6, 1920, in Albion, Pa., the daughter of Keith and Margaret (Luce) Hayes, and spent most of her life in the Conneaut area.
She worked for Nielsen's Wall Paper and Paint Store and the former Astatic Corp.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Ashtabula.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Anderson of Ashtabula.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John L.; and a brother, Andrew Hayes.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Bishop Rodney Rodriguez, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Ashtabula, will officiate. Burial will be at Center Cemetery in Conneaut.
Calling hour at the funeral home is noon Monday until the time of service.

Donald W. Maurer
CONNEAUT - Donald W. Maurer, 79, of Locust Drive, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Inn-Conneaut Health Center, following a three-month illness.
He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Andover, the son of Arthur and Eleanor (Baker) Maurer.
A Conneaut resident for the past 50 years, he retired in 1992 from Bailey (Transplastics) Transportation Products after 15 years. He also was employed at various automobile dealerships as parts and service manager in the Conneaut and Erie, Pa., areas before joining Bailey's.
He enjoyed collecting clocks, small cars, and was extremely talented working with his hands making and repairing all types of items.
Mr. Maurer was an active member of the Conneaut First Assembly of God and served on the church board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Jean (Bashioum), whom he married May 26, 1945; a son, David of Conneaut; a daughter, Joi Cunningham of Strongsville; four grandchildren, Chip, Matt, Angela, and Becca; a great-granddaughter, Hannah; two sisters, Dorothy Phelps of Jefferson and Eleanor Huston of Monroe Township; and three brothers, Richard of Ashtabula, Charles of Kelloggsville and Milton of Kingsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Jack D. Woods of First Assembly of God and his nephew, the Rev. Jeff Maurer of Family Fellowship of Conneaut, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours are from 1 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the First Assembly of God, 389 W. Main Road, Conneaut. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Irene Hlavtur
CONNEAUT - Irene Hlavtur, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at the Inn-Conneaut Nursing Home.
She was born May 6, 1912, in Rankin, Pa., to Stephen and Anna (Nagy) Kovacs. She had been an area resident 25 years.
Mrs. Hlavtur was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, helped with the quilting club and cancer dressings, and was a member of the Circle One group.
She was self-employed, working in the family confectionery.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Sharon Hlavtur, granddaughter Kimberly and grandson Jason, all of Kingsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew; son Joseph and two infant children; sisters Mary, Betty and Elizabeth; and step-brothers Daniel, Steve, Joe and William Lessa.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula, officiated by the Rev. David L. Hofer. Burial is in Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today at Potti Lakeside Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Opal H. Schlaich
LARGO, Fla. - Opal H. Schlaich, 92, Largo, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Tandem Health Care of Safety Harbor.
She was born in Cambridge Springs, Pa., moving to Ashtabula. She lived in Ashtabula from 1971 until 1981, when she moved to Florida.
Mrs. Schlaich retired from Astatic Corp., in Conneaut after working there many years.
She was a member of the Super Sixties and was a Protestant. She enjoyed reading and Bingo.
Survivors include a son, Chuck of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a brother, Don Hicks of Vero Beach, Fla.; a sister, Thelma Bushnell of Butler, Pa.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1982 and son, Edward L. in 1997.

John Simon
CONNEAUT - John Simon, 86, formerly of Baldwin Road, Conneaut, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at the inn-Conneaut Health Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1914, in Conneaut, the son of Alex and Elizabeth (Kanocz) Simon, and had made his home in Conneaut all his life.
He sailed the Great Lakes, was employed by the former Nickel Plate Railroad, and was a commercial fisherman.
Mr. Simon enjoyed gardening and especially loved puttering around the house.
Survivors include a niece, Margaret Hathy of Conneaut; and four nephews, John Simon of Jefferson, and Ken, Howard and Edward Simon, all of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Berta and Elizabeth Hathy; two brothers, Alex and Elmer Simon; and an infant brother.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Center Cemetery in Conneaut. The Rev. Dave Miller of the Lakeview United Methodist Church will officiate.
It is the request of the deceased there be no calling hours.
The Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

James M. Kilfoil
CONNEAUT - James M. Kilfoil, 65, of Mill Street, Conneaut, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at inn-Conneaut Health Center.
He was born July 22, 1936, in Erie, the son of James and Julia (Prizinsky) Kilfoil, and had been a Conneaut resident for most of his life.
A graduate of Conneaut High School, Mr. Kilfoil worked for 15 years as a DJ for WWOW, Conneaut's former country music station.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Pearl (Emerson) Kilfoil, whom he married June 6, 1986; two step-children, Bonnie Kay Levantry of Greenville, Pa., and Garner Leroy Lasher of Polk City, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his mother; and two sisters, Kathleen DiPofi of Conneaut and LaBelle, Fla., and Nela Haverdill of Painesville.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Greenlawn Memory Gardens, 3137 U.S. 20, North Kingsville. The Rev. Raymond J. Thomas, Pastor of St., Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Churches in Conneaut, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Duke DiPofi, Youth Pastor of Fellowship Bible Church and nephew of Mr. Kilfoil. Burial will follow the service.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Ducro funeral Services and crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.
