Ethel M. Drennen
CONNEAUT - Ethel M. "Mitzi" Drennen, 84, of Conneaut, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Villa at the Lake in Conneaut.
She was born Aug. 15, 1918 in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of John and Blanche (Nye) McConnell.
She married Bert C. Drennen on Sweetest Day, Oct. 18, 1941 in Hubbard.
Mrs. Drennen had been a Conneaut resident since 1955 and was a well-known real estate agent, who worked for many local brokers and received many awards for sales achievements.
She was a member of the National and State Association of Realtors and the Ashtabula County Board of Realtors.
Mrs. Drennen was a member of the United Church of Christ where she served many years on boards and committees.
She was also a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Conneaut Chamber of Commerce, and the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts.
Mrs. Drennen served as president of the Rowe Middle School PTA during the early 1960s, when the communities of Conneaut and Lakeville and their separate school systems merged.
She loved her large extended family and enjoyed raising pets and playing bridge.
Mrs. Drennen also enjoyed music, dancing and participated in many of the musical productions that the former MacDowell Music Club and Conneaut Rotary Club formerly co-sponsored.
Survivors include two sons, Bert C. and Keith A., both of Conneaut; her daughter, Pamela R. Knight of Westfield, Ind.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Schock, Keith A. Drennen Jr., J.R. Knight, Patrick Knight, and Caitlin Drennen; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Adam Schock and Kayla Drennen; and two sisters, Hazel Ferguson of Hubbard and Ruth Rising of Cortland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; two brothers, Hugh and John McConnell; and sisters, Elma Davis, Ester Donahue, Gladys Williams, Martha Kay, Henrietta Morris and Pearl Stafford.
Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Walter Coy, pastor of United Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will be in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Community Center for the Arts or the United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Leo J. Elmerick
LADY LAKE, FLA.- Leo J. "Jerry" Elmerick, 77, formerly of Ashtabula, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002 in Lady Lake, Fla.
He was born in Randolf, Ohio.
Mr. Emerick worked for General Tire Chemical Division in Ashtabula for 10 years. He enjoyed sailing with his wife and children. He organized the Dave Baily Combo and in 1966. He also played in country clubs on St. Simeon and Jeckel islands for 16 years.
Emerick was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Emerick was also a member of the National Chemical Society, Marine Corps and League 3rd Marine Division Chapter. He received his captain's license in 1981 in Key West, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor G. Elmerick, of Lady Lake, Fla.; one son, Leo J. Elmerick; six daughters, Ardythe Rankin, Carolyn Given, Kathleen Rogers, Collen Reiheld, Frances Merritt, Christin Michem; one brother, Bernard Elmerick; on sister, Mary Jayne Alward; 25 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Sept. 30, at Florida National Cemetery.

Elma A. Kantola
CONNEAUT - Elma A. Kantola, 90, formerly of Point Drive, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at Harrington Care Home where she had been a resident the past three years.
She was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Conneaut, to Victor and Amanda (Luoma) Hauta. She was a Conneaut resident most of her life and was a 1930 Conneaut High School graduate.
Mrs. Kantola served various local families as a housekeeper for many years and enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching.
Survivors include sister Iris Makynen of Girard, Pa. and several nieces and nephews, including her primary caregiver Carolyn Kinnear of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Aino "Ralph" Law, second husband William Kantola, and sisters Elsie Getz and Ingrid Sinisalo.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, officiated by the Rev. David Miller of Lakeview United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service in Center Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Roberta M. Sterling
CONNEAUT - Roberta Mae Sterling, 84, of Conneaut, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut.
Born Feb. 26, 1917, in Conneaut, she was a daughter of Robert and Jessie Mae (Eddy) Snow and was a lifelong area resident.
She attended Rowe High School and later became a housewife. She worked at the former Astatic Corp. for three years.
She was a member of the Family Fellowship Church, A Four Square Gospel Church, in Conneaut.
Mrs. Sterling enjoyed crocheting for her family and friends, playing dice and card games and watching the birds and squirrels outside her house. She also was an avid garage saler.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Naykki of Conneaut and Harlene Gill of Houston, Texas; five sisters. Nancy Bartlett and Wilma Roberts of Florida, Mary Sikora and Betty Dixon of Conneaut and Jean Bean of Tampa, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger C., in1999; her parents; four brothers. Robert Snow and Willis, Stanley, and Charles Bartlett and a sister, Dorothy McKinley.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut, with Rev. Jeff Maurer of Family Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 5-8 p.m at the Raisian Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.

Delila L. Kokko
CONNEAUT - Delila L. Kokko, 89, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital.
A longtime resident of Conneaut, Mrs. Kokko was born July 10, 1911, in Murdo, S.D., a daughter of William C. and L. Pearl (Williams) Hynes.
Mrs. Kokko was a homemaker.
She was an active member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Missionary Society, the Ladies Aid, the IHN Class, and was a former Sunday School superintendent. Mrs. Kokko was also a member of the Rebekahs, the Moose Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Survivors include a niece, Val Jean Gray of Lake Monroe, Fla.; a great-niece, Tiffany L. Brown of Ashtabula; and two great-nieces, Amidty L. Dragar of Ashtabula and Corrina-Cecelia Kovacic of Conneaut. Also surviving is her godchild, Joyce Mayberry of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin; and two sisters, Genevieve Sheldon and Billie Violet Johnston.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today in Glenwood Cemetery in Conneaut. The Rev. David Miller of Lakeview United Methodist Church will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Memorial Fund of Lakeview United Methodist Church or to the Conneaut Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at he Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.

Irene J. Lucas
CONNEAUT - Irene J. Lucas, 80, formerly of Parker Street, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at UHHS Brown Memorial Hospital, Conneaut.
Born June 21, 1920, in Conneaut, she was a daughter of Julian and Josephine (Dormetko) Perkoski and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a member of the Polish American Ladies Club and enjoyed her family, crocheting, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and growing flowers.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Ellingson and Sherrie Lucas of Conneaut; two sons, John J. and Paul G. of Conneaut; a sister, Helen Perkoski of Conneaut; six grandchildren, Dan and Mark Ellingson and Julie, John, James and Jeff Lucas; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond G. Lucas; and brothers Stanley, Walter, Edward and Bernard Perkoski.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Raymond Thomas, pastor of St. Mary's and St. Frances Cabrini churches officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Conneaut.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad or to Conneaut Fire Department, Station 1. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
