Services: FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 12:00 noon at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, Ohio (Route 44, 500 feet south of Chardon Square). Reverend Robert Gaston will officiate at services.
Visitation: VISITATION: Thursday, July 22, 2004, one hour prior to the service (11:00 am until 12 noon) at the funeral home.
Raymond A. Turner, 74, of Middlefield, Twp., Ohio passed away on July 19, 2004, at the Chardon Healthcare in Chardon, Ohio. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 22, 1929. For the majority of his life he was a Montville Township resident, moving to Middlefield Township in 2001. Mr. Turner was a general laborer and in his spare time an avid fan of the World Wrestling Federation: His favorite wrestler to watch was Stone Cold Steve Austin. He loved picnics and parties with his family and friends. Survivors are: Two sisters, Lena McGeary of Montville Twp., Ohio, and Vicki (Bill) Hopes of Orwell, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Almerin and Eva (nee: Funk) Turner and two brothers, Edward and Robert Turner. Burial will be at Montville Cemetery in Montville Township, Ohio following funeral services.

Pearl Ruth Fickes

Services: An Eastern Star Memorial Service for friends and family will be on Tuesday evening, September 7, at 8:30 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (On Rt. 44, 500' south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH
Visitation: Tuesday, 6-8:30 PM

Harry S. Shepherd, DDS
Born: October 15, 1916
Died: June 28, 2004
Services: A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 5 at 4:00 PM
Visitation: Monday, July 5, 1:00 to 3:00 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on St. Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon.
Dr. Shepherd graduated from Collinwood High School in Cleveland, class of 1933. He then received his B.A. Degree from Adelbert College of Western Reserve University in 1937. Upon graduation from Dental School in 1941, he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the honorary scholarship fraternity and received the Callahan Award for outstanding Senior, the Mills award in Prosthetics and the Mosby Award in Surgery. Dr. Shepherd joined the US Navy in 1942, serving as staff dentist with the US Marine Corps. At Parris Island, SC. In 1943, he was assigned to duty at the Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD and later was sent to duty on the U.S.S. Topeka (CL-67), the flagship of Cruiser Division 18, in the Pacific with Admiral Wm. Halsey’s Task Force 38. Returning to Cleveland at the close of World War II, Dr. Shepherd entered into private practice and also held the position of Asst. Professor of Anesthesia and Oral Surgery at Western Reserve Dental School for 11 years. As a musician, he began singing in the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, choir where he met his wife, Betsy. During the many years at Immanuel Church, Dr. Shepherd composed two choir cantatas and wrote and arranged many religious songs: for these and professional articles, he was a subject of biographical interest in “Who’s Who in Ohio” in 1974 and also The Marquis “Who’s Who in the Mid-West” in 1975. Dr. Shepherd was a 50+ year member of Lyndhurst Lodge #508, F.and A.M. (formerly Woodward Lodge) in Cleveland. He was a life member of the Northeast Ohio Dental Society, of the Ohio State Dental Association and of the American Dental Association. The chief interests in his life were his family, his faith and his music. He is survived by his wife, Betsy (Pugh) Shepherd of Munson Twp., daughter, Betsy (Jerry) Griffin of Munson Twp., sons, Harry S. “Skip” (Nancy) Shepherd, Jr. of Granville, Dr. Thomas J. (Paula) Shepherd of Burton, Richard F. (Ellen) Shepherd of Warren, PA., grandchildren, Harry S. “Shaun” Shepherd, III, Heather (David) Juker, Constance (Todd) Christensen, Kirk E. (Jackie) Shepherd, Christa (Thomas) O’Brien, Simon E. Shepherd, Dr. Jessica Shepherd, Justin (Theresa) Shepherd, Jennifer (Joseph) Werth, Jameson (Janessa) Shepherd, Joseph Shepherd, Jonathan Shepherd, Joshua Shepherd, Jacob Shepherd, Jeremiah Shepherd, Lindsay Griffin, Andrew “Drew” Griffin, and Cassandra “Casey” Griffin, great grandchildren, Brockston Juker, W. Dane Christensen, William J. O’Brien, Gabriel Jacob Werth and Adeline Ellen Werth, sister, Dorothy S. Morey of Lake Worth, FL. His parents Kirk Emerson and Florence (nee: Potter) Shepherd, sister, Edith S. Henck and grandson, Jason Griffin are deceased.

Robert Joseph “R.J.” Hawkins
Born: August 17, 1979
Died: July 23, 2004
Services: FUNERAL MASS: Thursday, July 29, 2004, at 10:00 am at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, OH 44065.
Visitation: Wednesday, July 28, 2004, from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, (St. Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square.)
He was a 1998 graduate of Berkshire High School and currently an Excavator for Sitework Developing Company. Susvivors include his parents Gerald and Mary Ann (nee: Silvernail) Hawkins of Burton Township, sisters Sarah and Victoria Hawkins, and Lisa Abbott. Maternal Grandmother Florence Silvernail of Auburn Twp., numerous aunts and uncles, 3 cousins Adam and Christopher Wilks and Stephanie Silvernail, niece Catherine Hawkins and girlfriend Sarah Peters of Hambden Twp.

Pearl K. Leleszi (nee: Kocsi)

Born: November 08, 1921
Died: December 11, 2004
Services: Wed., Dec. 15 at 11:00 AM at New Testament Baptist Church, 12199 Claridon Troy Road, Claridon Twp.
Visitation: Tuesday, Dec. 14 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (on St. Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon.
Mrs. Leleszi immigrated to the United States in 1951 after WWII. She and her husband both grew up in the same village, but he came to this country as a much younger man. They met again after many years and spent 47 years together. She took great pride in her home and family. She was an excellent cook, gardener and loved Hungarian Cookouts. The most important thing in her life was her daughter and son in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Leleszi was a member of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Walton Hills, OH. Survivors include her daughter Esther (George) White of Troy Twp., grandchildren George (Kristen) White of Aurora, Chrissy White (Jon) Platek of Aurora, and Jeremy White of Las Cruces, NM; great grandchildren Summer White and Christian Platek, sister Ellsie of Hungary, cousin Steve (Susan) Lorincz of Maple Hts.; many nieces and nephews in Hungary. Her husband John Leleszi, parents Steven and Priscilla Kocsi, sister Esther and brother Mike are all deceased.

Gale Eugene Hazen
Born: June 05, 1930
Died: December 10, 2004
Services: Monday, Dec. 13 at 10:00 AM at Fowler’s Mill Christian Church, 10755 Mayfield Road, Munson Twp.
Visitation: Sunday, Dec. 12, 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (on St Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square).
Mr. Hazen was the Owner/operator of Hazen Contracting, Munson Twp.His father started the business in 1927. He has worked with the family since he was a teen. Mr. Hazen was known for plowing snow and road work for Munson Township until 1979. He was a member of the Geauga County Fair Band and the Rube Band for more than 50 years. Mr. Hazen took great joy in music and playing his trumpet. He was an active lifelong member of the Fowler’s Mill Christian Church, where he shared his music each week with the Praise Team. Mr. Hazen and his parents played “Round” dances at local Granges, for many years. He was a member of the former Munson Grange and currently a 50 year member of the Hambden Grange. Mr. Hazen was a great historian, as his family was the forth family to settle in Munson Twp. In the early 1800’s. He was a very proud family man, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Susvivors include his wife Margaret (nee: Winchell) Hazen of Hambden Twp., children Sharon (Jim) Ilersich of Mesopotamia, Jeff (Karen) Hazen of Munson Twp., grandchildren Rebecca (Neil) Yost of Mesopotamia, Jessica (Tor) Eastlake of Mesopotamia, Samantha Ilersich of Mesopotamia, Jennifer (David) Fay of Munson Twp., Daniel Hazen of Munson Twp., and Jordan Hazen of Munson Twp., great grandchildren Nicholas and Zachary Fay, sisters Glenda Baker of Munson Twp. and Joanne Friel of Chardon, Many nieces and a nephew. His parents Howard L. and Hazel (Willey) Hazen are deceased. Donations are suggested to Fowler’s Mill Christian Church, 10755 Mayfield Road, Chardon 44024.

Ruth N. Baker

Died: 5/6/2003
Services will be held at: 1:00 PM at the Chardon Christian Fellowship, 401 S. Hambden St., Chardon, Friday, May 9.
Visitation times are: Thursday, May 8, 5-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Baker was a member of and arranged all of the floral arrangements at the Chardon Christian Fellowship in Chardon, OH She enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by her daughters: Judy (Charles) Nungesser of Eastlake, OH, Peggy L. Weber of Chardon, OH sons: Ken (Sara) Baker of Colebrook Twp., OH Don E. (Marge) Baker of Huntsburg Twp., OH Gary Lee (Dorothy) Baker of Rock Creek, OH 14 Grandchildren and 16 Great grandchildren Brother: Edger Nicholson of Bono, IN Mrs. Baker is pre deceased by her husband: CW Baker Parents: Harry J. and Grace (nee: Kelly) Nicholson 3 brothers and 4 sisters The family suggests donations to Chardon Christian Fellowship, 401 S.
