Janet Capps

Janet Sue Capps went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Aug. 14 after succumbing to breast cancer at her home in Shawnee.

Janet was born Dec. 6, 1950, in Tulsa, Okla.

She attended public schools in Tulsa and Tahlequah, Okla., graduating from Tahlequah High School in 1969. She received her B.S. in Math Education from Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, in 1972.

Janet met her husband Larry while attending NSU. They married in 1971 and had two children. Heather was born in 1973 and Larry II was born in 1980.

They made their homes for one year in Weleetka, Okla.; eight years in Bowlegs, Okla.; and for the past thirty-two years in Shawnee.

For seven years Janet taught math and other subjects at Seminole High School and Bowlegs High School.

From 1981 to 1999, she taught math at Shawnee Junior High and Shawnee High School, where she was math department chairman.

In 1999 Janet took a position at Gordon Cooper Technology Center, where she created the first accredited integrated-math curricula in tech centers in the state of Oklahoma.

She retired from GCTC in 2010 and for the past three years taught students working toward earning a GED at Shawnee Adult Learning Center.

Janet was inducted into the Gordon Cooper Hall of Fame in May of 2013.

Janet is survived by her husband, Larry; her son, Larry II and daughter-in-law, Kim of Newalla; her mother-in-law, Edna Capps of Tulsa; her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Capps of Bixby; her sister-in-law, Rosemarie Capps of Tulsa; her niece and nephew, Daphne and Charles Capps; her nephew and niece, Sean and Roseanna Nickaboine; her paternal uncle and aunt, Ronnie and Pat Smith of Tulsa; her maternal uncle, Cletus Hix; and many cousins and other relatives in the Hix and Smith families.

Janet is preceded in death by her daughter, Heather; her parents, Garland and Seletha Hix Smith; her father-in-law, Charles Capps;, and her nephew, Andrew Nickaboine.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.

Oran Cariker

Graveside services for Oran Ray Cariker, 91, of Duncan will be on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home and officiated by Larry Ensminger.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Oran Ray Cariker passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 in Duncan.

Oran was born on May 24, 1922 in Okemah, Okla. to Steve Cenie Cariker and Amensie Lota Cariker (Fisher).

He graduated from Wewoka High School in Wewoka, Okla.

He enlisted in the US Marines and fought in World War II reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant and saw action in Bismarck Archipelago, Northern Solomon Islands, and in the Marianas Islands.

After the war Oran married his wife, Geneva Pearl Ensminger in Yuma, Ariz. on Aug. 2, 1946.

He worked as a gang pusher for Mobil Oil for 38 years before retiring in February 1985.

Oran was a member of the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ in Duncan.

Oran is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Geneva Cariker; son, Freddie Paul Cariker, and his parents.

Those left to cherish Oran’s memory are his sons, Tom R. and his wife Jean Cariker of Carrollton, Tex., Mark and Linda Cariker of Duncan, Okla.; sister, Alene Conner of Coweta, Okla.; special sister in law, Gwen Ensminger Tilley of Wewoka; grandchildren, Lindsey Lauren and her husband Hunter Ross of Providence Village, Tex., Courtney Rae and her husband Christopher Lillie of McKinney, Tex., Thomas Alls of Duncan and Jesse Alls of Duncan, Victoria Powell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; great grandchildren, Tanner Mathew Ross, Preston Hunter Ross, and Caleb Ray Lillie.

The family asks that memorials be made in Oran’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kans. 66675.

Honorary pallbearer for Oran will be Roy Gunter.

Military honors will be provided by the Stephens County Honor Guard.

Manuel Carolina Jr.

Former Wewoka resident Manuel Carolina Jr. died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the age of 49 in Oklahoma City.

He was born Jan. 19, 1964 in Wewoka, Okla. to Manuel Carolina and Mae Frances Scobey Carolina.

He graduated from North East High School in Oklahoma City, Okla and then earned a Bachelors Degree teaching from University of New Mexico. He was a counselor at time of his death.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Jason Carolina.

He is survived by his children, Jeremy, Ryan, Delontaye, Justin, Manuel III, and Savannah; four grandchildren; five brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral service are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 13, 2013 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka.

Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Okla. under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Shavarea Carpenter

Shavarea Mikala "Shavy" Carpenter, 26 year-old former Seminole, Okla. resident died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was born Jan. 15, 1987 in Seminole, Okla. to parents Shereata Brane’ (Vigil) Carpenter and Michael Anthony Carpenter.

She worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

Survivors include one son, Alejandro Jesus Carpenter of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Graciella Carpenter of Oklahoma; her mother, Shereata B. Silva of Oklahoma City; her father, Michael A. Carpenter, Sr. of Wilburton, Okla.; four brothers, Frankie Warledo of Minnisota, Skylar Carpenter of Oklahoma City, Dalton Carpenter of Oklahoma City, Michael Carpenter, Jr. of Wilberton, Okla.; two sisters, Raeceata Vigil of Oklahoma City, and Penni Warledo of Oklahoma City.

A wake service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Pastor Sandy Harjo officiating the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

Rev. Bunny Carpitcher

Rev. Bunny Lewis Carpitcher died at Boyce Manor Nursing Home in Holdenville on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the age of 71.

He was born June 16, 1941, at Sasakwa, Okla. to Titus and Lona (Harjo) Carpitcher.

He entered the National Guard and served from 1960 to 1962.

He was married to Betty Harjo.

He traveled the U.S. for 15 years working as a sheetrocker, worked seven years for the Santa Fe Railroad and three years on the pipeline.

He became an ordained minister in 2003.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Titus and Lona Carpitcher; three sisters, Evelina, Zelda, and Eliza; and one brother, Andrew.

He is survived by his son, Lewis Carpitcher of Seminole; daughter, Juanita Williams of Wewoka; eleven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Alice Walters; and brother, Culley Carpitcher, both of Sasakwa.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 6, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa, with interment in the Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wake service will be held at the church on Wednesday evening, June 5, at 7:00 p.m.

Rev. Jimpsey Harjo is the officiating minister.

Pallbearers are Kenneth Williams, Tom Williams, Cody Carpitcher, Maurice Morgan, Thomas Harjo, Monte Carpitcher, Mayson Carpitcher, Joseph Roebuck, and Jesse Williams.

Services are under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville. www.fisherfh.net

Hunter Carr

Hunter Edward Carr, deceased son of Brylon Edward Carr and Stacey M. Williams passed away Jan. 11, 2013 in Houston, Tex.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Westwood Cemetery with Bro. Rickey Burton officiating.

Hunter is survived by his parents, Brylon and Stacey; parental grandparents are Gloria Alford- Carr of Spring, Tex. and Charles Ramond Carr of Earlsboro, Okla.; Maternal grandparents Jennifer Haynes of Castro Valley, CA and Michael Williams of Oakland, CA.; Many Aunts and Uncles and other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Hunter Carr

Mike Carr

Memorial services for Mike Carr, age 47, will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kelley Memorial Chapel in Eufaula.

He died Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

He was a tech at Eufaula Hospital.

Hunn Black and Merritt Funeral Home and Crematory in Eufaula are in charge of the services.

Gene Carter

Gene Carter, 87, of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Shawnee, Okla.

He was born July 11, 1926 to Silas and Josie (Johnson) Carter in Durham, Ark.

Gene lived in Fayetteville, Ark.; Shawnee and Wewoka, before moving to Konawa, Okla. where he has resided since.

He attended school in Elkins, Ark.

Gene married Esther Pauline Barnett on July 14, 1945 in Shawnee, Okla.

He began a drill bit business in Wewoka and was owner/operator of Carter Bit Service.

Gene loved to go fishing.

He was a very kind and gentle man and was a very good provider for his family.

Gene was a wonderful husband and father and loved his family dearly.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Josie Carter; son, Alford Carter; daughter, Vonda Gene Trimble; two brothers, Carlous Carter and Lloyd Carter.

Gene is survived by his wife, Esther Carter, of the home; daughter, Delena Blackwood and husband, Albert of Moore; two sons, Donald Gene Carter and wife, Lana of Stevensville, Mont. and Timothy Ray Carter, of Ft. Smith, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eloise George, Veda Hadley, Berline White and Cloe Dean Light; and numerous extended family, friends and fishing buddies.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 and continue through time of service.

Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mitch Williams and Reverend Steve Lorance officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
