Louise Sampson

Wewoka resident Louise Jean Sampson died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 in Holdenville, at the age of 83.

She was born Jan. 6, 1930 in Bowlegs to Jonah and Mollie Harjo Thomas.

She was a member of the Tusekia Harjo Band and tribal member of Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Fred Sampson; sisters, Cora Wesley and Wanda Lena; and one brother, Charlie Thomas.

Survivors include one sister, Lottie Coody.

Wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Jimsey Harjo officiating.

The body will be taken to Sand Creek Eufaula at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 29, 2013 for a 2:00 p.m. funeral service with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Jimsey Harjo officiating and burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Bobby Sanders

Bobby Dean Sanders, 79, a resident of Konawa, Okla. died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5th at Vamoosa Cemetery, East of Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Steve Lowrance will officiate.

Pallbearers are Shane Gurley, Christi Gurley, Jeremy Jones, Lindsay Jones, Mark Barnett, and Cody Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers are Lovell Gant, Buck Buchanan, Kenny Sanders, Clinton Sanders, Denny Sanders, and Danny Barnett.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1933 in Birchtree, Mo. to Emmanuel Sanders and Annabelle (Williams) Sanders.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War, and worked as an Independent Insurance Agent.

He married Barbara La Rue Poague on Jan. 22, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sanders of the home; one daughter, Bellanca Barnett of Konawa; two sisters, Opal Laird of Cambria, Calif., and Mary Ivans of Artesia, N.M.; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmanuel and Annabelle Sanders; two brothers, Bill and Jim Sanders; and one sister, Donita Counts.

Ray Sanders

Sasakwa resident Ray Sanders died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 in Holdenville, Okla.

He was born Oct. 7, 1932 in Utica, Okla. to Foy and Ruth (Robinson) Sanders.

He was a graduate of Sasakwa High School and attended East Central for two years.

He married Betty Frump Jan. 16, 1956.

He entered the US Air Force Sept. 10, 1956 at Walker Air Force Base and was discharged Feb. 28, 1973 after serving in Viet Nam and Korea as radar operator earning the title of T/Sgt.

After returning from the military he operated a gas station in Sasakwa.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sanders of the home; three children, Phyllis Kay Hein of Ellijay, Ga., Stephen Ray Sanders of Tulsa, Okla., Frank Galen Sanders of Sasakwa; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Michael Schall

Michael David Schall, of Spring, Tex., entered into rest on Monday April 29, 2013 at the age of 65.

Mike was born on Nov. 20, 1947 to Fritz and Ramona (Shults) Schall in Woodward, Okla.

Mike moved frequently as a child due to his father's work with Mobil Oil, living in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Mike graduated as salutatorian from Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, Tex. in 1966.

He received a BS in Petroleum Engineering with honors from Texas Tech University in 1970.

Mike served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve before joining Atlantic Richfield Company in 1970.

Mike's career with ARCO involved engineering and managerial assignments in Louisiana, Texas and Alaska.

Mike retired from ARCO and joined Occidental Petroleum Company in 1994. Mike's work with Oxy took him to assignments in Qatar and Russia.

While in Russia, Mike married Galina Terskova on April 30, 1998.

Mike joined Halliburton Energy in 1998 and worked in Indonesia.

Mike suffered a tragic accident in 2000 that left him as a quadriplegic. Mike returned to Texas, met the challenges of his disability, and led an active life.

Mike especially enjoyed spending time with his family, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech Red Raiders, and being involved with the Russian community in Houston.

Mike is survived by his mother, Ramona Schall; his wife, Galina; their son, Valery Dreer and his wife Tatiana; his grandchildren, Milana and Mark Dreer; his sister, Karla Colle and her husband Tom and daughter Beth; and his aunt, Elsie Schall Morris of Seminole, Okla.

A Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday May 2, 2013 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to the St Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church, 24 Tidwell Rd., Houston, Texas 77022-1906, or the charity of your choice.

Betty Schmitz

Betty Ann Schmitz passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at the Holdenville General Hospital.

She was born on July 20, 1945 to Floyd and Ada (Hoges) Conley in New Port, Ark.

Betty liked fishing, camping and singing.

She sang with the Messengers Gospel Group for many years. She was also given the opportunity to sing as a back-up singer for artist like Charlie Pride, Buck Owens and Roy Clark, and was a back-up singer throughout the 1970's.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ada (Hoges) Conley; and a grandson, Chris Hillbolt.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Schmitz; her children, Sherry Hillbolt of Holdenville, and Warren Dean Hillbolt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brother, Bill Conley of Cement, Okla., and sisters, Patricia Jacquez of Aztec, N.M., Mary Williams of Cement, Okla. and Wanda Lopez of Farmington, N.M.

Funeral services for Betty will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Holdenville, with Pastor Rick Madron officiating. Interment will be at the Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville.

Funeral services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville.

Thomas Scott

Thomas "Tom" Tiger Scott, 51 year-old Seminole, Okla. resident passed from this life Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 at his home in Seminole.

Tom was born July 22, 1962 in Riverside, Calif. to parents Rosser Paul Scott and Juanita (Tiger) Scott.

Tom lived in Riverside, Calif. until his parents moved the family to Seminole in 1970.

Tom attended Seminole High School, graduating in 1980.

He went on to further his education at Seminole State College where he earned his Associate Degree in 1980 and in 1988 he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.

Tom along with his siblings owned and operated Billy Boy Barbeque and Paul’s Place Steak House in Shawnee, Okla. and the newly opened S & L Diner in Seminole, Okla.

He was a member of the Oklahoma Restaurant Association.

Tom had also sold real estate in the 1980’s for Donna Berry and continued to dabble a few more times here and there with selling.

He was also a Certified Financial Planner.

Tom was a true believer in God and tried to live his life by example.

Not only was he a boss and friend to his employees, he was also a great listening ear and advisor when needed.

Tom was a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. He was part of the Ceyvha Band and Bear Clan, and he sat on the Seminole Nation Department of Commerce Board.

He was a longtime member of the Cheyraha Presbyterian Church in Seminole where he was an Elder and Clerk of Session.

Tom married Sonia Gunter on July 23, 1988 in Seminole, Okla.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Sonia (Gunter) Scott of the home in Seminole; one son, Colby Tiger Scott and a daughter, Katie Elizabeth Scott of Seminole; his mother, Juanita Tiger Scott of Seminole; three brothers and sister-in-laws, Rossi and Donna Scott of Seminole, Dana and Angela Scott and Bailey and Debbie Scott all of Shawnee, Okla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Dovie and Rodney May of Shawnee; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herb and Liz Gunter of Seminole; sister-in-law and husband Carrie and Kyle Nault of Deer Park, Tex.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, his special friends Neil and Michele Lindenbaum, Kathy White, Dayna Grandstaff, Nancy Wyneth, and his restaurant family.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Rosser Paul Scott; by his paternal grandparents, Rosser and Jettie Scott. Tom is also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anderson and Renoals Tiger and by aunts, Ruth Ellen Tiger, Tinnie Tiger and by one uncle, Bill Tiger.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church located at 910 Wrangler Blvd. in Seminole, with Rev. Curt Gruel officiating. Burial will follow at the Tiger Family Cemetery east of Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Mike Yip, Charlie Yip, Colby Scott, Rodney May, Dana Scott, Rossi Scott and Bailey Scott.

Honorary bearers will be Neil Lindebaum, Ted Tiger, Staff of S & L Diner, Billy Boy BBQ, and Paul’s Place Steak House.

The family has designated that memorial donations be made to Interfaith Social Ministries, P.O. Box 1602, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868, in memory of Tom Scott.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
