Mimi Massad

Mimi Maria Massad died Monday, Jan 9, 2012 at her home in Holdenville.

She was born May 30, 1926 in Bologna, Italy to John and Maria Neri.

She married Colonel George H. Massad.

They started Massad’s Vogue and a family of five and made their home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Maria Neri; her husband, Col. George H. Massad, and five brothers of France and Italy.

She is survived by one brother, Pachi Neri of Corsica, France and one sister Rosetta Neri of Paris, France, her five children: Georgia Massad-Herdlitchka, Linda Massad, Jeanette Anderson, George Massad Jr., and John Massad, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Anderson, Justin Anderson, Eric Massad, Broderic Massad, Michael Massad, Michael Milligan, and Nick Cassavetes.

Honorary Pallbearers: Walter Bishop, Jerry Hoover, Terry Swazye, Chuck Spreyer, Bill Robinson, Ty Hignite, and Josh Rollins.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan 13, 2012 at the Barnard Memorial Methodist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville.

Billy Massay

Billy J. Massay died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Memorial Hospital at Mt. Holly, NJ at the age of 82.

He was a retired US Navy Chief Airman Survival Equipment Man after having served for over 20 years.

He is survived by wife, Jean A.; two sons, Guy Massay and Jimmy Massay; one daughter, Susan Brenner; five grandchildren; three brothers, John Massay, Bob Massay and Jimmy Massay.

Funeral services with full US Navy Honors will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Brig. Gen. WM.C.Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery Chapel.

Funeral arrangements by the Goes – Scolieri Funeral Home, 212 Levitt Pkwy, Willingboro, NJ.

Due to cemetery floral restrictions, Memorial donations are requested to be made to the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, Browns Mills, NJ in his memory.

Glenda Massay

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Glenda Sue (White) Massay, 75, who died March 31, 2012 after a long illness will be held Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Coone officiating.

Mrs. Massay was born in Seminole at Harbor Hospital on Aug. 4, 1937 to Glen A. and Kate (Petross) White.

She graduated from Seminole High School in 1955 and attended Seminole State College and East Central University in Ada, where she completed her associate degree.

She married her High School sweetheart Bob L. Massay on Aug. 31, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Seminole.

Mrs. Massay lived all her life in Seminole where she worked as a Service Representative for Southwestern Bell, Office Manager for Glen’s Plumbing, Director of the Student Union at Seminole Junior College, Head Teller and Assistant Cahier for First State Bank and retired as the Director for St. Crispin’s Episcopal Conference Center after serving there for twenty-two years.

Massay, one of the first women ordained in the First Presbyterian Church of Seminole where she served as Ruling Elder, Clerk of Session, Treasurer, and sang in the choir for many years. She also sang in the Selectones, a women’s choir in the 1970’s.

She was Treasurer and Board member for the Tri-City Substance Abuse Center from 1987 to present and served on the Executive Committee of the Seminole High School Alumni Association.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Her hobbies included sewing, arts and crafts, genealogy, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Paul D. Trammell and great grandson, Trenton A. Godwin.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Massay; sons, Dan and Scott Massay of Seminole; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Ron Deatherage of Seminole; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jeannie Massay of Edmond; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Vicky White and nephews, Brent and Brian White of Seminole; brothers-in-law, Billy and Jean Massay and family of New Jersey; John and Dee Massay and family of Grand Lake; Jim and Susan Massay and family of Tulsa; grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, and Tanner Trammell; Heather and John Gordon, Rachel Massay; and special friend of the family Don Gill.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Maple Grove cemetery in Seminole.

The casket will be open to the public prior to the service only.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Inc., in Seminole.

Verna Matthews

Verna Mae Matthews, 89, longtime Seminole resident died Wednesday, Feb 29, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was born April 23, 1922 in Eldorado, Kansas to George Oliver and Grace (Bracken) Franklin.

Verna moved to Seminole from McAlester, Oklahoma 43 years ago.

She worked as a teacher’s aide and also a records analyst for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole, a member of the Seminole Hospital Ladies Auxiliary "The Pink Ladies", she was also a counselor for Blue Birds.

Her son, Ronald Hawkins of Seminole; a stepson Steve Matthews of Fairfax, Virginia, two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Sullivan of Seminole, and Gina and Rodney Pace of Seminole, survive Verna. A sister, Veva Simmons of Seminole, and a brother Vernon Franklin of Bethany, also survive her. Her grandchildren Ronica Rhude of Platt City, Missouri, Marsha Hawkins of McKinney, Texas, Bill Hawkins of Aubrey, Texas, Austin Thomas of Stillwater, Brendan Pace and Lauren Pace of Seminole, and four great grandchildren also survive her.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents George and Grace Franklin, husband Alex Hawkins, husband Russell Troop, husband W.F. Matthews, Jr. son-in-law Bob Sullivan, grandson Robert Lee "Bobby" Hawkins and four sisters Violet Morris, Virginia Hack, Vivian Carpenter and baby sister Ethel Franklin and a brother Donald Franklin.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Seminole with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Pastors Marvin Kehl and Mark Senter will officiate at the service.

Casket bearers will be Austin Thomas, Brendan Pace, Bill Hawkins, Coby Arron, Terry Morris and Ron Franklin.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Durwood Maybee

Durwood M. Maybee, age 81, resident of Seminole, died Thursday, February 16, 2012.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at Little Cemetery Chapel in Seminole County. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Rev. Bill Chesser will officiate.

Durwood was born Feb. 19, 1930 in Barryton, Michigan to Maitland and Mary (Foster) Maybee.

He married Josie Francis Romines on June 5, 1948 in Vernon, Texas.

He is survived by wife, Josie Francis (Romines) Maybee of the home, two sons, David of Fowlerville, Michigan, Bruce Maybee of Muskegon, Michigan; one daughter, Pamela Callihan of Foley, Alabama; one sister, Donna Howell of Michigan; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Mike, Virgil, Dale Maybee, and one infant brother.

Josie Maybee

Josie Frances Maybee, 79, Seminole resident died Monday, July 2, 2012 in Seminole.

She was born Feb. 16, 1933 in Snyder, Oklahoma to Willie Craig and Madiline (Murry) Romines.

She was a homemaker.

She married Durwood Maybee on June 5, 1948 in Vernon, Texas.

She is survived by two sons, David Maybee of Fowlerville, Michigan, Bruce Maybee of Muskegon, Michigan; one daughter, Pamela Callihan of Foley, Alabama and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Durwood Maybee and a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Little Cemetery Chapel inside Little Cemetery with Rev. Bill Chesser officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.

Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole is in charge of arrangements.

Birdie McAnelly

Birdie Fay McAnelly, 88, of Edmond died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.

She was born Jan. 30, 1924 in Seminole to Albert Wilson Minick and Jessie Jewel Vulgamore Minick.

She married Albert Roy McAnelly who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Tawanna Jean (T.J.) Radle and a granddaughter.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at Little Cemetery in Little, Seminole County.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 29, 2012 at Life Church (4600 E. 2nd Street, Edmond, OK 73034).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dog Ears, 4200 E. Britton Rd. OKC, OK 73131.

John McClure

John Stephen "Steve" McClure, age 68 and former longtime resident of Konawa died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at his home in Tulsa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at the Church of Christ of Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Burial will follow at Violet Springs Cemetery. Richard Winters will officiate.

Pallbearers are nephews, Jeff McClure, Joshua McClure, Zachary McClure, Niles Johnson, Beau Johnson, Kyle Johnson, and Keaton Marriott.

Honorary pallbearers are Danny Khoury, Barry Streetman, Mark Stoup, Aaron Isaacs, Van Chew, and Roger Harrod.

He was born July 11, 1944 in Shawnee to J. C. "Sandy" McClure and Celia Ruth (Enlow) McClure.

He was a 1962 Konawa High School graduate. He graduated from East Central University of Ada with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from November 1968 to November 1970.

He operated the family business, McClure Oil Company and McClures Convenience Store for forty-two years.

He married Sherrill (Muggy) Patterson on Dec. 16, 2011 in Tulsa.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrill McClure of the home; his mother, Ruth McClure of Konawa; one son, Brett Patterson of Tulsa; one daughter, Jill Taylor of Tulsa; one brother, Roger McClure of Konawa; two sisters, Sandra Johnson of Konawa, and Rebecca Marriott of Norman; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sandy McClure.
