Donna Smith

Donna Smith, Seminole resident, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Quality Hospice Center in Midwest City after being diagnosed with West Nile Virus.

Donna was born Jan. 21, 1931 to Donald and Dorothy Davisson in Ardmore.

She graduated from Seminole High School in 1948 and attended Christian University in Springfield, MO.

She married Paul C. Smith on Feb. 14, 1950.

Her greatest passion was raising and showing Basenji dogs, although she loved all animals.

She was president of the Indian Nation Basenji Club in Arizona while living there.

She is survived by two sons, Paul C. Smith Jr. of Seattle, WA and Scott Smith of Seminole and one brother, Bill Davisson of Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Dorothy Davisson; sister, Peggy Sisson and husband, Paul C. Smith.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

Lena Smith

Lena Mae (Eaton) Smith, 94 year-old, Bella Vista, Arkansas resident died Friday, March 30, 2012 in Springdale, Arkansas.

She was born Jan. 4, 1918 in Sperry, to parents Charles Eaton and Lena Mae (Prichard) Eaton.

Lena graduated from Sperry High School.

During her time in Seminole she was a beautician who worked from her home located at 1909 Phelps Drive.

Lena married her first husband Edward G. Ridgeway and he preceded her in death in 1947. She later married her second husband Robert E. Smith and he preceded her in death in 1989. One son, Ted Ridgeway who died in 1988, also precedes her in death.

Survivors include one son, Don Ridgeway of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Swearingen Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Don Gill officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Don Ridgeway, Scott Ridgeway, Rick Withrow, Brian Adams, Ted Tucker and Jerry McNally.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Lucy Kay Smith

Lucy Kay Smith, 61 years of age, entered Eternal life on Tuesday, March 27 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Lucy was born Nov. 13, 1950 in Seminole to George B. and Christine (Brown) Harjo.

She attended school at Varnum in Seminole.

She worked several years at Blue Bell, now called Wrangler until she left to become a full time homemaker.

Lucy was of the Methodist faith and was a member at Wewoka Methodist Church. She held several positions within the church. Lucy loved to sing church songs and was always asked to lead church songs. She supported and followed her husband, James, who was a pastor at several different Methodist churches.

Lucy loved to cook traditional foods and was known for making Seminole patchwork and traditional clothing. She spoke her native language and spoke it fluently.

Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents, Siah Brown, Lucy Clark; paternal grandparents, Sena Larney and Samsochee B. Harjo; brothers, Sam B. Harjo, Wallace B. Harjo and Kimble Harjo.

She leaves behind husband of 40 years, James of the home; three children: son, Ryan W. Smith and companion Marcie Bell both of Okmulgee; daughter Shelia Smith and companion Brian Factor of Holdenville; son, J.B. Smith and wife Vanessa of Seminole; brothers, Mody B. Harjo of Denver, CO; Marsey B. Harjo of Seminole; Yogi B. Harjo of Del City; Willie B. Harjo of Okmulgee; sisters, Nancy Fixico of Seminole and Sharon Proctor of Okmulgee; granddaughters, Amanda and Emma Factor; grandsons, Noah Smith, Kyle and AJ Yargee; special niece, Louisa Proctor and companion Archie Simpson of Okmulgee and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; aunts, two aunts and one uncle.

Wake service will be held Friday, March 30, at Wewoka Methodist Church.

Traditional services will be held Saturday, March 31 at 1:30 p.m. at Wewoka Methodist Church with Joe Lowe and Scotty Harjo officiating. Her final resting place will be in Seminole at the B. Harjo family cemetery.

Marsha Smith

Marsha Smith of Seminole, departed this life Nov. 27, 2012.

She was born Feb. 25, 1950, in Denton, TX.

She married Jimmy Smith on Dec. 22, 1969.

She was a head custodian at the YMCA in Enid, later moved to Seminole and was a homemaker.

She was a member of El Shaddai Church in Seminole for many years.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Smith of the home; one sister, Phyills Franklin; one brother, Charles Daniels; two daughters, Patty and husband James Rowland of Seminole and Tracie Smith of Stillwater; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Little Cemetery chapel, Little, Oklahoma, with Pastor Dorma Allensworth officiating.

Trena Smithee

Trena Sue Smithee, 69, longtime Seminole resident went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at her home in Seminole.

Trena was born June 4, 1943 in Eufaula to Alfred Bus and Ida Marie (White) Montgomery.

Trena, married Kenneth Gene Smithee on May 15, 1959 in Eufaula.

She was a homemaker and mother of six.

She pastored the Gospel Lighthouse Church west of Seminole for over nine years. She was currently a member of the Temple of Praise Pentecostal Church of God in Seminole.

Trena lived in Seminole for over 50 years. She enjoyed visiting with and praying for the hospitalized and home bound, helping those in need even in her later years when she was barely able to do so.

She also enjoyed making flower arrangements in her spare time, giving them out to loved ones even at the memorial service after her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Smithee of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Welch of Purcell and Kelly Houck and her husband Joey of Washington, Oklahoma; four sons, Ronald Smithee and his wife Connie of Wichita Falls, Texas, Darrell Smithee and his wife Tammy of Ft. Gibson, Mark Smithee and his wife April of Choctaw and Mike Smithee of Seminole.

She is also survived by two brothers Jim Montgomery of Eufaula and Dr. Keith Montgomery of Tulsa; five sisters, Joyce Gawf of Eufuala, her twin-sister, Rena Blagrave of Midland, Texas, Kathy Hall, Marie Sellers, and Theresa Akers all of Eufaula along with fourteen grandchildren, Steven Smithee, Shawn Smithee, Jon Smithee, Cody Smithee, Blake Houck, Baily Smithee, Davin Smithee, Jeremiah Welch, Branden Welch, Jordan Welch, Kelsey Allspaugh, Shaina Smithee, Brie Smithee and Jenny Smithee and two great grandchildren Alec and Rihanna Welch.

Her parents and two brothers, Woodrow and Harold Montgomery, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at the Temple of Praise Pentecostal Church of God at 1100 N. University in Seminole.

Rev. Jeff Nance and Rev. Paul Gregg will officiate at the service with burial following at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Ronald Smithee, Darrell Smithee, Mark Smithee, Michael Smithee, Joey Houck and Brett Breedlove.

Honorary bearers will be Steven Smithee, Shawn Smithee, Jon Smithee, Cody Smithee, Blake Houck, Baily Smithee, Davin Smithee, Jeremiah Welch, Branden Welch and Alec Welch.

Funeral service under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Larry Snowden

Larry Edward Snowden, a longtime resident of Preston, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at the age of 58.

Larry was born on Jan. 8, 1954 to Lawrence and Nancy (Allan) Snowden in Shawnee.

He graduated from Strother High School in 1972 and graduated from Central State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Art.

Larry began working with Phillips Petroleum in Oklahoma City after college and transferred to Okmulgee in 1978.

On May 29, 1982, he married Pamela Ann Evans in Okmulgee and the two have made Preston their home since that time.

In 1984, their first child, Elizabeth was born, followed by their second child, Jeffery in 1986.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Elsie Allan and grandparents, Lewis and Dewey Snowden.

Survivors include his father and mother, Lawrence and Nancy Snowden of Strother; wife, Pamela Snowden of Preston; two children, Elizabeth Snowden and Jeffrey Snowden, both of Oklahoma City; his aunt, Nelda Skaggs of Forney, TX and numerous cousins and other relatives.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee with Brother Wade Harelson officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Little Cemetery near Seminole under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Pallbearers will be Mark Hudson, Kevin Chesser, Joe French, Kenneth Carpenter, Kenny Graham and Hank Williams.

William Snyder Sr.

William "Bob" Snyder, Sr. a long time Seminole resident died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 in Seminole at the age of 60.

He was born Jan. 22, 1952 in West Virginia to parents, William Okie and Myrtle Snyder.

He moved to Seminole in 1985 from New Jersey, he was a self employed automobile mechanic.

He is survived by one son, William Snyder, Jr. of Seminole and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Snyder; wife, Linda Snyder; two grandchildren and twelve siblings.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Little and Rev. Dorsey Nero officiating the service.

Burial will take place at Harjo Cemetery south of Wewoka.

He will be taken to 1130 University in Seminole for viewing until Saturday morning.

Casket bearers are Jimmy Harjo, Jr., Jimmy Harjo, Sr., Clifford Tanyan, Albert Tiger, Marty Haynes and Daniel Milisap.

Honorary bearers are Jayla Snyder, Lincoln Jones and William Snyder, Jr..

Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

William Sommerkamp

On Feb 15, 2012, Mr. William C. Sommerkamp, age 57 passed away in the Wewoka Healthcare Center.
