Leroy Stokes

Leroy Stokes, age 83 and resident of Konawa died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Golden Rule Senior Care Center in Shawnee.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.

Leroy was born Aug 16, 1928 in Asher to Tom Stokes and Velma (Moorer) Stokes.

He married Sharon Smith on Dec 21, 1973 in Asher.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1949 until 1953.

Leroy made levels as a toolmaker for McLinburgh and Duncan and retired in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Velma Stokes; his wife, Sharon Stokes, and two sisters.

Wayne Stokes

Wayne Douglas Stokes, 72, of Blanchard, died Oct. 29, 2012, in Norman.

The son of Carl Russell and Berniece Ann (Taylor) Stokes, he was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Konawa.

He earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree and a Master’s Degree in Pharmacology from OU.

Wayne married Donna Lou Harber on Sept. 19, 1957, in Okemah.

He was an independent oil producer and was a past officer of the Independent Petroleum Association of America and a member of the One Mile Energy Club.

Wayne served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and was past President of Seminole County Cattlemen’s Association.

He was also a member of the OU Alumni Association.

Wayne enjoyed traveling, deep sea fishing, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Stokes and Charlotte Bonin.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Stokes, of Blanchard; daughter, Cinthia Brooks and husband, Terry Brooks, of Blanchard; two grandchildren, Blair Ward and husband, Brody Ward, of Oklahoma City and Blaine Brooks of Blanchard; sisters, Jean Stokes Taylor and husband, John E. Taylor, of Pearland, Texas and Carlene Stokes Craddock of Moore; three nephews, Randy, Kevin, and Terry; six nieces, Lisa, Tonya, Tara, Sheri, Sheila, and Lori; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Blanchard with interment to follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.

Margaret Geraldine "Gerri" (Morris) Story
(June 29, 1937 - January 7, 2012)

Shawnee resident Margaret Geraldine "Gerri" (Morris) Story, 74, passed away Saturday, Jan 7, 2012 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 11, 2012 at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sparks and Rev. Chris Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church.

The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm to greet friends.

Gerri was born June 29, 1937 in Holdenville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Earl Morris and Floy (Washington) Morris.

She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1955 where she played softball and was All-State in basketball.

On May 21, 1955, she married Charles Story in Holdenville.

She spent much of her life as a homemaker but had worked at Seamproof Sewing, Bethel School cafeteria, and Baptist Hardware.

Gerri was a longtime member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church, and she loved watching basketball, especially when her family was involved. She also enjoyed going to the lake with family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Tom, Bill, and Jerry "Skeets" Morris, half brothers: Clarence, Jewel, Melvin, Marvin, and Lowell Morris

She is survived by her husband, Charles S. Story of the home; children: LaRhonda Holt and husband Gary of Elgin, Randy Story and wife Tammy of Shawnee, Rita Story-Schell and husband Mark of Seminole; grandchildren, Trent Story and wife Stefanie, Jentry Holt, Garrett Story, Beckham Schell; great-grandson, Rowdy Story; two brothers, Earl Morris and wife Alice of Shawnee, Jeff Morris and wife Becky of Shawnee; one sister, Josie Cravens and husband James of Shawnee and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Michael Stubbs

Michael Robert Stubbs, Seminole county resident died Monday, May 14, 2012 at Seminole.

He was born Nov. 21, 1966 at Oklahoma City to Sue Kathleen O’Brian.

He moved to Seminole in 1993 from Oklahoma City and was formerly employed at Sigma.

He married Beth (Myrick) Stubbs in Oklahoma City on Sept. 3, 1993.

He is survived by his adopted parents, Dick and Kristina Stubbs of Oklahoma City; Beth Stubbs of Seminole; two daughters, Brittany Huddleston of Broken Arrow, Kendra Myrick Stubbs of Seminole; father and mother-in-law, Deairl and Annette Myrick of Seminole.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Martin Stubbs.

A Memorial service is planed for a later date.

Cremation service is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Frank Summers

Frank Lee Summers of Collinsville passed from this life on Wednesday, June 27, at his home surrounded by his family.

Frank was born to Linda Lee (Wetzel) and George Clyde Summers on Feb. 28, 1932 in Mounds, Oklahoma.

Frank was married to and is survived by his wife, Jaunita Hensley Summers of 62 years before his passing.

He is also survived by sons, Bill Summers and wife Angela of Broken Arrow and Joe Summers of Lafayette, Louisiana; grandchildren, Ted Summers and wife Chelsea of Tulsa and Caroline Summers of Tulsa; sister and brother in law, Dona and Carl Beauchamp of Burneyville, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Frank was employed by Loffland Brothers Drilling Company of Tulsa for 44 years in South America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East as the Director of Drilling Operations.

His hobbies were golfing (shooting generally in the 80’s), fishing (his favorite: peacock bass on the Orinoco River, Colombia), gardening and entertaining friends and family with cookouts at his home in Collinsville.

Frank’s caring demeanor, business ethics and dry sense of humor were greatly admired by his friends, family and co-workers alike.

In his later years, he particularly enjoyed sharing the news and current events with his "Breakfast Club" friends every morning at Karen’s in Collinsville.

He was a father figure to many, and feelings about Frank are probably best expressed by what men in the Cusiana, Colombia drilling field conveyed about him:

"an example of life for all of us; we express our gratitude for giving us your knowledge, and teaching us about the good things of life."

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Wewoka Cemetery.

Visitation is all day Friday, June 29 until 5:00 p.m. at Moore’s Owasso, 918-272-3200.

Anthony Tanyan

Anthony Tanyan, 58, died, Monday, March 26, 2012, in Shawnee.

Anthony was born Oct. 16, 1952 in Seminole, to Benjamin and Grace Coody Tanyan.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. Bill Hobia officiating.

There will be a wake service 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Interment will follow at Tanyan Cemetery, northeast of Seminole.

Anthony graduated from Varnum High School.

His father, mother, his daughter, Maria Grace, sister Carolyn Tanyan Talamasey, and half-brother, Chris Tanyan, precede him in death.

He is survived by Teresa Larney; sons, Jacob, Sterling and Skyland Tanyan all of Konawa; daughter, Valerie Tanyan of Konawa, and a step-daughter Amanda Larney of Konawa; brothers, Curtis Lee Tanyan Harjo and Ronald Tanyan of Seminole and two half-brothers Jimmy Lee Harjo and Clifton Tanyan of Seminole;, two sisters, Ruby Tanyan and Dorothy Davis both of Seminole and twelve grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Kyle Porter, Larry Harjo, Jr., Tyler Harjo, Dakota Harjo, Garrett Meeley, Dominic, Stevie Creek and Brian Harjo.

Honorary bearers will be Ron Tanyan, Tom Harjo, Thomas Billie Jr. and Tim Larney.

Ruby Tanyan

Ruby Sue Tanyan, age 62, longtime Seminole resident died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 2, 1950 in Tahlequah to parents, Benjamin Tanyan and Lorene (Coody) Tiger.

Following High School Ruby worked as a hairdresser and homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Danetta Elaoufir of Oklahoma City; one son, Benjamin Warledo of Holdenville; five brothers, Jimmy Harjo, Curtis Harjo, Simon Harjo, Albert Tiger and Clifton Tanyan all of Seminole; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn Talamasey, and two brothers, Anthony Tanyan and Chris Tanyan.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Alton Taylor Jr.

Alton Jewel ‘Jr.’ Taylor Jr. died at his home in Holdenville on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the age of 83 years.

He was born on Oct. 23, 1929, in Wewoka to A. J. ‘Doc’ Taylor Sr and Era (Westerman) Taylor.

He attended schools in Wewoka and New Lima.

He joined the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War era in the early 1950s.

He worked for many years in the oil field. He worked for Fort Worth Bolt and Tool.

He married Joyce Choate in Holdenville on April 5, 1986.

He worked as the local operator for the Beaver Express freight company in Holdenville.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents, Doc and Era Taylor; one son, Larry Taylor; two brothers, Jesse Taylor, and Billy Ray Taylor.

He is survived by three children, Brenda Taylor of Springtown, Texas, Mike Taylor of Rendon, Texas, and Rick Taylor of Rendon, Texas; two stepchildren, Jimmy Choate and Cheryl Stinnett, both of Holdenville; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley McAdoo of Holdenville, and Jonny Faye Clark of Eufaula.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of God in Holdenville. He was laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Jon Ewers was the officiating minister.

Pallbearers were Eddie Taylor, Wayne Taylor, Mike Taylor, Rick Taylor, Ryan Taylor, and Jonathan Taylor.

Services were under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
