Naomi Bryan

Funeral services for Seminole resident Naomi Allen Bryan, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Historic Strothers Chapel in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Rev. David Karges will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bryan passed away on Tuesday May 7, 2002 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 84.

She was born to Ambrose Allen Dickey and Louisa Jane (Brock) Dickey on Aug. 23, 1917 in Branch, Ark.

Bryan moved to Seminole 65 years ago from Branch.

She married Tillman Pendergrass "Mutt" Bryan on Jan. 18, 1936 in Franklin County, Ark.

Bryan was a homemaker and worked as a legal secretary from 1975 to 1998 for Gipson, Johnston and McMains Law Firm.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for years where she and her husband were members of the wedding ring class.

Bryan was a Pink Lady for several years at the Seminole Municipal Hospital, and secretary of the Women’s Wesley Group for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman, on June 26, 1974; her parents; and two sisters, Leola Gipson and Edra Dill.

Bryan is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dickey and Mary Bryan, Seminole; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Sam Pool, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Keli Pool Roper and her husband Jeff, Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Pool, Houston, Texas, and Jeremy, Eric, and Kari Bryan, all of Seminole; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Ryan Roper, Houston, Texas; one nephew and his wife, Patti, and their children Fred and Lisa Gipson, Lisa and Greg Barnard, and Elizabeth and Dusty Base; one niece, Linda Sharpe, and her children, Cal Sharpe, John Sharpe, and Susan and Jeff Downs; niece Norma Moore and her husband Phillip; and nine great-great nieces and nephews.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the restoration of Historic Strothers Chapel at Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel Association, P.O. Box 1062, Seminole, 74818-1062.

Naomi Bryan

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Naomi Bryan are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Historic Strothers Chapel at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bryan died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home.

Further information is pending with the funeral home.

Gennell Bryant

Funeral services for Seminole resident Gennell Lynn (Edgell) Bryant, were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Revs. Kenneth L. Edgell, Chris Meek, and Roger Brewer officiated the services.

Burial followed at the Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bryant died Friday, May 3, 2002 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 36.

She was born to Daryl Wayne Edgell and Susie Esther (Griffith) Edgell on Dec. 11, 1965 in Ft. Smith, Ark.

Bryant lived most of her life in Seminole, having moved here from Wyoming.

She was a 1984 graduate of Bowlegs High School.

She married Donald (Donnie) Taft Bryant on Dec. 23, 1992 at the First Church of God in Seminole.

Bryant worked at a Nursing home in Wewoka, and was currently employed at Richards Quick Stop and Custom Coating, both in Seminole.

She was a member of the Church of Nazarene where she was a teacher and drove the church bus.

Bryant was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marcus and Clara Edgell, and Theodore and Alice Griffith; her father, Daryl Edgell; and her great-niece, Shalinda Swanson Bloom.

She is survived by her mother, Susie Esther Edgell, Seminole; her husband, Donald (Donnie) Taft Bryant, Seminole; and five brothers, Theodore Edgell, Walter Wayne Edgell, Bobby Ray Edgell, Jerry Jackson Edgell, all of Seminole, and Kenneth Lee Edgell, Oklahoma City.

Pallbearers are Tony Edgell, Marcus Edgell II, Bruce Edgell, Christopher Yancey, Kenny Waterman, and Aaron Edgell.

Honorary bearers are Kent Dawson, Jim Blakely, Greg Bloom, and Richard Cline.

LeDon Buckley Jr.

Funeral services for Wewoka resident LeDon Buckley, Jr., are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sand Creek Church in Wetumka.

A wake service will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka.

Rev. J. B. Fish will officiate the funeral services.

Interment will follow on Saturday at the Sand Creek Church Cemetery, under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Buckley died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 45.

He was born to LeDon Buckley and Mary Jane Fish Buckley in Holdenville on Jan. 16, 1957.

Buckley’s family moved to California for a number of years before returning to Oklahoma in 1990.

He married Dinah Dionne on June 15, 1981 in California.

Buckley was a self-employed roofer and worked in the housing industry prior to retiring due to health reasons.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Buckley is survived by his wife, Dinah Dionne Buckley; two sons, David Buckley and Kenneth Buckley; one daughter, Monique Buckley; three sisters, Sandra Buckley, Oklahoma City, and Mary Ronnell Buckley and LaDonna Buckley, both of Seminole; and two brothers, Kenneth Buckley, Wetumka and Larry Buckley, Seminole.

Pallbearers are Marsey Scott, Ronnie Whitetree, Sampson Fish, James Scott, Jeremy Fish, John Fish, Ben Buckley and Justin Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are J.R. Fields and Bunny Powell.

Dorothy Bumgardner

Graveside funeral services for Wewoka resident Dorothy Mae Bristow Bumgardner are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Rev. Barney Gibson is set to officiate.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bumgardner died Thursday, July 4, 2002 at Unity Health North in Shawnee at the age of 77.

She had been a Wewoka resident since moving there from Tecumseh in 1981.

She was born Dec. 5, 1924 in Sparks to Clarence and Mattie (Durbin) Hughes.

Bumgardner married Joshua Barney Bristow. He preceded her in death in July of 1970.

She then married Ralph Bumgardner. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1989.

She was a retired nurse from Parkview Nursing Home in Shawnee.

Bumgardner was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Bob Bristow in 1991; one sister, Thelma Turner; and three grandchildren, Debra Bristow in 1997, Debra Leann Bristow in 2000, and Joshua Barney Bristow.

She is survived by two sons, Eugene Bristow of Wewoka and Ray Bristow of Seminole; one stepson, Johnny Stephens of Seminole; one daughter, Linda Nelson Quinalty of Seminole; one stepdaughter, Becky Carlson of Seminole; one brother, Lloyd Hughes of Seminole; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers are Johnny Stephens, Ray Bristow, Steve Carlson, Oartie Anderson, Billie Bradshaw, and Jesse Gibioney.

Thomas Burgin

Funeral services for Seminole native Thomas Leonard Burgin were held today at the United Pentecostal Church in Okemah.

Rev. David Shatwell officiated.

Interment followed at Schoolton Cemetery near Okemah under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Burgin died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 in Seminole at the age of 49.

He was born Jan. 24, 1953 in Seminole to Francis Thomas and Betty June Burgin.

He had been a resident of Seminole since 1988 and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Okemah.

Burgin had been employed by Hodges Trucking in Oklahoma City.

He attended South East High School in Oklahoma City.

He was active in the jail ministry before he had to travel long distances.

Burgin was preceded in death by his father, Francis Thomas Burgin.

He is survived by his mother; his wife, Mary Lou (Starr) Burgin of Okemah; two sons, Thomas Burgin Jr. of San Diego, Calif., and Terrence Burgin of Lexington, Ky. one stepson, Rodney Starr of Seminole; two sisters, Angila Dibble of Oklahoma City and Melissa Jean Honsinger of Tuskahoma; and three grandchildren.

Church members will the active pallbearers.

Stella ‘Pumpkin’ Bush

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Stella "Pumpkin" Bush are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee.

Rev. Carl Whitfield is set to officiate.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bush died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 79.

She was born Oct. 19, 1922 in Shawnee to Wesley William and Bernice (Nelson) Dougless.

She married Rex McDonald Bush on Feb. 6, 1946 in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Bush was a homemaker and a member of the Seminole Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Aug. 5, 1999; two sisters and one daughter.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Paula Davis Dommert and Tracy Davis Melton; five great-grandchildren; and one special nephew, W.E. Woodward of Miami.
