Darla Phillips

Funeral services for Seminole resident, Darla Gail (Turner) Phillips are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the Immanuel Fellowship Church (formerly Tri-City Christian Center).

Rev. Danny Fisher will officiate.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Phillips died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at the age of 49 in Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.

She was born July 15, 1954, in Ada to George Newton Turner and Eveline Jean (Minick) Ware.

She married Larry W. Phillips on March 5, 1974 in Seminole.

She was a homemaker and also ran the "Heavenly Snow" snow-cone stand in front of Nichols.

Phillips was a member of the Immanuel Fellowship Church and was a very generous and loving person who prided her relationship with Christ and caring for those in need.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Jessie Jewell Sing; father, George Newton Turner; step father, George Ware; step mother, Mary Turner; brother-in-law, Donnie Walker; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wayne and Ethel Phillips.

Phillips is survived by her husband, Larry W. Phillips of the home; mother, Eveline Jean (Minick) Ware of Seminole; son Larry W. "Sonny" Phillips Jr. of Seminole and fiancée, Tori Hutton and her children, Ashley, Jakey, Yosha and MaKayla; son, John Lee Calvin "John Boy" Phillips of Seminole; daughters, Jessica Marie Turner of Byng and Krystal Lynnette Lee Phillips of the home; children she took under her wing, Chris and Sheila Haney of Earlsboro; ex-daughter-in-law, Kathlene "Katie" Carbitcher Phillips of Seminole; special black son, Russell Gibson of Seminole; brothers, George Newton Turner Jr., Kenneth Dale Turner and Doug Turner, all of Ada; sisters, Diane Walker of Kansas City, Mo. and Charolette Trembley of Scott City, Kan.; sister-in-law, Donna Postman and husband, Rick; ex-brother-in-law, Chris Anson; grandchildren Donovan Phillips, Kelsey Phillips, Jasmine Phillips, all from Seminole, Marty Price and Latisha Price; from Byng, and Isreal Haney, Ashley Barnett, Amber and Amanda Haney, all from Earlsboro, as well as a host of other family and friends.

Casket bearers will be Ronnie Phillips, Chris Haney, Chris Anson Sr., Chris Anson Jr., Rick Postman and Jayson Turner.

Honorary bearers will be Mickey Shaw, Andy Lockhart and Jim Hutton.

Dorothy Phillips

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident, Dorothy Philips were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5 at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Richard Winters officiating.

Interment followed at the Konawa Cemetery under the direction of the Pickard-Swearing Funeral Home of Konawa.

Phillips died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at the age of 58 at her home in Konawa.

She was born July 7, 1945, in Seminole to Lonnie Otto Tracy and Ocie (Holbert) Tracy.

She married Hubert N. Phillips Jr. on Aug. 4, 1962, in Konawa.

She was a longtime Konawa resident.

She worked as a seamstress for several years at Michael’s Casuals.

She later worked at Sooner State Bank in Konawa for 15 years, having retired in 2003.

Phillips was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Hubert Phillips Jr. of Konawa; one son, Dr. Russell Phillips of Keller, Texas; and one daughter, Shawna DePrater of Ada.

Serving as casket bearers were Van Ches, Steve McClure, Tim Coffey, Greg Vandiver, Reggie Medcalf and Lynn Patterson.

Laura Phillips

Funeral services for Seminole County resident, Laura V. Phillips, of Wewoka are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12 at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Jones of St. Joseph Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka.

Phillips died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the age of 73 at Holdenville General Hospital.

She was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Boley to Phillip and Flowerlene Johnson.

She was a 1953 graduate of Boley High School.

She met and married Willie Phillips in 1967.

Phillips was a member of the St. Joseph Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunday school, past missionary president and past church secretary.

She was retired from Elmwood Manor Nursing Home where she worked for 20 years as a nurse’s aide.

Her husband and her parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Rosetta O’Guinn of Shawnee, Versie May White of Kansas City, Mo., Elmaria Harris of Spencer, Carol of Oklahoma City and Margaret Talton of Spencer; one brother, Bill Phillips of Midwest City; and three grandchildren.

Ted Phillips

Producer Publisher Dies Sunday in Corpus Christi Hospital

Ted Phillips, publisher of The Seminole Producer and longtime Seminole civic leader, died suddenly Sunday morning in south Texas at the age of 71.

Phillips, who had suffered heart problems for a number of years, died at Bay Area Medical Center, Corpus Christi.

He had undergone a cardiac technique on his heart a couple of weeks earlier in Oklahoma City, and had not recuperated quickly from the procedure.

Phillips, his wife, Nancy, and grandson, Cody, traveled to Corpus Christi on Thursday, to the condo where the Phillipses wintered.

When he arrived, Phillips became ill and was taken to the emergency room.

In the intensive care unit, he was diagnosed with an ulcer, aggravated by the blood-thinning medication from the heart surgery.

Although the ulcer was repaired, and Phillips was scheduled to leave the intensive care unit, he collapsed and died early Sunday.

Phillips had made his lifelong career in the newspaper field.

He was active on many boards and commissions in Seminole, the county and at the state level.

Phillips was well-known to state and federal legislators where he lobbied for help for Seminole County issues.

He was active in the Oklahoma Press Association, where he won honors for his work at The Producer.

He was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Norman to Harve Milt and Ruby (Helms) Phillips, who preceded him in death.

He served in the US Army in Korea, where he worked for Stars and Stripes newspaper.

He retired from The Producer in 1994, but maintained his publisher status with frequent editorial columns.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church.

Don Gill and Rev. Bob Hammons will officiate.

Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

The family has designated the Seminole Public Library Trust, 424 N. Main in Seminole, or the Oklahoma newspaper Foundation, in care of the Oklahoma Press Association, 3601 N. Lincoln, Oklahoma City, 73105, as appropriate for memorials.

Deloris ‘Poppy’ Pieper

Deloris "Poppy" Pieper, 71, of Midland, and formerly of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at her residence.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Chapel in Midland with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating. Reverend James Otterness will assist.

Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral home, 3800 N. Big Springs St.

She was born Jan. 21, 1933 in Seminole to Jake and Jewel (Walton) Harris.

She was raised and attended school in Seminole.

Poppy and Travis Pieper were married on March 24, 1979 in Odessa, Texas.

She and Travis loved to travel.

Poppy was a former Vice-President at First Banker’s Trust in Midland for 22 years.

She was a member of Midland Gem and Mineral Society and a member of the Midland Community Theater.

She had also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Poppy was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Geneva Woolery; and a brother, Glen Harris.

Surviving Poppy is her husband, Travis, of Midland; two sons, Joe Aytia of Midland and Don and his wife Janet Aytia of Lead, South Dakota; two step-daughters, Pamela and husband Ron Kimbrell, Karen and husband Doug Hildebrand; and a step-son, Paul and his wife Joyce Pieper, all of Odessa; eight step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by a sister, Lavisa Gehring of Toledo, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, most especially Debbie, Micah, Kevin and Skyla and her close friend, Ann Hathaway.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of Midland, 911 W. Texas, Midland, Texas 79701.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.

Destiny Lenae Pierce

Services for great-granddaughter of Seminole resident Earnest Stillwell Sr. were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Johnnie Mae Foxx officiating.

Pierce died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City shortly after being born.

She was the daughter of Leonard Payton "Lee" Pierce II and Shantay Lynette (Dennis) Pierce.

Pierce is survived by her parents of the home; brother, JaiVonn Lee Pierce of Glendale, Ariz.; maternal grandparents, Carlisa Dennis and Carneilus Shields both of Princess Anne, Md.; paternal grandparents, Janie Faye Haywood and Lewis Haywood both of Moore; maternal great-grandparent, Barbra Dennis of Princess Anne, Md.; and paternal great-grandparents, Earnest Stillwell Sr. of Seminole and Georganna Small of Oakland, Calif.

Lawrence "Jack" Piersall

Graveside services for Seminole resident, Lawrence B. "Jack" Piersall Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Hardtner Cemetery in Hardtner, Kan.

Friends may call from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home in Anthony, Kan.

Donations may be made to the Jack Piersall Memorial Fund to help defray expenses.

Piersall died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the age of 59 at Seminole.

He was born Aug. 22, 1944, to Lawrence B. and Catherine (Shew) Piersall.

He worked in the oil fields.

Piersall married Carole A. Merrywell on Feb. 4. 1992.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence B. Piersall and one brother-in-law, Larry Pratt.

He is survived by his wife, Carole of the home; three sons, Colby Bernell Piersall of Seminole, Justin David Piersall, and Michael Hugh Hobbs of Tulsa; one daughter, Kelly Ann Pippin of Seminole; three brothers, Gary Piersall of Wichita, Kan., Kelly Shew of West Virginia and Tracey Shew of Washington State; his mother, Catherine Shew of Washington State; stepmother, Nadine Piersall of Anthony, Kan. 9 grandchildren, a sister, Barbara Pratt of Anthony, Kan..
