Eunice Stanfill

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Eunice Marie Stanfill, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Stanfill, age 79, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the VA Regional Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 27, 1952 in Russellville, Arkansas to Andrew Jackson "Tobe" Wiley and Minnie Mae Hall.

She served her country in the Women Army Corp of the United States Army, she was a private.

On May 25, 1946 she married John William Stanfill in New Madrid County, Mo.

Stanfill moved to Seminole from California in February of 1963. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Seminole.

Her parents, her husband (Jan. 21, 2003) and eight brothers and sisters, preceded her in death.

Surviving are five sons, John William Stanfill, Jr. of Idaho, James Stanfill of Shawnee, Roger Stanfill of Arkansas, Randall Stanfill of Arkansas and David Stanfill of Woodward; five daughters, Joyce Benn, Kathi Shaw, Pamela Stanfill and Gina Marshall, all of Seminole, and Ramona Stanfill of Idaho; one brother, J.E. Wiley of Los Banos, Calif., and 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be, Shane Stanfill, Daniel Stanfill, Joe Don Stanfill, Jeremiah Stanfill, Joseph Foutz, Chris Bryant, Craig Nunnelley and Zac Northrip. Honorary Bearers will be Jack Stanfill, Dax Benn and Kylar Benn.

Kay Stanford

Funeral services for Kay L. Stanford will be 11 a.m. Friday at Akasvmkv Church of Wewoka with Rev. Dan Factor and Rev. Bo Gibbs officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Kay passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 in Oklahoma City. She was born Oct. 26, 1951 in Wetumka to Tilford A. and Bonnie Jewel (Byrd) Redding.

She graduated from New Lima School and married Dwight Lively. Two children were born to this marriage. She was a homemaker and graduated from Charles Academy of Hair Design.

Kay was a member of Allen Free Will Baptist Church, Weleetka and love singing, cooking, taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchild.

She was a person that put everyone before herself.

Preceding her in death are her parents Tilford A. Redding and Bonnie June Byrd, David Henderson Redding, Christine Wolfe, Charles Leon Redding, Cecil Thomas Redding, Barbara Ann Jones, and friend Freeland Doyle Stanford.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristee and Brett Seeley, Wetumka; her son, Dwight Lively, Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter, Kambree Layne Seeley, Wetumka; brother, Murrell and Johnnie Redding of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law, Ann Redding of Wewoka; sister, Jimmie Stafford, Holdenville; friend, Bob Conacher and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mae Lee Stargell

Funeral services for longtime Earlsboro resident Mae Lee (Jackson) Stargell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Temple of Praise and deliverance in Shawnee with Pastor, Sister Odell Hardeman officiating.

Interment is to follow at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Stargell, 89, of Shawnee died Thursday, July 19, 2007 in Shawnee. She was born June 22, 1918 in Shawnee to Porter "P.J." and Clora (Jones) Jackson.

On Feb. 26, 1938 she married Joe Stargell and she was a former member of the New Hope Baptist Church of Earlsboro, where she served as financial secretary for many years.

She then became a member of the Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance of Shawnee.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Ray, Randell and Eric Stargell, all of Shawnee; five daughters, Shirley Lowfton of Shawnee, Jo Ann Hunter and Wanda Hinex, both of Midwest City, Loretta Dejear of Oklahoma City and Britney Stargell of the home; foster daughter, Beatrice Anderson of Midwest City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Starkey

Graveside services for Konawa resident Mary Lorene Bussey Starley were held at 11 a.m. today at the Konawa Cemetery in Konawa.

Services were under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home Chapel.

Mary Starkey, 84 was born on Nov. 16, 1922 in Wolf, Okla., to George and Viola Bussey.

On Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007 this kind and loving lady with a strong sprit and heart, took her final travel home to everlasting peace.

Her husband of 56 yrs., Arvle; her parents; and her son Don warmly welcomed her.

Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Konawa. She enjoyed gardening, playing the organ, sewing and crocheting. Her first love was her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Starkey of Moore; two sons, Ken Starkey and wife Kathy of Kingston, Okla., and Ray Starkey and wife Donna of Byng, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Letha Wesmorland and husband Tommy of Scipio, Okla.; numerous, nieces, nephews; and special friends, Harvey and Deborah McElroy and Joanne Lucas of Konawa.

Mattie Starnes

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Mattie Odessa Starnes are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Mattie Starnes, age 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 at her residence in Shawnee. She was born Aug. 11, 1919 in Cleveland, Ark., to the late Johnson and Mary (Wallace) Moore.

She met and married Nathan Bruner and to this marriage two sons were born, Melvin and R.D. Bruner. Melvin preceded her in death.

Later she married Gentry Starnes Sr., and to this marriage 13 children were born.

Ivory, Lottie, Jerry and Jerry Allen Starnes; two grandsons, Leondro and Marvin Starnes; and brothers and sisters, Otis, James, Jonathan, Roosevelt, Clarence and Jessie Moore, also preceded her in death.

Her survivors include: children, Ola Blakely of Shawnee, R.D. Bruner, Imogene Bruner, Gentry Starnes Jr., Ollie Payne, Henry Starnes, Mattie Ruth Booker, Theresa Starnes, Johnny Starnes and Keith Starnes; sisters, Bernice Dunn of Oakland, Calif., and Ernestine Walls of Fresno, Calif.; sons, Marvin Moore of Oklahoma City and Calvin Moore of Fresno, Calif.

Joe Harold Sterling

Joe Harold Sterling, 86, after a happy Thanksgiving day spent with his family, passed away on Nov. 22, 2007.

After many years of suffering with Parkinson’s disease he was ready for a long rest.

Joe was born in Carthage, Missouri, on Aug. 3, 1921, the son of Hugh Harold and Irene Josephine (Bastin) Sterling.

The family settled in Seminole, Okla., where Joe graduated from high school and attended junior college before graduating from Oklahoma University.

He was a great debater both in high school and college and won many prizes and honors.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a second lieutenant in the Sea Bees in Hawaii.

After WWII Joe was employed in Ohio where he met and married Margaret, "Dolly" Dingle on June 20, 1948.

During his career he lived in Buffalo, N.Y. and Chicago, Ill., before resettling in Ohio and starting his own business as a manufacturer’s sales representative.

Joe is survived by wife, Dolly Sterling; daughter, Anne and her husband, Peter, of Kuper, Scotland; son, Mark and wife Sally of Wadsworth, Ohio; son, Jay of Wadsworth, Ohio; grandchildren: Adam of England, Laura of Wales, Alex and Sarah of Wadsworth, Ohio; sister, Maxine Mitchell of Seminole; and niece, Jolynn Darland Lowry of San Antonio, Texas.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 29, 2007 at Wadsworth United Methodist Church.

Inurnment at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will take place on Jan. 22, 2008.

Edd Stevenson Jr

Services for Edd Stevenson Jr., 81, Ada, are 2 p.m. Monday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Revs. Larry Acton and Joe Howry officiating.

Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.

Mr. Stevenson died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 at a local hospital. He was born July 15, 1926 at Jesse, Okla., to Edd Adali and Jessie Ellen Oglesby Stevenson. He attended Gerty Schools.

He married Billye Jean Brown on May 1, 1947 at Holdenville. She died on Oct. 16, 1986 in Guymon, Okla. He later married Janice Gannon, of Calumet, Okla., on Sept. 12, 1988 at Ada.

Mr. Stevenson was drafted by the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen and sent to Japan, serving as a Combat Infantryman and a Technician Repairman. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 17, 1946 with many decorations and citations.

Some of the honors he received are the Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan.

He was employed for many years with Trend Oil and Gas Construction Company as a construction welder, and helped construct some of the largest gasoline plants in America. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Calumet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Mildred Whisenhunt Thomas, of Owasso three infant brothers, James Milton, Forrest Edd, and Leonard Hugh; and by four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Survivors include, his wife, Janice, of the home; two daughters, Bettye Jean Cooper and her husband, Ray, of Eufaula, and Mary Ellen Hinkle and her husband, Roy, of Ada; a son, Stanley Edward "Butch" Stevenson, and his wife, Janet, of Pauls Valley; one step-daughter, Kim Gratner, and her husband, Chuck, of Calumet; grandsons, Stephen and Aaron Cooper, Charles and Todd Carpenter, and Jesse Stevenson; granddaughters, Katie Stevenson, of Pauls Valley and Kara Jean Moon, of Norman; a brother, Jimmy R. Stevenson, and his wife, Demonell, of Ada; a sister, Katherine S. Howry and her husband Jack, of Ada; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bearers will be Charles Carpenter, Stephen Cooper, Todd Carpenter, Aaron Cooper, Jesse Stevenson and Sam Whisenhunt.

Michael Stevenson

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Michael Edward Stevenson are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Wewoka, with Rev. Stephen T. Ivey of Tulsa officiating.

Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.

Stevenson, 56, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 in Oklahoma City. He was born June 23, 1951 in Wewoka to Wilbur and Wattyerene Stevenson.

He attended Douglas Grade School and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1969. While in high school he lettered in football, basketball and track; as well as was a member of the school chorus.

Stevenson attended Okmulgee Technical College where he received an Associate’s degree in textile care.

On June 13, 1969 he married Lanetta Bruner and moved to Oklahoma City. He was employed by Bee Fresh Cleaners in Wewoka and five years at Magic Cleaners in Oklahoma City.

He also worked at Oklahoma Publishing in Oklahoma City for five years.

In 1978 he returned to Wewoka with his family and enlisted in the Air National Guard of Wewoka. Stevenson also worked for the City of Wewoka.

Stevenson accepted Christ at an early age when he was united with Jones Temple C.M.E. Church.

Surviving are his parents, Wilbur and Wattyerene Stevenson of Wewoka; his wife, Lanetta Stevenson of oKlahoma City; sons, Michael Stevenson Jr. of Piedmont, Oklah., Damien and Kylen Bryant Stevenson of Oklahoma City; daughters, Kyla Stevenson of Oklahoma City; sisters, Carol Watson of Wewoka; brother, Wilbur Jerome Stevenson of Tulsa; and three grandchildren.

Wattyerene Stevenson

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Ruth Wattyerene Stevenson are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka, with E.G. Bert of St. Stephen’s Baptist Church to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.

Stevenson, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1927 in Muskogee, Okla., to Agnes Leona (Gude) and Wattie Talerifo Thomas.

She graduated from Manual Training High School in 1943. Stevenson received her Bachelor’s degree in Music from Langston University in 1947; her Graduate studies were completed at the University of Iowa; and her Master of Education degree was awarded by the University of Oklahoma, Norman.

In 1947 she married Wilbur Stevenson and they have been together for 61 years.

Her teaching career began in 1950 in Wetumka and was followed by one year at the State School for Negro Boys in Boley. She then spent 34 years at Wewoka Public Schools before retiring in 1987.

Stevenson also taught private piano lessons. Her most memorable experience as a teacher was as a member of the experimental integrated 1st grade team in an open classroom setting at Wewoka Elementary School.

She is a member of Wewoka Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; Wewoka Planning Commission; Wewoka Cemeteries Association; Oklahoma Federation of Colored Women’s Club and Oklahoma Retired Educators.

Stevenson is a former member of O.E.A., N.E.A., and the American Association of University Women. She is also a member of Seminole County Retired Educators, where she received the VIM Award in 2002.

The Douglass Alumni Class of 1952 honored Stevenson as a "Link to the Village" at the 2002 reunion in July of 2002. In addition, she received a certificate of recognition from the Federated Girls and Boys Club, Wewoka.

She and her husband are members of Jones Temple C.M.E. Church, where she played the piano for many years before failing health.

Her parents; one son, Michael E. Stevenson; one great-grandchild and two brothers, Ralph L. Thomas and Claude Thomas, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband, Wilbur, of the home; daughter, Carol Watson of Wewoka; son, Wilbur Jerome Stevenson of Tulsa; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
