Doug Cook

Douglas Allen Cook, 49 of Holdenville passed away peacefully in his home on May 12, 2016 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was born on April 14, 1967 in Holdenville to James and Dorothy (Ball) Cook. Doug graduated from Holdenville High School in 1985.

Doug married the love of his life, Susan Donnell Hearn on July 12, 1989.

He work in EMS and Law Enforcement for several years and became the Director for the Hughes County EMS Department. Later he would begin his law enforcement career at the Holdenville Police Department. He worked for the Wetumka and Calvin Police Departments as well as currently for the Holdenville Police Department.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home, daughter Savannah of Osborne, Kansas; parents James and Dorothy Cook of Holdenville, brother Arthur Cook of Holdenville and sister Ramona Edwards of Alabama, his nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Holdenville. Bro. John Roberts will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will be his EMS and Law Enforcement family including Jere Lee Smith, Brandon McCoy, Doug Sipes, O. C. Powell, David Cook, and Michael Leuking.

Honorary bearers will be Corey Epperson, Boady Marshall, Monte Phillips, Bob Edwards, Bo Babb, Mike Dodd, Randall Crossland, Arthur Cook, Brian Iker and Daniel McMahan.

Interment will follow at the Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

Gladys Donaldson

Gladys (Chaddick) Donaldson, former Wewoka resident, passed away Monday, March 28th, 2016 in Muskogee, OK.

Service pending with Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

James Dobbins

James Keith Dobbins, 64, Saint Louis, Oklahoma resident, died, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at his home. James was born May 21, 1951 in Seminole, Oklahoma to William Richard Dobbins and Beloysa Carrie (Ingram) Dobbins.

James was a retired diesel mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental Company. He attended OSU Okmulgee Tech School in Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he received his diesel mechanic training.

James married Penny Lynn (Renfro) Dobbins on June 2, 1973 in Maud, Oklahoma.

James is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Penny Lynn Dobbins of the home in Saint Louis, Oklahoma; one son Michael Dobbins of Maud, Oklahoma, a daughter Carrie Allen of Saint Louis, Oklahoma, two brothers Steve Dobbins of Allen, Oklahoma and Russell Dobbins of Choctaw, Oklahoma; two sisters Judith Akerman of Konawa, Oklahoma and Linda Dunn of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date.

Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.

Dallas Johnson

Dallas Johnson, 69 year old lifelong Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Seminole Hospital. He was born July 13, 1946 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Luther Fox Johnson and Claudia Estella (Hall) Johnson.

Dallas grew up in the Plant 13 area, south east of Seminole. He attended Seminole Public Schools. Dallas then worked several years for the City of Seminole in the sanitation department.

On September 11, 1981 he married Betty Jane Hill in Seminole, Oklahoma at the Assembly of God Church. Sadly, she preceded him in death.

Dallas was affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.

Dallas is survived by two brothers, Eugene Johnson of Alabama, Denver Johnson of Joplin, Missouri and by one sister, Linda Hailey of Holdenville, Oklahoma. Dallas is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and dear friends.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Claudia Johnson and by his wife, Betty Jane Johnson.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Vausy Cumpton

Vausy Vernell (Coots) Carr Cumpton, 61 year old lifelong Bowlegs resident passed from this life on Friday, January 8, 2016 in Wewoka, Oklahoma where she was currently residing at Elmwood Manor. She was born March 3, 1953 in Norman, Oklahoma to parents Vernon Coots and Helen Marie Coots.

Vausy married Bill Cumpton, he preceded her in death.

Vausy was a homemaker and was also a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Survivors include two sons, John Carr and Daniel Carr both of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, two daughters, Terri Walker of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Lacy Cumpton of Wewoka, Oklahoma, one sister Marilyn Robertson of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends.

Vausy was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Coots, by her father, Vernon Coots, and by her husband, Bill Cumpton. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Debbie, and by two daughters, Dianna and Kristal.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Craig Creech

Ronald "Craig" Creech, 69 year old former Seminole County resident, and current Collinsville, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 2, 2016 at his home in Collinsville. He was born August 8, 1946 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to parents, Edgar L. Creech and Alice Vernell (Harris) Creech.

After graduating from high school Craig went on to earn his master’s degree in education. He served as Assistant Superintendent of Collinsville Public Schools and was currently working on his Doctorate Degree in Industrial Arts.

On November 19, 1965, Craig married Margaret Ann Drake at the Church of Christ in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Craig was affiliated with the Church of Christ. He was also an avid OU football fan, golfer, woodworker, sportsman, fisherman and hunter. His greatest joys came from teaching school. Craig’s family was his top priority and the greatest love of his life were his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of almost 51 years, Margaret Ann Creech of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Clifton Creech of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brandon Wayne Creech and his wife Michelle of Mesquite, Texas, Collin Heath Creech and his wife Breanna of Talala, Oklahoma; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Wayne Creech and his wife Kathy of Merrillville, Indiana, Paul Dennis Creech and his wife Drew of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren, Randall Cotton Davis, Keegan Nathaniel Darby, Sophie Ann Creech, Caleb Edward Creech, Kirstie Nicole Rodriguez, JoLeigh Violet Creech, and Drake Carson Creech; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar L. Creech and Alice Vernell Creech.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Strother Historic Chapel located in Maple Grove Cemetery located at 1000 W. Strother Street, Seminole, Oklahoma. Dr. M. Carl A. Harris will officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Lu Conger

Lu Ella Conger, 83, lifelong Seminole resident, died Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee, where she had been staying for a short time. She was born on February 12, 1932 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Archie Lee Parsons and Sarah (Vela) Parsons.

Lu sold Avon Products for over 30 years.

Her husband Jack and two sons, Richard and Shane Conger preceded her in death. She leaves behind a daughter, Pam Gann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, two sons; Jim Conger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and David Conger of Seminole, Oklahoma; three loving daughters-in-law, Toni Nall, Jean Orrell and Lillie Davidson; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her cousin and best friend, Marjorie Stewart of Butner, Oklahoma, and a sister-in-law, Velena Sawyer of Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, south of Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Gene Cole

Eugene "Gene" Cole, 73 year old longtime Maud, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born March 12, 1942 in Salem, Arkansas to parents, Harmon Rufus "H.R." Cole and Ivy Lorene "Oreon" (Williams) Cole.

Gene had lived in Hereford, Texas for several years before moving to Seminole and then to Maud in 1971. He owned and operated "Gene Cole Liquefied Feed, " and had been a cattle rancher and farmer most of his life where he owned "Cole Farms." He had also worked for, Shawver-Hailey Construction several years. Gene then worked for the Maud Housing Authority, where he worked for the past 37 years, while he continued to raise cattle, which was his life.

Gene married Coretta Marie (Brown) Peavler on August 19, 1981 in Durant, Oklahoma.

Gene was a man of very few words, he had the heart of a giant. He loved all of his family very much.

Gene is a former member of the Maud Round-up Club and was also associated with Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.

Gene leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of almost 35 years, Coretta Cole of the home in Maud, Oklahoma; three sons, Loye Gene Cole and his wife, Karen of Columbus, Georgia, Brian Cole and his wife, Rachel of Maud, Oklahoma, Alton Peavler of Maud, Oklahoma; two daughters, Lisa Anne Cole of Maud, Oklahoma, Brenda Marie Underwood and her husband, Tecumseh "Tip" of Maud, Oklahoma; two sisters, (his twin sister) Pauline Bryant of Salem, Arkansas, Catherine Lee of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Rufus "H.R." Cole and Ivy Lorene "Oreon" (Williams) Cole, by three brothers, Thadnel Cole, Marvin Cole, Wayne Cole, and by two sisters, Winnie Faye Nichols and Fanny Olson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, Oklahoma wit Rev. Butch Bradley officiating the service. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma.

Visitation will begin Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.

Casket bearers will be: Nells Rodefeld, Nolan Doddson, Steve O’Daniel, Brian O’Daniel, Clarence Hopper, and Richard Adams.

Honorary bearers will be: Herb Buchanon, Neal Guinn, Ronald Rayburn, Jimmy Ivy, Brett O’Daniel, Barry O’Daniel, Jeff Lucy, and Gary McClaskey.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma (405) 374-2424.

Welda Chandler

Always believing she was of Native American descent, Welda Jeanne Wood Chandler joined the council of her Great Spirit on March 29, 2016 thru the portal of Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi.

She was the adopted daughter of Lawrence Bo Wood and Wilma Lynette Norman Wood. Jeanne was born at McAlester, Oklahoma on June 20, 1942. She grew up and graduated high school in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Upon graduation she attended East Central Oklahoma State in Ada, Oklahoma before transferring to Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, Oklahoma where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education; graduating in 1964.

Her teaching career included stints in Perry, Oklahoma; Littleton, Colorado; Fort Peck, Montana; White Settlement Fort Worth, Texas; Yazoo City, Vicksburg, and Tupelo, Mississippi. Her Master’s degree was earned at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. Not only did she aptly teach the sciences to gifted elementary students, she was a tutor, mentor, a master at securing financial grants for her own and other schools, she was a National Board Certified teacher.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Callier Chandler, daughters Jennifer Anne Johnson, Jade Renee Hudson, and son Justin Callier Chandler. Grandchildren are Cameron Riley Evans, Nathan Chandler Hudson, Madison Leigh Hudson, Abigale Syndney Chandler, and Emilie Claire Chandler as well as 2 great grandchildren.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Tupelo.

Per her wishes, there will no funeral or burial. Her body is donated to science.

Howard Cavender

Howard "Frosty" Cavender a resident of Durant, Ok passed from this life in Durant on May 16, 2016 at the age of 82. He was born on August 21, 1933 in Konawa, Ok to Claude and Viola (Wolfe) Cavender.

Frosty married Carolyn White in Madill, Ok on August 22, 1958. Frosty served his country as a Paratrooper in the United States Army. He was a semi-truck driver for most of his adult life. His greatest joy in his life was his family and grandchildren.

Frosty loved being outside working in his garden and raising cattle. Later in life he liked to watch Games Shows.

Mr. Cavender is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home; sons, Michael Cavender and Sandra of Mead, Ok and Steve Cavender of Durant, Ok; brothers, Joe Cavender and Vonda, Jimmy Cavender and Judy, and Paul Cavender and Carla all of Durant; sister, Norma Pettett and Billy Clyde of Durant, Ok; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces; and a host of friends.

Mr. Cavender was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Viola Cavender; brothers, Claude Wayne, Mike, Robert, and Jerry Cavender; sister, Miriam Chandler; grandchild, Kevin Sheffield.

A Family Hour will be from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday, May 19 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 20 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Randy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Larry Buckley

Larry Gene Buckley, 60, longtime Seminole county resident, died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home. Larry was born January 2, 1956, in Belvedere, California, to Ledon Buckley and Mary Jane (Fish) Buckley.

Larry was the enrollment director for the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, since 2002. Larry was also a member of the Creek Nation of Oklahoma and an Alabama Quarsarte Council Member.

He was a member of the Indian Nations Baptist Church in Seminole where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Larry was also an Emergency Reserved Firefighter with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Larry was married to Marcheta Walker Buckley on February 14, 1982, in Lynwood, California.

He is survived by his wife, Marcheta Buckley of home, sons, Daniel Ben Buckley and Timothy Titus Buckley, both of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Josiah Jay Buckley and Lorenzo Tiebout, both of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, three daughters, Sonciarai Laurene Buckley of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, and Courtnie Jane Buckley of McLoud, Oklahoma, Katrina Faith Buckley of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, sisters, Sandra, Mary Ronell and LaDonna; brothers Kenneth Buckley, grandchildren; Daniel Ben Buckley, Jr., Timothy Titus Buckley, Jr., Geramiah Johnathan Buckley, Aaliyah Zavala, Noah Buckley, Fayv ( Bug) Buckley, Alionna Buckley, Abrionna Buckley, Ethan Max Buckley and Waylen Tiger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ledon Buckley, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Indian Nations Baptist Church at 2nd and Evans Street, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Wake services will be at the church on Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. Mr. Buckley will be moved to the family home for visitation on Friday, February 19, 2016.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
