MARY N. VARADY
Services will be Friday for Mary N. (Novak) Varady, 89, of Black Rock Road, Royersford and formerly of Stowe in Upper Providence. She was a resident of the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center in Royersford.
She was the widow of William Varady.
Born in Hazleton, she worked as a sewing machine operator at Sunset Manufacturing in Pottstown until 1985.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Stowe, where she was a member of the Senior Fellowship and the Women’s Guild.
She is survived by one son, John Varady of Boyertown; three daughters, Marianne Reigner and Arlene Geisler, both of Stowe, and Carol Myers of Strausstown.
Also, two brothers, Charles Novak of Stowe and Alex Varady of Pottstown; two sisters, Elizabeth Basco of Pottstown and Margaret Toth of Las Vegas.
Also, 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Catagnus Funeral Home, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul’s Church, 653 Glasgow St., Stowe, with the Rev. Lenn Zeller and the Rev. James Myers, officiating.
Contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Memorial Fund, 653 Glasgow St., Stowe, PA 19464; or to the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center, 1600 Black Rock Road, Royersford, PA 19468.
Burial will be in the Pottstown Cemetery West.

MARY E. MILLER
Services were held for Mary E. (Gehris) Miller, 88, of Beverly Manor in Exeter, formerly of Green Hills Manor, Widenor Manor and Douglassville, who died April 3 in Beverly Manor.
She was the widow of Lester F. Miller.
Born in Niantic, she was a homemaker.
Miller is survived by three brothers.
She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
Burial was in Hill Church Cemetery in Pike Township.
The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.

BETTY A. SHIREY
A memorial service will be private for Betty A. (Bartholomew) Shirey, 60, wife of Daniel Shirey, of Earlville, who died April 2 in Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown.
A homemaker, Shirey was a member of Mechaya Missions in Earlville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steven Shirey and Daniel Shirey Jr., both of Earlville.
Also two brothers and one sister.
The arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania in King of Prussia.

ELIZABETH M. CLARK
Services and burial were private for Elizabeth M. Clark, 48, who died March 31 in her residence on Blandon Road, Ruscombmanor Township.
She was the wife of James R. Clark.
Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of George and Bertha (Yulick) Hikes, Laurel Commons, Muhlenberg Township.
Clark was employed for seven years as a registered nurse by Keystone Blood Bank, Reading, and was later employed by St. Joseph Medical Center at the St. Joseph Living Center, Hyde Park, last working March 28.
She was a 1972 graduate of Pine Grove High School, Schuylkill County, and a 1975 graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing.
Clark was a member of Salem (Shalter’s) Lutheran Church, Alsace Township.
She is also survived by two sons, James R. II, a student at Millersville University, and Chad D., at home.
Other survivors include two brothers and a sister.
The Milkins Funeral Home Inc., Temple, was in charge of the arrangements.

CARRIE C. RHOADS
Services were held for Carrie C. (Heydt) Rhoads, 91, of Gilbertsville, who died March 31 at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
She was the widow of Joseph Guldin and Russell Rhoads.
Born in Pike, Berks County, she worked as a supervisor for many years for several shoe manufacturing companies in Berks County.
Rhoads was a member of St. Joseph’s Hill Lutheran Church in Boyertown.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Janet Miller of Pottstown and also a step-grandson.
Rhoads was preceded in death by three sisters, and a foster son.
Donations may be made to the memorial fund at St. Joseph’s (Hill) Lutheran Church, 244 Koch Road, Boyertown, PA 19512.
Burial was in the Hill Church Cemetery .
The arrangements were handled by the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home of Pottstown.

JAMES R. YOUNG
Service were private and at the convenience of the family for James R. Young, 68, widower of Marjorie A. (Vroman) Young, of Hill Church Road in Pike Township, who died April 1 in his residence.
He was born in Ranshaw, Carbon County.
For 15 years, Young worked as a truck driver for the former Pottstown Disposal.
He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army.
Young is survived by a daughter, Suzanne M. Young of Oley; three sons, Richard R. Young, Michael J. Young and Charles R. Young, all of Pikeville.
Also one sister, Mary Anna (Young) of Douglassville and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Home Care, 2615 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606.
The arrangements were handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.

MARGARET M. KILPATRICK
Services were held for Margaret M. Kilpatrick, 90, of Boyertown, who died March 31 at her home. She was the widow of Joseph Kilpatrick.
Kilpatrick was a homemaker and was a member of New Hanover Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school.
She was a scout leader for the Cub Scouts, Brownies and the Girl Scouts. She was an officer of the Parent Teacher Association.
Surviving are two sons, Andy Kilpatrick of Hyde Park, N.Y., and Tim Kilpatrick of Philadelphia; a daughter, Trudy Smith of Boyertown.
Also a sister and six grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the church.
The arrangements were handled by the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

DOROTHEA L. WISE KUMPF
Services were held for Dorothea L. (Laudenslager) Wise Kumpf, 78, of Walker Drive, Boyertown, who died April 2 in the Reading Hospital & Medical Center in West Reading.
She was the widow of Henry D. Wise and Victor J. Kumpf.
Born in Emmaus, she graduated from Emmaus High School and Kutztown University in 1946.
She was a teacher for the Boyertown Area School District for 36 years until her retirement in 1982. She taught third grade and kindergarten at Washington School and Boyertown Elementary.
Kumpf was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyertown and an associate member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oley.
She was a life member of the Boyertown-Oley Retired Teachers Association, the Berks County Retired Teachers Association and the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Boyertown Area Music League.
She has no immediate survivors.
She was predeceased by a brother.
Contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 325 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, PA 19547; or to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Boyertown.
The arrangements were handled by the Morrell Funeral Home in Boyertown.

JACOB L. TREICHLER
Funeral services were held for Jacob L. “Jake” Treichler, 50, of Route 100, Barto, who died April 4 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle in front of his home.
Born in Zionsville, he was a son of Anna M. (Lagler) Treichler of Zionsville and the late Stanley H. Treichler.
He was the owner and operator of Jake’s Flea Market on Route 100 for 23 years. Before founding Jake’s, he was employed at the former Pillsbury Co. of East Greenville for 18 years.
He was a member of the New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ in East Greenville.
He was also a member of the Pikeville Sportsman’s Club.
Surviving with his mother are a sister, Janice L. Hartman of Bechtelsville; and six brothers, Jeremiah L. Treichler of Seasholtzville; Jeffrey L. Treichler of Bally, Jerome L. Treichler of Zionsville, Joel L. Treichler of Zionsville, James L. Treichler of Barto and Jason L. Treichler of Barto.
Along with his father he was preceded in death by a brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Robert Moses, Treasurer, National Penn Bank, 1830 E. High St., Pottstown, PA; or the American Heart Association, 625 W. Ridge Pike, Bldg. A, Suite 100, P.O. Box 382, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
Burial was at New Goshenhoppen Church Cemetery of East Greenville.
The arrangements were handled by the Catagnus Funeral Home, Gilbertsville.

MERLE M. STUART
A memorial service and private burial was held for Merle M. (Dierolf) Stuart, 98, in Beverly, MA, who died April 3.
She was the widow of Streeter Stuart, who was a Boston WBZ radio and television newsman.
Born in Reading, she spent most of her early years in Bechtelsville and Boyertown.
She was employed for several years at the former Bally Ribbon Mills.
Stuart attended Anderson University in Indiana.
She was a leader in women’s activities and church projects, she taught classes and coordinated interfaith prayer meetings in the Boston Area.
In 1979, she and her husband, assisted by their daughter, opened the Belmont Nutrition Center. She was also the founder of the Boston Orthomolecular Society.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Dr. Streeter S. Stuart , Jr. of Lansdale; and the Rev. Dr. Douglas Stuart of Boston, MA and a daughter, Tuyla M. Stuart of Danvers, MA.
Also, a sister, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
The memorial service was held at First Church, Congregational of Boxford, MA.
