Laura Wentz
Laura Wentz, 87, of Quakertown, Mar. 3, 2003 at St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital, Quakertown.
She was the wife of the late Willard T. Wentz.
Born in Richland Township, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ida (Diehl) Hallman.
She is survived by three sons, Dean and Keith both of Quakertown, and Dennis of Seminole, Fla.; one brother, Harry D. “Buddy” Hallman of St. Augustine, Fla.; two sisters, Evelyn Slifer and Betty Kurtz both of Quakertown; 12 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Richard D.
Funeral services were held Mar. 6, 2003. Interment was in Union Cemetery , Quakertown.

Dr. Eugene S. Mikus
Dr. Eugene “Gene” S. Mikus, 81, of Quakertown, died Feb. 28, 2003 in Grand View Hospital , West Rockhill Township.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Stanley and Jennie (Oshevski) Mikus.
He was a graduate of Cornell University, Class of 1944, where he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon completion of college, he entered the Naval Officers Training Program, serving in the United States Navy as an Ensign until 1946. During WWII, he served a tour of duty in the South Pacific. After serving in the military, he worked for General Electric Corp. for 28 years, retiring as vice president. He was also a graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic, St. Louis, Mo. where he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic. He continued postgraduate studies during his years of practice and in 1997 completed a rigorous 3-year course of clinical nutrition, and received his CCN in 1998. He continued with postgraduate courses up until the time of his passing.
Dr. Mikus practiced at the Quakertown Chiropractic Clinic for the past four years. Previously he practiced at Pennridge Health Clinic for 10 years and at Clymer Clinic, Quakertown, for 12 years.
He is survived by a sister, Roma Karp of East Hampton, N.Y.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery , East Hampton, N.Y.

Howard L. Kressler Sr.
Howard L. Kressler Sr., 87, of Quakertown, died Mar. 3, 2003, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill.
He was the husband of Ferne (Gutshall) Kressler. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in August 2002.
Born in Applebachsville, he was the son of the late Herbert S. and Meda Balliet Kressler.
He retired in 1975 after 25 years as manager of his brother, Herbert’s meat business on California Road, Quakertown.
He was a member of the Quakertown Evangelical Church and a former member of the Salem Methodist Church, Springtown, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. He was formerly a constable for Haycock Township, and served as a township police officer for 12 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Howard L. Jr. of Quakertown, Roger D. of Danielsville, and Herbert S. of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Dawne M. Kressler of Allentown, and Barbara A. Repash of Hellertown; three brothers, Herbert H. of Emmaus, Montford of Spring Hill, Fla. and Kenneth of Windsor, Colo.; two sisters, Nina Hoffman of Carbondale, Ill. and Sylvia Mease of Kintnersville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Mar. 7, in Springtown Cemetery , Springtown.

Russell D. Schantz
Russell D. Schantz, 79, of Trumbauersville, died Mar. 3, 2003 at St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital, Quakertown.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Ziegenfuss) Schantz. They were married 61 years in January.
Born in Trumbauersville, he was the son of the late Henry U. and Lizzie (Geiger) Schantz.
He was the owner of the former Schantz Real Estate and Insurance Co. in Trumbauersville. He was currently working for Baringer and Associates on a part-time basis.
He was a 1940 graduate of Quakertown Community High School.
He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Trumbauersville.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in WWII.
He was a member of the Trumbauersville Lions Club, and past president of the North Penn Shriners Club, and a member of the Quakertown Masonic Lodge No. 512. He was a life member of Trumbauersville Fire Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Russell D. Jr. of Franklin, Tenn., Mark S. of Richlandtown, and Richard L. of Emmaus; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Mar. 7.
Memorial contributions can be made to the church memorial fund.

Lester J. Fox
Lester J. Fox, 86, of Quakertown, formerly of Emmaus, died Mar. 4, 2003 at the Quakertown Center, Quakertown.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Coles) Fox.
Born in Green Lane, he was the son of the late Wallace and Gertrude (Jones) Fox.
He was employed as an accountant for the former Lehigh Country Club, Allentown, for 15 years before retiring in 1981.
He was a life member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumneytown.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in WWII.
He is survived by four cousins, Martha Afflerbach of Quakertown, Ivy Horner of Perkasie, Helen Gilbert of Green Lane, and Loretta Schnabel of Red Hill. He was cared for by a second cousin, Patricia Keller of Quakertown.
Services were held March 8. Interment was in Pennsburg United Church of Christ Cemetery , Pennsburg.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the St. John’s Lutheran Church-A/C Fund, P.O. Box 255, Sumneytown, PA 18084.

Stuart J. Woods
Stuart J. “Stu” Woods, 39, of Quakertown, died Mar. 4, 2003 at St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital.
He was the husband of Catherine “Cathy” (Scheetz) Woods. They were married for 17 years last November.
Born in West Chester, he was a son of Eylene (Ward) Woods of West Grove, and the late James Faddis Woods Sr.
Chief Woods graduated from Kennett Consolidated High School, Kennett Square, in 1981 and the Delaware Co. Police Academy, where he was second in his class in 1985.
His law enforcement career began investigating youth crime in Wildwood, N.J. He then went to the former East Rockhill Twp. Police Dept. in 1985. That police unit merged with Sellersville and West Rockhill Twp. in 1992 into the Pennridge Regional Police Dept., where he worked as the department’s first D.A.R.E. officer until accepting the position as Chief of the newly created Richland Twp. Police Dept. in 1998.
Chief Woods was chaplain of the Bucks County Police Assoc. and a member of the UBEST tactical team. He was a member of the Bucks Co. Pa. and International Associations of Police Chiefs and the F.O.P. No. 53.
He received numerous awards, honors and commendations. In 1986 he won the first place Expert Revolver and third place Two-Man Team Revolver, 1987 second place two-man Team Revolver and 1988 the second place Expert Semi-Automatic, all at the Buck County Police Pistol Match. The East Rockhill Twp. Lions Club awarded him a Certificate of Appreciation for excellence of programs in 1990. In 1992 he received the Officer of the Year, Public Service Award from the Sellersville Town Watch, the Outstanding Contributions and Services to the Community award from AAA East Penn. He received the Certificate of Appreciation for Excellence of Programs from the East Rockhill Lions Club, the Pennridge Regional Police Best Shot Award, the Governor’s Highway Safety Award for Outstanding Bicycle Safety Programs in 1993, as well as being recognized as Police Officer of the Year by the Bucks County Police Assoc. In 1994 he was awarded the James Hackett Memorial Good Neighbor Award from the Pennridge Chamber of Commerce for excellence in the D.A.R.E. program. He was awarded the Salute-A-Cop recognition for dedication, excellence and commitment to duty from WWDB talk radio and the Citizens of greater Phila. region in 1995. Others included 1996- the Youth Aid Panel Laison award from the Bucks County Juvenile Court, 1997- Pennridge Regional Police “Best Shot” Award, 1998- Certificate of Professionalism from the Bucks County Police Chiefs Assoc. and the Governor’s Highway Safety Award for Safety Education. His most recent honor came in 2002 when he was recognized as the Richland Twp. Staff member of the Year.
He was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Sellersville, Pa. where he was a Deacon, served as a Director of Outreach and with Youth Ministry Leadership. He also served on the Board of the Upper Bucks Christian School.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Assoc. and was involved in the “Just Communities” program , a youth an family facilitating agency in Quakertown.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by two sons, Joshua and Eliot and two daughters, Patricia and Jennifer all at home; three brothers, John P. of Batavia, N.Y., Russell of Portland, Ore., and Tyrone of Toughkinamon, Pa.; five sisters, Dorothy Lyttle of Lynchburg, Va., Judy Gregg of West Grove, Pa., Ramona Stafford of Pylesville, Md., Corrine Laferggie of Mawha, N.J., and Simone Wetenburger of Fayetteville, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Mar. 8. Interment was in Kellers Church Cemetery , Kellers Church. Pa.

George L. “Porky” Kesen
George L. “Porky” Kesen, 58, of Sellersville, died Mar. 5, 2003. at his home.
Born in Bethlehem, Pa he was the son of the late William H. and Mary E. ( Flammer) Kesen.
Mr. Kesen was employed as a painter for the Leonard Kunkin Associates, Line Lexington, Pa for over 16 years until retiring in 1997. Previously, he was employed by the Frank M. Weaver Co., Lansdale, Pa.
Devoted to his family, Mr.Kesen loved freshwater fishing and crossword puzzles.
He is survived by two brothers, William R. of Mesa, Ariz., and Terry of Bethlehem; four sisters, Georgeanne Kesen of Sellersville, Betty Garland of Clearwater, Fla., Mary Poust-Warnas of Sellersville, and Shirley Scampton of Pinellas Park, Fla.; three half-brothers, Paul French of Quakertown, Kenneth French of Wind Gap, Pa., and Michael Sidaraus of Bethlehem; seven nephews and five nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Kesen.
Funeral services were held Mar. 10. Interment was in the Zion Hill Cemetery .

Kathryn J. Kantner, 85, of Quakertown died Mar. 4, 2003 in Belle Haven Nursing Home, Quakertown, Pa.
She was the wife of the late Paul E. Kantner.
Born in Quakertown she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Heitz) Harr.
She was a former member of the Quakertown Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Quakertown.
Mrs. Kanter is survived a one daughter, Kay Wear of Quakertown; two grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson.
Services were held on Mar. 10.
Memorial contributions can be made to the church.

Naomi K. Huff
Naomi K. Huff, 78, of Quakertown died Mar. 5, 2003 in Quakertown, Pa.
She was the wife of Robert B. Huff. They were married for 58 years last December.
Born in Trumbauersville, she was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Mabel (Kline) Kramer.
Before retiring in 1986, Mrs. Huff was a packer for E.W.Knauss, Quakertown for a number of years. Previously, she was a hand worker for various clothing manufactures in the Quakertown area.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Robert G. of Everett, Pa., and Alan s. of Quakertown; two brothers, Donald K. Kramer of Hereford, and Ronald K. Kramer of Perkasie; one sister, Carolyn Thomas of Hereford; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Mar. 8.

Lester K. Brown
Lester K. Brown, 84, of Quakertown, formerly of Upper Black Eddy, died Mar. 6, 2003 in Belle Haven Nursing Home, Quakertown, Pa.
He was the husband of Harriette V. “Ginny” (Wolfe) Brown. They were married for 45 years last July.
Born in Trenton, N.J. he was the son of the late Willard M. and Myrtle R. (Paetzel) Brown.
Before his retirement in 1983, Mr. Brown was a carpenter for over 40 years with the Philadelphia Local #1595 Carpenters Union.
He was a member of Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church, Upper Black Eddy, Pa. where he formerly served on the church council.
Mr. Brown was also a member of Quakertown Senior Citizens and a former member of the Frenchtown VFW, Frenchtown, N.J. He also served on the Bridgeton Twp. Planning Committee for a number of years.
During WWII he was a Corporal with the U.S. Army serving with the 196th General Hospital as an X-Ray Technician including a tour of duty in France.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Wayne and Robert both of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.; one daughter, Beth Silva of Milford , N.J.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Willard and two sisters, Evelyn and Gladys.
Funeral services were held Mar. 8. Interment was private.
