January 7, 1930 - January 11, 2004

Ruth Joanne Massart, 74 of Lincoln Avenue, Butler, died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at her residence.

Born January 7, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of William Orin Sybert and Josephine Kummer.

Mrs. Massart worked as a Bobbin Winder for Magnetics. Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania, Vonnie Macefe of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, Six Grandchildren, Fourteen Great-Grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Massart is preceded in death by her husband Edmond Massart, two sisters and two brothers.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

D'Lauris M. Rickard

February 3, 1924 - January 5, 2004

D'Lauris M. Rickard, 79 of Sawmill Run Road, Butler, died Monday, January 5, 2004 at 4:30 a.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born February 3, 1924 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Dr. I. Thomas Jones and Laura Dieudonne.

Mrs. Rickard was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Rickard worked for the Vavoline Oil Firm Company until enlisting in the waves, where she was stationed at the Mechanicsburg Supply depot during World War II. She was discharged on May 10, 1946 and marriage Dean on June 10, 1946.

She attended the Mason-Felix Beauty School and upon completion became the manager of the Troutman's Beauty salon for approximately 13 years. She then opened her own beauty shop, the D'Lauris Rickard Beauty Shop on Cunningham Street in 1969 until her retirement in 1993. She still maintained her license to teach as a beautician. She was a member of A.A.R.P., the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Butler Chapter #45 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Rickard is survived by her husband Dean C. Rickard, two sons, Dennis C. Rickard of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey L. Rickard of Butler, Pennsylvania, two Grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Audrey Hepler of Butler, Pennsylvania, one brother, the Reverend Franklin T. Jones of Grayson, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Butler Chapter #45 of the Order of the Eastern Star will assemble at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 7, 2003 at 6:45 p.m. to conduct an O.E.S. Service.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend J. David Panther officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Military services will be conducted at the Cemetery by V.F.W. Post #249 following church services.

Antoinette F. Tomko

March 24, 1935 - January 1, 2004

Antoinette (Toni) Forbes Tomko age 68 of Moreland Hills, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on March 24, 1935 she was the daughter of the late John Laing Forbes and Doris Dittmer Forbes Mechling.

Mrs. Tomko had been employed as a executive secretary for various firms through out her life, she retired as a executive secretary for the Internal Revenue Service.

Mrs. Tomko was a graduate of Butler High School and Allegheny College. She was very active with the Kappa Alpha Theta Women's Fraternity up until her death.

Mrs. Tomko is survived by her husband Thomas Tomko whom she marriage on February 13, 1964 and first cousins: Gail Ciccarello of Butler, Pennsylvania; Melissa Gitlin of Bamburg, Germany; Geoffry Gitlin of Atlanta, Georgia; Beth Gitlin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Lynne Wells of Bradenton, Florida; and Sharon Day of Rumson, New Jersey.

Friends and family of Antoinette Tomko will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc. 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be from the funeral home on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Kevin Bowen of the Middlesex Presbyterian Church in America Officiating. Interment will follow in the North Side Cemetery Butler, Pennsylvania.

Katalin Maria Borvendeg

May 30, 1966 - January 2, 2004

Katalin Maria Borvendeg, age 37 of West Pearl Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on January 2, 2004 at 1:15 p.m. at the West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a result of complications of childbirth.

Born on May 30, 1966 in Szony, Hungary, she was the daughter of Jozsef Borvendeg and Etelka Kolompar.

Katalin received a PhD from The Hungarian University of Physical Education in Budapest, Hungary.

She was a professor at Slippery Rock University and also at Butler County Community College.

Katalin is survived by her husband, Nelson Ng whom she marriage on August 17, 1996, her son whom was just born, Benjamin Lee Borvendeg- Ng, her father Jozsef Borvendeg of Hungary, one brother Attila Borvendeg of Hungary. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Friends and family of Katalin Borvendeg will be received on Friday, January 16, 2004 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME INC, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 9:00 P.M. Interment will be in Hungary.

L. Freeman Hall

August 14, 1909 - January 3, 2004

L. Freeman Hall, 94 formerly of Thornwood Road, Meadowood, Butler, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at 1:10 p.m. at Shelbourne Assisted Living.

Born August 14, 1909 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Loyal F. Hall and Linnie Louise Bonner.

Mr. Hall worked as a mill representative at Armco for 40 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Hall attended Westminster College in New Wilmington and Beckley College in Harrisburg. He was a member of Armco Management Club and a charter member of Butler Armco Country Club. He has played golf since the age of 8 years old.

Mr. Hall is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William Bryson and Barbara J. Hall of Morgantown, West Virginia, two grandsons, W. Bryson Hall and Andrew J. Hall of Morgantown, West Virginia.

Mr. Hall is preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth S. Bryson Hall, who passed away on January 10, 2003 and by a sister and a brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, from Tuesday, January 6, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Clark Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Steve Halahurich

March 24, 1924 - February 8, 2004

Steve Halahurich, 79 of South Duffy Road, Butler, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 12:50 p.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 24, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alex Halahurich and Eva Popudnyk.

Mr. Halahurich was a steel worker for Armco Steel for 43 years. He was a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Butler High School, class of 1942. Mr. Halahurich was a member of the VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778, and a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Mr. Halahurich is survived by his wife, Dolores J. Halahurich, whom he marriage on March 31, 1949, a two sons, James J. Halahurich of Templeton, Pennsylvania, Stephen D. Halahurich of Butler, Pennsylvania, four daughters, Bonnie A. Mitchell of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Donna M. Bobby of Butler, Pennsylvania, Kathryn L. Hortert of Gaylestown, Maryland, Eva (Tina) Plaisted of Butler, Pennsylvania, nine Grandchildren and three Great-Grandchildren, one sister, Mary Youshock of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, one brother, William Halahurich of Lyndora, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral liturgy will be held at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lyndora on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Dennis Bogda officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
