John C. Cochran

March 18, 1924 - February 1, 2004

John C. Cochran, 79 of Kemar Drive, Butler, died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at 12:50 a.m. in Sunnyview Home.

Born March 18, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John Earl Cochran and Iva Mae Barnhart.

Mr. Cochran worked as a clerk for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Cochran was a veteran of the U. S. Army and World War II. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed camping, hunting, boating and water skiing and snowmobiling. He was a former Scoutmaster with troop #12 of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife, Lois E. (Elliott) Cochran, whom he marriage on June 5, 1948, one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Cheryl) King of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, two sons, Bruce J. Cochran and Robert E. Cochran both of Butler, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cochran is preceded in death by his brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Richard J. Leseganich officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be sent to the Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Harold E. Campbell

July 6, 1910- February 11, 2004

Harold E. Campbell, 93 of Carbon Street, Butler, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in Sunnyview Home.

Born July 6, 1910 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Harry Campbell and Olive Phelps.

Mr. Campbell was employed as a welder for Armco Steel and he retired after 30 years of service.

Mr. Campbell was a lifetime member of the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club, a former member of the Elks Club in Warren, Ohio, a member of the Old Erie Three Lodge F & AM of Warren, Ohio and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of New Castle. He had been active in all sports activities. Mr. Campbell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WWII and the Korean War.

Mr. Campbel is survived by one son, Victor D. Campbell of Edgewood, Washington, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Marie E. Campbell who died December 16, 1995, and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 from 9 to 10 a.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday February 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Zelienople Mausoleum.

Contributions may be sent to Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16053, or to the Blind Association of Butler, 322 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the donor's choice.

Melvin W. Crispin

December 10, 1930 - February 12, 2004

Melvin (Mel) W. Crispin, age 73 of Miller Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. at the Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on December 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Russell Crispin and Florence Faust Crispin.

Mr. Crispin was an employee of the former Butler Vulcanizing and later owned and operated Mel's Water Filtering Service. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Butler and the 700 Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Crispin is survived by his wife Nancy J. Miller whom he marriage April 30, 1956, one son, Charles Leroy Crispin of Jacksonville, Arkansas, one daughter, Mary Margaret Crispin of Butler, Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, two brothers, Gerald Crispin and Ronald Crispin of Butler, Pennsylvania, one sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Violet) Rihel of Butler, Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews. Mr. Crispin was preceded in death by one sister.

Friends and family of Melvin Crispin will be received Monday, February 16, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Funeral Services will follow at 9:00 p.m. with the Reverend J. David Panther of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Internment will be in The Butler County Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to the 700 Club or to The First United Methodist Church, 200 East North St. Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Thomas H. Coyle, Jr.

June 13, 1921 - February 13, 2004

Thomas H. Coyle, Jr., 82 of Chestnut Drive, Butler, died at Friday, February 13, 2004 at 6:30 a.m. in U.P.M.C. Passavant Hospital.

Born June 13, 1921 in Towanda, PA, he was the son of Thomas Harold Coyle, Sr. and Lela C. Burgess.

Mr. Coyle was employed as a scout executive for Moraine Trails Council and for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Mr. Coyle was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Moraine Trail Council, the Rotary Club of Butler, Mansfield University Foundation, Butler United Way, Meals on Wheels, and Associated Artists of Butler County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving WWII and he was a member of the American Legion #117.

Surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. John (Colleen) Oszustowicz of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Bruce (Constance) Mazzoni of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, a son, Timothy A. Coyle of Marietta, Oklahoma, five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Coyle was preceded in death by his wife, Leatrice Aleene Cunningham who died July 24, 2001 and by his two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday February 15, 2004 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm to 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

Services will be held at the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Monday February 16, 2004 at 11:00 am.

Interment will be in Indian Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

Gene R. Oesterling

August 7, 1919 - February 14, 2004

Gene R. Oesterling, 84 of Butler, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born August 7, 1919 in Carbon Center, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Earl A. Oesterling and Ruth Irene Leithold.

Mr. Oesterling was a dairy farmer and a retired custodian at Butler Vo-Tech School. He previously worked Franklin Glass Company. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Oesterling served in WW II in the United States Navy. He was a former 4-H leader, former Hannahstown Insurance Director, member of East Butler Fireman's Club, VFW Post 249, charter member of Happy Hunters Sportsman's Club, and the Sinnemahonning Sportsman's Club.

Mr. Oesterling is survived by his wife, Betty J. Fennell Oesterling, whom he marriage on October 5, 1940 two sons, Donald W. Oesterling and Raymond G. Oesterling of Butler, Pennsylvania, one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Lois) McCall of Chicora, Pennsylvania, six Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Betty Landgraf of Butler, Pennsylvania, one brother, Earl Oesterling of Butler, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, from Tuesday, February 17, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Richard J. Leseganich officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. V.F.W. Post 249 will conduct military honors at the Cemetery.

Harriet O. McCall

Harriet Oesterling McCall, 75 formerly of Butler, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 in Diamond Place Adult Care Center, Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Clarence Oesterling and Margaret McCandless.

Mrs. McCall was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels in the Butler Area. She had been active in the Anna Circle of her church, and a former Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. McCall is survived by one son, Timothy S. McCall of Worcester, Massachusetts, one grandson, one sister, Eleanor Hauserman of Huntsville, Alabama.

Mrs. McCall is preceded in death by her husband Ronald G. McCall, who passed away on January 10, 1989.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, February 20, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Richard J. Leseganich officiating. Interment will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.
