Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Kepple

Elizabeth R. “Betty” Kepple, 88, of Chicora Medical Center died at 8:17 p.m. Sunday at the center.

Born in Petrolia, Nov. 5, 1912, she was the daughter of Dr. Robert and Grace Amsler Elrick.

A graduate of Karns City High School, she graduated from Slippery Rock Normal School, now Slippery Rock University, in 1932 and taught in various one-room schools during the 1930s.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chicora, where she had been a Sunday school teacher for years. She also was a member of the Chicora Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Hilderbrand of Greenville; a sister, Marjorie Elrick of Petrolia; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Her husband, Alfred H. Kepple, whom she married Dec. 14, 1933, died Dec. 6, 1983. A son, a brother and two grandchildren also preceded her in death.

KEPPLE - Friends of Elizabeth R. “Betty” Kepple, who died Sunday, May 20, 2001, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Higgins, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery , Chicora R.D. 1.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, PA 16025.

Jean Frank

Jean Frank, 83, of Parker, formerly of Colonie, N.Y., died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter after an illness.

Born in Albany, N.Y., Feb. 20, 1918, she was the daughter of Rocco and Carmela Treano LaSacco.

Mrs. Frank had been a baker at Freihofers Baking Co. in New York for years.

She was Catholic.

Surviving are a son, Edward Frank of Alta Mont, N.Y., two daughters: Mrs. Roberta Ann Dale of Delmar, N.Y., and Mrs. William (Mary) Slaugenhoup of Parker; and three sisters: Anna LaSacco of Water Valiet, N.Y., and Sophie LaSacco and Angeliene Henderson, both of Albany. Six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Her husband, Edward C. Frank, died Oct. 7, 1999. Three sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.

There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Glenmont, N.Y.

Angelo J. Cammisa

Angelo J. Cammisa, 77, of 230˝ McClain Ave. died Monday evening at Sunnyview Nursing Home after an illness.

Born in Butler, May 21, 1924, he was the son of Costantina Diasio Cammisa and the late Michael Cammisa.

He retired from Armco-Butler Works after 40 years.

Mr. Cammisa was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the Ushers’ Club of the Church and the Italian Society of Butler.

He is survived by a son, Joseph Cammisa of Butler; his mother of Butler; and four brothers, Romeo, John, Albert and Michael D. Cammisa, all of Butler. Two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Rovetto Cammisa, who died in 1952; and a brother.

CAMMISA - Friends of Angelo J. Cammisa, who died Monday, May 21, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue. The Rev. James Dolan, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the church Cemetery in Summit Township.

The Bereavement Group of St. Michael Parish will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

H. Joanne Boots

H. Joanne Boots, 67, of North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, died of cancer Monday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Nov. 15, 1933, in North Sewickley Township, she was the daughter of William F. and Verna E. Fowler Miller.

She was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls and an officer of the Beaver-Butler Presbyterian Women’s Association.

Surviving are her husband, William James Boots, whom she married March 27, 1951; three sons, William and James Boots, both of North Sewickley Township, and Brian Boots of Daugherty Township; four daughters, Mrs. James (Cynthia) Youhon of Penn Hills, Mrs. Mike (Barbara) Jablonski and Mrs. Scott (Sherian) Foust, both of Chippewa Township, and Jodi Boots of North Sewickley Township; and nine grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Nancy) Herrmann of North Sewickley Township and Carolyn Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; and a brother, Dean Miller of Chicago, Ill.

An infant daughter preceded her in death.

BOOTS - Friends of H. Joanne Boots, who died Monday, May 21, 2001, will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at HILL & KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, 3801 Fourth Ave., Beaver Falls. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Bortner officiating. Burial will follow at the North Sewickley Cemetery , North Sewickley Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1103 Eighth Ave., Beaver Falls. PA 15010.

Elizabeth V. Beatty

Elizabeth V. Beatty, 98, of 349 Thorn Run Road, Oakland Township, died Monday morning at her home.

Born in Oakland Township, May 30, 1902, she was the daughter of Jacob and Zella Summerville Vensel.

She was a graduate of Slippery Rock Normal School, now Slippery Rock University, and taught at schools in Fairview, Oakland and Butler townships before her marriage.

Mrs. Beatty was a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America.

She is survived by her husband, William J. Beatty; two sons, John E. Beatty Sr. of New Albany, Ind., and Lee Beatty of Pfafftown, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

BEATTY - Friends of Elizabeth V. Beatty, who died Monday, May 21, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Warren Ihlenfeld officiating. Burial will be at North Butler Church Cemetery , Oakland Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Fund, Westminster PCA Church, 420 N. Main St., Butler, PA 16001.

Charles A. Luppe

Charles A. Luppe, 70, of Butler died at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born Oct. 16, 1930, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of John and Dora M. Ransick Luppe.

He retired as construction superintendent with the Dick Corp. of Pittsburgh and was a member of Local 922 of the Carpenters Union. He also was active supervising Habitat for Humanity construction.

Three years ago he and his wife moved back to Butler after several years in Florida and Texas.

Mr. Luppe was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Victory Lodge 694, Scottish Rite of New of Castle, Syria Temple and the Shrine Legion Honor.

He was involved with Boy Scouts and was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and had served as Scoutmaster for several troops.

He was an Army veteran.

He enjoyed gardening, golfing and traveling.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn J. Thompson Luppe; four sons, Scott T. Luppe of Kalamazoo, Mich., Timothy W. Luppe of Nashville, Tenn., and John R. and James E. Luppe, both of Butler; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A sister, Laura Broch of Butler, and two brothers, John F. Luppe of Butler and Franklin J. Luppe of Clarksville, Tenn., also survive.

A sister preceded him in death.

LUPPE - There will be no visitation. Memorial services for Charles A. Luppe, who died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, corner of McKean and North streets. The Rev. J. David Panther, church pastor, will officiate. Private burial will be at West Sunbury Union Cemetery .

Arrangements are by YOUNG FUNERAL HOME.

Earl Kennedy

Earl Kennedy, 79, of Penn Township died at 4:30 p.m. Monday at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Sept. 14, 1921, in Penn Township, he was the son of Bryson Earl and Mary Catherine Thompson Kennedy.

He was a member of the Gospel Fellowship PCA Church in America of Valencia, Victory Lodge 694, Scottish Rite of New Castle, Syria Temple, Butler Shrine Caravan 14, Butler Shrine Luncheon Club and the Legion of Honor.

Mr. Kennedy had retired as superintendent of the Butler Country Club after 25 years and was a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Golf Courses Superintendents’ Association. He also had been superintendent of North Side Cemetery for several years.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

He is survived by his wife Lucille Beck Kennedy, whom he married Feb 14, 1969; a daughter Mrs. Jeffrey (Susan) Anderson of Butler; three sons, Dr. Paul Nicoletto of Beaumont, Texas, Edward Kennedy of San Antonio, Texas, and James Nicoletto of Craig, Colo.; and six grandchildren. A sister, Pearl Strain of Greene, N.Y. also survives.

Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

KENNEDY - Friends of B. Earl Kennedy, who died Monday, May 21, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gospel Fellowship PCA Church, McFann Road, Valencia. The Rev. Ozzie Kenyon, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

Masonic Lodge 694 will conduct services at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the donor’s favorite charity.

Ruth H. Henricks

Ruth H. Henricks, 85, of Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, Blair County, died late Saturday evening at the home after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 27, 1915, in Piney Creek, Bedford County, she was the daughter of Eli B. and Elizabeth Guyer Hoover.

She was a 1933 honors graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, near Martinsburg. Along with her husband, she owned and operated a retail dairy farm in Butler County for more than 25 years. She also had been a Butler County 4-H Club leader for 17 years.

Mrs. Henricks later worked at the Cove Shoe Co., Martinsburg, for 10 years. She also had been a volunteer at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg and Nason Hospital snack bar in Roaring Spring.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Martinsburg, where she belonged to the women’s adult Sunday school class and the Gleaners.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. H. Clark (Marjorie H.) Underwood Jr. of Hilton Head, S.C., and Carolyn H. McGuigan of Millersville; a son. Walter H. Henricks II of Pittsburgh; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. A sister, Grace H. Nicodemus of Martinsburg, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Her husband, Walter H. Henricks Sr., whom she married Jan. 25, 1937, in Martinsburg, died April 29, 1967. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters and two brothers.

HENRICKS - Friends of Ruth H. Henricks, who died Saturday, May 19, 2001, will be received from noon to 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Timothy Knauss officiating. Burial will be held Saturday at South Cemetery , Butler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Grace E. Carnahan

Grace E. Carnahan, 89, of Butler died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at Chicora Medical Center after a short illness.

Born Feb. 4, 1912, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of Samuel Martin and Julia Maude Gilbert Bartlett

She was a member of the Church of the Living Word of Meridian.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) Oswald of Butler and twins, Leslie Peters, with whom she had made her home, and Mrs. Arthur (Leeanna) Porter of Sarver; a son, Gilbert Polliard of Prospect; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A brother, the Rev. Howard L. Bartlett of Memphis, Tenn., also survives.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a sister and four brothers.

CARNAHAN - Friends of Grace E. Carnahan, who died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. William Glassman, her church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at West Warsaw Riggs Cemetery , near Brookville.

Rev. Howard Weyant

The Rev. Howard Weyant, 77, of 409 S. Main St., Harrisville, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born March 22, 1924, in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of George and Margaret Vandermark Weyant.

Rev. Weyant was a missionary with the Evangelical Baptist Missions, where he worked with his wife, Betty, for 39 years in Martinique, West Indies. They also did missionary work in France.

He started his missionary work with the American Mission for Opening and Closing of Churches in Folsomdale, N.Y., for three years, starting in 1950.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grove City.

He was a graduate of Valley Central High School in Utica, N.Y., the Utica School of Commerce, and Moody Bible Institute of Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married Aug. 30, 1946.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Holly) Sutton of Middleburg, N.Y., and Heather Harper of Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Bradley Weyant of Newman, Ga.; three sisters: Katherine Treible of Greencastle, Ind.; Barbara Kucza of Danbury, Conn.; and Joan Bush of Matamoras, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services were held Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Grove City. The Rev. David Johnson, church pastor, officiated. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery , Harrisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 103 Cranberry Road, Grove City, PA 16127; or Hospice Services, Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
