Hazel C. Goehring SahIi

Hazel C. Goehring Sahli, 91, of Harmony died Tuesday at Ellwood City Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1910, in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of Amos and Mary Householder Pflugh.

She had operated Sahli Lime, Feed & Fertilizer for 50 years.

Mrs. Sahli was a member of the Grace Church of Harmony and a former member of the Jackson Grange.

She is survived by two sons, Earl L Sr. and Paul E. Goehring, both of Harmony; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister, Harold Pflugh and Eleanor Gray, also survive.

Her first husband, Harry L. Goehring, whom she married June 17, 1931, died April 5, 1963; and her second husband, William E. Sahli whom she married Oct. 21, 1966, died Nov. 15, 1971. An infant son, a brother and a sister also preceded her in death.

SAHLI - Friends of Hazel C. Goehring Sahli, who died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Peter Everett, her church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at St. John’s Burry’s Church Cemetery , New Sewickley Township, Beaver County.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace Church of Harmony, P.O. Box 275, Harmony, 16037.

Walter Klepper

Walter Klepper, 85, of Butler and Ocala, Fla., died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at United Community Hospital, Grove City.

Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Carnegie, he was the son of John and Margaret Elizabeth Braunroth Klepper.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, VFW 249, Moose Lodge 64 and Legion of Moose 1.

Mr. Klepper had retired as a computer operator for the Internal Revenue Service after more than 20 years.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Geibel Klepper, whom he married Dec. 28, 1949; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Peggy) Wilbert of Butler and Patty Ellis of York; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, a half sister and a half brother.

A private graveside service was held today at Crown Hill Cemetery , Prospect. The Rev. James Dollhopf officiated.

The Moniteau Area Ceremonial Squad conducted military honor services.

Arrangements were by YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, Butler.

Charles Jack

Charles Jack, 86, of Sugar Creek Rest near Worthington, formerly of Kittanning, died Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Washington Township, Armstrong County, March 2, 1915, he was the son of Milton and Monty Wolfe Jack.

He was a Protestant and attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Adrian

Mr. Jack had retired from the Kittanning Brick Co., Adrian

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Wolff Jack; and six sons, James Jack of Worthington, Ronald Jack of Cowansville, Berton Jack of Butler, Terry Jack of Sarver Richard Jack of Worthington and Dennis Jack of Adrian. Two brothers, Thomas and Finley Jack, both of Adrian; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild also survive.

Two infant daughters, an infant son, and two sisters preceded him in death.

JACK - Friends of Charles Jack, who died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning. Visitation also will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Adrian, where services will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Arlyn Eisenbrandt, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the church Cemetery .

James Davison

James Davison, 59, of Port Orange, Fla., died unexpected Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla.

Born in Butler on May 8, 1942, he was the son of Ellsworth and Irene Clager Davison.

He moved to Port Orange from Orlando, Fla., in 1999.

He was a self-employed kitchen designer.

Mr. Davison was an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn “Timmie” Davison; two daughters, Jody Kostek and Julie Chawalik, both of Pennsylvania; a stepdaughter, Lee Burke of Winter Springs, Fla.; a stepson, Chris McCullough of Apopka, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Ellsworth “Shorty” Davison of Pennsylvania; and three sisters, Helen Dunbar and Shirley Abt, both of Butler, and May Steinke of St. Cloud, Fla.

DAVISON - Friends of James Davison, who died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel at BAGGETT & SUMMERS FUNERAL HOME, 736 S. Beach St., Daytona Beach. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with a family friend officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., A-2, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

Charles Henry Bareis

Charles Henry Bareis, 84, of Ellwood City died Tuesday at Ellwood City Hospital.

Born Aug. 18. 1916, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Charles W. and Marie T. Ginghambacher Bareis.

He retired in 1978 as a millwright at J&L Steel after 20 years.

Mr. Bareis was a former member of the Zelienople Odd Fellows.

He is survived by his wife, Twila M. Houk Bareis, whom he married June 3, 1940; three daughters, Myma Best of Portersville, Audrey Rogan of Ellwood City and Janet Zeigler of Evans City; two sons, Dennis Bareis of South Carolina and Nelson Bareis of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A brother preceded him in death.

BAREIS - Friends of Charles Henry Bareis, who died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bruce Seivers and the Rev. Michael Charles will officiate. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery , Middle Lancaster, Lancaster Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Portersville Bible Church, 111 E. Portersville Road, Portersville, PA 16051.

Dorothy E. Rock

Dorothy E. Rock, 80, of Butler died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday at the Sunnyview Home.

Born April 1, 1921, in Coaltown, Cherry Township, she was a daughter of Xavier Hugh and Bertha M. Stevenson Gardner.

Mrs. Rock was a retired nurse’s aide. She had worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center on New Castle Road.

She is survived by four sons, John Rock Jr. of Pittsburgh, Steve Rock of Orlando, Fla., Robert Rock of Butler, and Douglas Rock of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Emma Goas of West Sunbury and Mrs. Lawrence (Wilhelmina) Miller of Cherry Township; two brothers, William X. Gardner of Butler and Clair W. Gardner of Slippery Rock; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother.

ROCK - Friends of Dorothy E. Rock, who died Thursday, May 17, 2001, will be received from 12 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. David L. Fisher of Homeacre Chapel officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery .

Dominick ‘Buddy’ Nastasi

Dominick M. “Buddy” Nastasi, 64, of 225 Alameda Road died at 11:07 a.m. Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler, March 3, 1937, he was the son of James L. Sr. and Julia Kolch Nastasi.

He and his brother owned and operated the Manhattan Restaurant on West Cunningham Street.

Mr. Nastasi was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Suchy Nastasi, to whom he was married for 42 years; three sons, James M. Nastasi of Tallahassee, Fla., Gregory P. Nastasi of Philadelphia and Philip F. Nastasi of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Dominique M.) Haibach of Erie and Juliann Nastasi of Butler; and a granddaughter.

He also is survived by his parents of Butler; a brother, James “Buster” Nastasi Jr. of Butler; and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Judy) Wojcik of Fort Lauderdale Fla.

NASTASI - There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Dominick M. “Buddy” Nastasi, who died Thursday, May 17, 2001, will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. James Dolan, church pastor, will officiate. Private burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery , Summit Township.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Arrangements are by MARTIN FUNERAL HOME.

Rose M. Garbish

Rose M. Garbish, 86, of Steelton, Dauphin County, formerly of Hickory Street, died Thursday evening at the Middletown Home, Dauphin County.

Born in Patton, Cambria County, Aug. 31, 1914, she was the daughter of Santo and Anna Pizzutti Rogers.

She formerly worked at Spaide Shirt Factory and also had been a senior aide at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

Mrs. Garbish was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church of Butler and Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church of Steelton.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Marlene) Moyer of Steelton; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Kenyon of Butler; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Andrew Garbish, died in 1953. A son, eight brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.

GARBISH - Friends of Rose M. Garbish, who died Thursday, May 17, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. James Dolan, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery , Summit Township.

The Bereavement Group of St. Michael Parish will hold a scriptural wake service at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Paul J. ‘Baldy’ Clawson

Paul J. “Baldy” Clawson, 75, of West Freedom, Clarion County, died at 4 p.m. Thursday at his home after a brief illness.

Born in Clarion County, Oct. 30, 1925, he was the son of Lewis and Inez Boyd Clawson.

He attended the West Freedom United Methodist Church and was a social member of the Clarion VFW post.

Mr. Clawson had owned and operated Clawson Trucking in West Freedom for years. He also had been employed by Westrac Inc. in Mercer.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also initiated and coached Little League baseball in West Freedom for years.

Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Wilson of Parker; a son, Jim Clawson of West Freedom; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. James (Minnie) Callender of West Freedom, Janet Wike of Clarview Rest and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, and Mrs. Don (Betty) Young of Cortland, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Jennie Hofler Clawson, whom he married Dec. 24, 1944, died Nov. 12, 1995. A grandson, four brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.

CLAWSON - Friends of Paul J. “Buddy” Clawson, who died Thursday, May 17, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at West Freedom United Methodist Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Barry Wyent, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Freedom Cemetery .

Woodrow P. McCandless

Woodrow “Woody” P. McCandless, 82, of William Flynn Highway, Slippery Rock, died Saturday at 4:10 a.m. at his residence after an extended illness.

Born June 20, 1918, in Branchton, Slippery Rock Township, he was the son of Thomas G. and Clara M. Hockenberry McCandless.

During World War II, Mr. McCandless was employed at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City. He was then employed at Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing in Butler as a foreman.

Mr. McCandless was a member of No. 603 Free and Accepted Masons of Grove City and of the Grove City AARP.

He had attended the First Church of God in Grove City.

Mr. McCandless is survived by his wife, Miona Bachman McCandless, whom he married Oct. 17, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Dianna) Kelly of Grove City; four sisters, Mrs. Clyde (June) Coulter of Grove City, Mrs. Donald (Esther) Eller of Erie, Mrs. Howard (Kathryn) Hockenberry of Clintonville and Mrs. Chester (Clara) Coulter of Grove City; and two brothers, Cecil McCandless of Slippery Rock and Kenneth McCandless of Grove City. Also surviving is a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

McCANDLESS - Friends of Woodrow “Woody” P. McCandless, who died Saturday, May 19, 2001, will be received from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Barrett, pastor of the First Church of God in Grove City, officiating. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Cemetery , Butler.
