Harold E. Sheaffer, 93, formerly of 213 Market St., Newport, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
Born Oct. 19, 1903 in Newport he was a son of the late William H. and Clara Myers Sheaffer and the widower of Florence Taylor Sheaffer.
Mr. Sheaffer was retired from the former Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of the Incarnation United Church of Christ, the Social Order of Owls, the Order of Moose No. 1562, all of Newport, and Friends of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Strasburg.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. of Mechanicsburg and William F. of Gardners; a daughter, Shirley F. Brookhart of Thompsontown; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Haines, and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Patricia Carque officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Services for John E. Swigert, 39, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and originally from Carlisle, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Jeffries and Keates Funeral Home, Tilton and Infield Avenue, Northfield, N.J.
He died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in his home.
Born in Carlisle, Mr. Swigert worked as a manager for Schiff Enterprises, Atlantic City.
He graduated from Carlisle High School and Stockton State College and served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Linda K. Goff Swigert, a son, Alexander; a daughter, Amber; his mother, June Weller of Carlisle; and three sisters, Karla Roberts, Vonnie Chestnut and Debra Swigert, all of Carlisle.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9, Swainton, N.J. 08210.

Services for Betty Louise Barrick, 62, of 126 Darr Ave., Carlisle will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
She died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1935 in Perry County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Wilbur and Effie Irene Gamber Shearer.
A retired employee of G.S. Electric Co., Carlisle, Ms. Barrick was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Kingstown.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamela Sprecher of Shermans Dale, Wendy Beckman and Jodi Geiling, both of Carlisle; six sisters, Loretta Paulus of Newville, Dorothy Ritchie of Elizabethtown, Mary Paulus of Shermans Dale, Helen Casner of Plainfield, Ruth Barrick of Lake Butler, Fla. and Darlene Snyder of Carlisle; two brothers, Charles Shearer of Bridgeport, Conn. and James Shearer of Newville; and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Joseph L. Kugle will officiate at Saturday's service. Burial will be in Waggoners United Methodist Church Cemetery, North Middleton Township.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bertie Derr, 96, of 35 Creek Road, Newville, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at Swaim Health Center, Newville.
Born Jan. 11, 1901 in Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Sadie Hippensteel March and the widow of Thomas J. Derr.
Mrs. Derr was a housewife and a member of the Church of the Brethren, Newville.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lehman of Carlisle and Doris Fickes of Newville; a son, Thomas J. Jr. of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Egger Funeral Home, 15 Big Spring Ave., Newville with the Rev. Harold Yeager officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Phyllis C. Gebhard Hamburg, 80, of Cumberland Crossings Retirement Center, South Middleton Township, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, in the center.
Born Dec. 14, 1916, in Newport News, Va., she was a daughter of the late William J. and Edna Jeffries Gebhard. She was the widow of Russell H. Hamburg, who died in 1993.
A 1937 graduate of Carlisle High School, Mrs. Hamburg was a retired dental assistant for Dunham Hospital, Carlisle Barracks.
Surviving are her son, William S. Fairall of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, James B. Gebhard of Carlisle; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda P. Greer, who died in 1989.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. James D. Link officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, North Middleton Township.
Friends may call from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial services for Mervin M. Hoffman, 66, of 54 Main St., Mechanicsburg, who died Sunday, July 13, 1997, will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Filey's Parish, 15 S. Filey's Road, Dillsburg.

Services for Robert G. Nickle, 55, of 46 E. Penn St., Carlisle will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
He died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born Jan. 25, 1942 in Newville, he was a son of the late Murray L. and Mary K. Brownawell Nickle.
Mr. Nickle was an employee of the MJ Mall, Carlisle. He was a Methodist and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two daughters, Suzette Varner of Newville and Suzanna of Carlisle; two sisters, Lauretta Russell of Carlisle and Marlene K. Laughman of Newville; four brothers, Donald L., Buddy R., Edd F., all of Carlisle and Howard M. of Plant City, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Jo Nickle.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township, Lebanon County.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Mixell Rowe, 86, of 80 Parker Road, Newville, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 in Forest Park Nursing Home, Carlisle.
Born April 1, 1911, she was a daughter of the late William Paxton and Eva Dougherty Mixell and the widow of Arthur Zane Rowe.
Mrs. Rowe was a housewife and a member of Assembly of God, Newville.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty Lowry of York, Mary Jones of Newville and Ruth Daihl of Newville; three sons, Paul of Gardners, Ray and Donald, both of Newville; a sister, Bernita Markley of Carlisle; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Egger Funeral Home, 15 Big Spring Road, Newville with the Rev. Jeffery Ketting officiating. Burial will be in Newville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruth I. Barbour, 78, of 200 Mill St., Mt. Holly Springs, died Thursday, July 17, 1997 at home.
Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, will announce arrangements when complete.

Services and burial with full police and military honors for Michael Donahoe, 73, of 301 Clemens Drive, Dillsburg, will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
He died Tuesday, July 15, 1997 in the Sarah Todd Home, Carlisle.
Born Oct. 12, 1923 in Monessen, he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna Mannelly Donahoe.
Mr. Donahoe was a retired major with the Pennsylvania State Police and served as director of community affairs. He was with the state police from 1946 to 1983 and also was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth A. Wylie Donahoe; two sons, Michael J. of Gardners and Jeffrey M. of York Springs; a daughter, Patricia A. Nixon of Lexington Ky.; a sister, Bridget Dzyak of Monessen; and two grandchildren.
Monsignor Leo N. Bierster will officiate at funeral services. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg is handling the arrangements.
