Frances N. Rupert

Frances N. Rupert, 82, of 1980 Route 405, Muncy, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born in the village of Leolyn on February 3, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Edna (Hurlbert) Barnes.

Frances was employed as a sander for 17 years with Rochelle Furniture Manufacturing of Montgomery, retiring in 2002. For many years she also worked at McDonald’s in South Williamsport, as well as working as a waitress at the Bower-Decker Post #251 American Legion in Montgomery, where she was a member of the ladies auxiliary.

She was also a member of the Muncy Valley Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #866 and the 40/8 S.O.L. Club in Williamsport. Frances was a sports enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed cheering for her favorites, the Philadelphia Eagles football team and driver Jeff Gordon on the NASCAR circuit. She also liked to go dancing and took several bus trips to Atlantic City.

Frances was a member of New Life Church, Pennsdale.

Surviving are one son, Larry M. Rupert, Sr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; two daughters, Charlotte L. Warner of Montgomery and Deborah A. Moore of Muncy; three brothers, Arthur Barnes of Roaring Branch and Elwin “But” Barnes and Steve Barnes, both of Canton; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by one sister, Cristina Saunders; one brother, Lawrence Barnes; and a great-great-grandson, Lawrence, who died in infancy.

Friends will be received on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Robert A. Lauver. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the New Life Church, 1006 Village Road, Pennsdale, PA 17756 or a charity of one’s choice.

Grace Jeanette (Ross) Thomas

Grace Jeanette (Ross) Thomas, 73, formerly of Broad Top City, PA, died Oct. 28, 2008, at Manor Care North, Williamsport, surrounded by her family. She was the founder and CEO of Son Light House, a Christian-based ministry in Muncy, feeding and clothing the poor in Central Pennsylvania for the past 25 years.

Funeral services with Brenda Palmer officiating were held at the Robertsdale Church of God, Robertsdale, PA, on Nov. 1. Interment was in the Broad Top I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City, PA.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Inc., Broad Top City.

Donald R. Osman

Donald R. Osman, 75, of Muncy Exchange Road, Muncy, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the Hospice Community Care inpatient unit in Wilkes-Barre.

Born January 27, 1933, at his parents’ home in Sunbury, he was a son of the late Lawrence H. and Pauline (Haas) Osman.

He and his wife of 55 years, the former Joyce E. Dyer, were married September 20, 1953.

Following graduation from Sunbury High School in 1950, he served as a B-29 and B-50 gunner in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Don attended the Williamsport Technical Institute and later graduated from Penn College with an Associate Degree in Business. Through the years he worked at the Watsontown Foundry, Sprout-Waldron, Ralph S. Alberts, and Schnadig International Furniture. He retired in 1990 from Koroseal Wall Protection, Muncy, where he worked as a pattern maker.

He was involved in scouting for 20 years, having served as a Cub Master and Scout Master. He was inducted into the Vigil Honor of Order of the Arrow and was the recipient of both the Silver Beaver Award and the Lamb Award, the highest Lutheran award for outstanding service to youth.

Don worked as a Weight Watcher leader for 20 years and enjoyed roller-blading, cross-country skiing, tennis, basketball, bicycling and jogging. He sang in several area church choirs and was a talented wood and plastics craftsman.

Don will fondly be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was always willing to help those in need.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Osman of Bandera, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Joseph Panzitta of Harding; five grandchildren, Bryson Osman and wife Sherry of Hughesville, Matthew Panzitta and Andrew Panzitta, both of Harding, Riley Osman of Oklahoma and McKenna Osman of Bandera, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Kaydins Osman of Hughesville; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Emma Jean Osman of Selinsgrove; and multiple nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Debra Carl of Sunbury. He is also survived by extended family members Kathy, Steve and Blake Whipple of Hughesville.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Colby Lucas Osman, and two brothers, Larry and Fred Osman.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 39 Paradise St., Turbotville, where the service will be held at noon with the Rev. Erwin C. Roux officiating.

The family prefers to provide the flowers and requests memorial contributions be made to either Heartland Hospice Services, 38 N. Main St., Pitttston, PA 18640 or Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704.

Arrangements are under the direction of Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Norma Marie Peterman

Norma Marie Peterman, 80, of Nordmont, died Sunday, Nov/ 2, 2008, at the Highlands Care Center.

Born Feb. 29, 1928, in Limestone Township, Montour County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin L. and Maude H. Golder Tanner.

Her husband of 56 years, Leonard L. Peterman, preceded her in death on July 30, 2008.

Mrs. Peterman was a member of the Rock Run Church, Muncy Valley. She was quite gifted at music and enjoyed playing several different musical instruments. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music, gardening and sewing.

She was a great seamstress and made most of her own clothing.

Surviving are three sons, David L. (Connie) Peterman, Roger W. (Debbie) Peterman and Scott L. Peterman, all of Nordmont; two daughters, Gail M. (Jim) McCarty of Colley and Susan F. Peterman of Dushore; a brother, Kenneth Tanner of Danville; a sister, Jean (Donald) Fry of Turbotville; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and one step-great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Harry and William Tanner; and two sisters, Thelma Williams and Maxine Maust.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Rock Run Church, Route 220, Muncy Valley, with the Rev. James W. Bechtel officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The family welcomes flowers; however, memorial contributions may also be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.

John D. Quinn

John D. “Jack” Quinn, Ph.D., age 69, of Muncy, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Milton and Frances Quinn.

He observed 45 years of marriage with his wife, Barbara.

A graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, he continued his education at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree, and at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, where he earned his Ph.D.

For 30 years Jack’s occupation was based in education. He currently was a college professor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport.

Jack was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Helena, John and wife Patricia, Elizabeth, Christine and David Quinn, and three grandchildren, Jacob, Alexander and Calista Quinn.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Milton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, at his church, the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Glenn McCreary. Burial will be held privately.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

The family requests that flowers not be sent. A memorial contribution to either St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, 1733 W. Girard Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19130 (www.sjprep.org) or Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Rd., Coconut Creek, FL 33073 (www.foodforthepoor.org) and reference source code 67175, would best honor his generous impulses.
