Edward E. Fish
BELLEVILLE - Edward E. Fish, 78, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of 226 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown, died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Valley View. Born April 1, 1922, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James F. and Ruth E. (Stimely) Fish. His wife, Betty J. (Bigelow) Fish, whom he married July 7, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Kerry T. (Martha L.) Rager, Reedsville; brother and sister, James F. Fish Jr., Sebastian, Fla. and Roxine Fish, Lewistown; foster brother, Darwin Scrathard, South Lake, Texas; and two grandchildren. He was a 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School. He had been employed at Overhead Door Corporation, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown and a life member of the Brooklyn Hose Company, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, NY 10032 or to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Alice J. Fisher
GRANVILLE - Alice J. Fisher, 85, of Jimmy Fisher Lane, Granville, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at her home. Born Sept. 18, 1916, in Derry, Westmoreland County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Catherine "Lena" (Plummer) Kelly, Sr.. Her husband, James O. Fisher, Sr., whom she married May 16, 1936, preceded her in death on April 5, 1981. Surviving are: children, David L. Fisher, Lewistown RD2, Kay H. Smith, Granville, Mrs. Warren (Marcy) Bowersox, Granville, and John S. Fisher, Lewistown RD2; a brother, Joseph A. Kelly, Jr., Nevada; 11 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, one grandchild forthcoming; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, James D. Fisher, Jr., in 1954; sisters, Gladys Gilbert and Edna Harshbarger; a grandson, James Leon Smith, in 2000; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a 1934 graduate of Lewistown High School. Early in life she worked at the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, and later was postmaster in Granville for 26 years, retiring in 1982. For many years she was active in the Granville United Methodist Church where she served the Lord in many capacities and was previously named Woman of the Year. She had also been a member of the Mifflin County Church Women United, and the Granville Fire Company Auxiliary, having served as Membership Secretary of the fire company. She helped with the Fresh Air Fund, served as a 4-H leader, Girl Scout leader, and secretary of the Fisher Family Reunion for 49 years. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Mark Brower officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice-The Bridge, 1126 West Fourth St., Lewistown, Pa 17044.

Betty (Meshyock) Fisher
Betty (Meshyock) Fisher, 73, of Baltimore, MD, and a native of Six Mile Run, died Oct. 25, 2001. Born July 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Meshyock. Her husband, Merle Fisher, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Margaret and Patricia; a stepson, Merle Jr.; and one sister and five brothers. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services were held in Baltimore, MD.

Carl I. Fisher
TAVARES, FLA. - Carl I. Fisher, 84, of 648 Marina Lane, Tavares, Fla., formerly of Newton-Hamilton and Mount Union, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his residence. Born April 21, 1916, in Alexandria, he was a son of the late Newton and Susan E. (Bumgardner) Fisher. His wife, Mamie L. (Enyeart) Fisher, whom he married Dec. 13, 1935, preceded him in death on July 3, 1996. Surviving are: children, Ned H. Fisher and Carol Sue Poston, both of Tavares, Fla., and Mrs. John (Janet) Fetrow, McVeytown RD1; a brother, Merle Fisher, Baltimore, MD; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in two enlistments, one in the United States Army, and the other in the United States Navy. He had been employed in law enforcement until his retirement, having been Chief of Police in Williamsburg, a guard at the Baltimore City Jail and a security officer at Juniata College, Huntingdon. He was a Protestant by faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a life-member of the F & AM Lodge No. 109 Mystic Circle, Elkridge, MD, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment will be in the Newton-Hamilton Cemetery, Newton-Hamilton. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service by the F & AM Lodge No. 688 of Mount Union will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Norman 'Normie' Fisher
RICHFIELD - Norman "Normie" Fisher, 98, of the Zendt Home, Richfield, formerly of Richfield RR1, West Perry Township, Snyder County, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Jan. 29, 1903 in West Perry Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late William Clinton Albennent "Al" and Mary Emma (Frantz) Fisher. Surviving are: eight nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilson, Sterril and Guy Fisher, and sisters, Rosebella Graybill and Sylvia Bitner, and several nieces. He attended the Cherry Hill Grammar Schoolhouse in West Perry Township, Snyder County. He worked as a laborer at area farms and sawmills, and worked in the woods, retiring in 1950. He was attended the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness, Beavertown. He was a member of the Richfield Ambulance League, Richfield. He was an avid hunter and animal liver, and he enjoyed gathering and cracking various nuts. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Samuel D. Jordan officiating. Interment will be in Dressler's Ridge United Methodist Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home. Pearl E. Fisher
BOWIE, TX - Pearl E. Fisher, formerly of 7 Shaw Ave., Lewistown, most recently residing at her son's residence in Bowie, TX, until entering the Bellmire Healthcare Facility in Bowie, TX, a year ago, graduated to her eternal home at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at the healthcare facility. Born in Ferguson Valley, Derry Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Emery H. and Ida F. (Rickabaugh) Knepp. Her husband, J. Sylvester Fisher, died Aug. 26, 1984. She is survived by a son, J. Duane Fisher and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Bowie, TX. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. She was a graduate of Lancaster Business College. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. Her service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with her son, J. Duane Fisher officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call 9 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

Raymond A. Fisher
LEWISTOWN &endash; Raymond A. Fisher, 85, of 125 Montgomery Avenue, Lewistown, died at10:20 a.m. Sunday at the Lewistown Hospital. Born August 29, 1916, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Harry A. Fisher and Vera (Bender) Fisher. His wife, Betty Mae (Sower) Fisher, preceded him in death. He is survived by a niece, Marlene Burkholder of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He worked as a watchmaker early in life, then had 25 years of service at Ruhl's Clothing Store. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of Elks #663. He served in the United States Army in World War II. His funeral service is at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, with the Reverend Gerald Krum officiating. Interment will be in the Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Viewing will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jane Ann (Hess) Flanders
PELHAM, NY - Jane Ann (Hess) Flanders, 61, of 1 Hazen St., Pelham, NY, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, in her home following an extended illness. Born March 26, 1940 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Margaret S. (Schroyer) Hess of Belleville and Waynesboro and the late Leslie M. Hess, who died in October 1999. Her husband, Steven Flanders, whom she married July 9, 1966 in Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, survives. She is also survived by children, Kathryn Ryan, Providence, RI, Elinor Flanders, Chicago, Ill., and Benjamin Flanders, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, John A. Hess, Weston, Conn. and William L. Hess, Abilene, Texas; and one grandson. She graduated from the Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1958 as a National Merit Scholar. She received her B.A. in Music from Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, in 1962 and her M.A. in English Literature in 1966 from Columbia University, New York City, NY. She was a teacher and author. She was author of three collections of poetry and a fourth that she was preparing for publication. Her work appeared in dozens of publications, including The Atlantic, Commonweal, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Paris Review, Poetry, and the Quarterly Review of Literature. Her teaching career included seventh grade English in Honolulu, Hawaii to graduate students. In 1991, she was chosen to serve as Elliston Poet in residence at the University of Cincinnati and has taught literature and writing at Clark University, Worcester, Maine, the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY, the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, and Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY. She received numerous awards for her work, including the Discovery Award, the Juniper Prize and several Pushcart Prizes and Fellowships from the Djerassi Foundation, the MacDowell Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Graveside services were held in the Green Hill Cemetery Waynesboro, with the Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, was in charge of the arrangements.
