Dorothy E. Harpster
WELLSBORO - Dorothy E. Harpster, 95, of Wellsboro, died on Friday, August 17, 2001 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Born on Feb. 25, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Jackson and Pearlah Biddle Harpster. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Foreman, Mansfield, and Helen Finkbeiner, Lewistown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Wendell Harpster; and two sisters, Wilma Wood and Grace Ives. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield. She was a 1928 graduate of Dickenson College and earned her M.A. in English from Columbia University in 1934. She was retired as an English professor at Shippensburg University and her teaching career spanned 44 years. She previously taught at the Faithful Toilers Sunday School Class at Christ United Methodist Church, Shippensburg. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women, a life member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Educational Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority International. Services will be held at the Gary Wilston Funeral Home, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joyce Treas officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Philipsburg Cemetery, Philipsburg. Memorial contributions can be made to: Quincy United Methodist Home, 6596 Orphanage Rd., Quincy, PA, 17247. Dorothy served on the home's Board of Directors for 15 years.

Mary Belle Harpster
BEAVER SPRINGS - Mary Belle Harpster, 76, of 6 Chestnut St., Beaver Springs, formerly of Eighth Street, Lewistown, died at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born April 19, 1925 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Grace (Buchanan) Morrison. Her first husband, William B. Kearns Jr., preceded her in death in 1963, and her second husband, Wilbur F. Harpster, preceded her in death in 1999. Surviving are: children, Lynn K. Kearns, McClure RD1 and Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Hoy, McClure RD3; step-children, George E. Harpster, Lewistown, Mrs. Kent (Barbara) Kinsey, Berryville, VA, David K. Harpster, Pleasant Gap and Christopher L. Harpster, Kingsport, TN; a sister, Mrs. William (Audrey) Bell, Lewistown RD3; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John C. Morrison, William H. Morrison and Charles D. Morrison. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Burnham, and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lewistown Chapter No. 283. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Lawvers Cemetery in Decatur Township, Mifflin County. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Renna Mae Harpster
SIGLERVILLE - Renna Mae Harpster, 70, of 1093 Locke Mills Road, Milroy, died at 3:42 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at her residence. Born Aug. 29, 1930, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late Grant A. and Helen M. (Hassinger) Ramsey. Her husband, Melvin K. Harpster, whom she married Jan. 25, 1957, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. John (Melanie) Tedeschi, Wexford, Mrs. Sidney (Denise A.) Hile, Milroy and Todd R. Harpster, Reedsville; a sister, Mrs. Lester (Joanne) Carson, Reedsville; and five grandchildren. She was a 1948 graduate of Milroy High School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Siglerville, the Happy Hour Sunday School Class of the church and an active member of the Christian Womens' Club. She was also president of the Aid Association for Lutherans, Branch 9649 and active with Meals on Wheels. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Siglerville, with Pastor Rosalie N. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Lutheran Church, 51 Maclay St., Milroy, PA 17063 or to HOSPICE: the Bridge, 1126 West Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel D. Harshbarger
BELLEVILLE - Daniel D. Harshbarger, 89, of 2384 SR 655, Belleville, died at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Valley View Haven Nursing Home. Born Sept. 10, 1911, in Mattawana, he was a son of the late Abram and Pearl (Shelley) Harshbarger. His wife, Tilma S. (Byler) Harshbarger, whom he married on April 11, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. David (Pauline) Esch of Allensville, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Harshbarger, and a sister, Sarah Auker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in Northern France and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a taxi driver for the Amish. He was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church, the Golden Age Sunday School Class, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and volunteer work. His service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allensville Mennonite Church with the Rev. Philip Barr and the Rev. Nelson Roth officiating. Interment will be Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allensville Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 35, Allensville, PA 17002. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.

Emory F. Harshbarger
MATTAWANA - Emory F. Harshbarger, 100, of Mattawana, died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Open Door Personal Care Home, Mattawana. Born Dec. 16, 1900, in Oliver Township, he was a son of the late Francis B. and Phoebe E. (Hartzler) Harshbarger. His wife, Magdelene C. (Hewel) Harshbarger, died July 26, 1986. He is survived by three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman H. Harshbarger and a sister, Bertha Yoder. He was employed as a metal inspector at Standard Steel, Burnham, retiring Oct. 1, 1965. He was a member of the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, Belleville. He enjoyed playing the violin and the mandolin. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. John M. Keefer officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 81 Wagner St., Belleville, PA 17004.

Faye M. Harshman
LEWISTOWN - Faye M. Harshman, 78, of 8 Winding Way, Lewistown, died Saturday morning, March 10, 2001, at her residence. Born March 1, 1923, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Maurice J. and Pearl (Ripka) Long. She is survived by: children, Ronald C. Harshman, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Ray (Roxann) Aumiller and Roberta Harshman, both of Lewistown; sisters, Ellie Kramer and Lestie E. Long, both of Milroy; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Clarence R. Long and Mildred Havice. She retired from Avtex Fibers, Lewistown. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, with the Rev. Kenneth Longfield officiating. There will be no viewing. Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, is in charge of arrangements.

M. Elizabeth H. Hart
MANHEIM - M. Elizabeth H. Hart, 87, formerly of Manheim, died of natural causes Monday, July 23, 2001, at Landis Homes, Lititz, where she had lived since 1985. Born in Kinzers, she was the daughter of the late Willis W. and Margaret (Wenger) Kreider. Her husband, Jacob H. Hart, died in 1961. Surviving are: children, Mrs. John G. (Eileen M.) Landis, Lebanon, Mrs. John R. (Virginia F.) Saner, Mifflin, Mrs. Paul (Carlene A.) Althouse, New Providence, and Dervin C. Hart, Manheim; sisters, Mrs. Frank (Kathryn) Hershey, Lititz, Mrs. Chester (Arlene) Sensenig, Intercourse and Margaret Denlinger; 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois K. Hart; four brothers, Wilmer, Lloyd, Leroy and Lester Kreider; and by one great-grandson. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Gingrich's Mennonite Church, Lebanon, where she belonged to the sewing circle and was once a junior high Sunday school teacher. She and her husband organized Elm Street Mennonite Church, Lebanon in 1955. She was also active with the Lancaster County chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She enjoyed sewing. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Gingrich's Mennonite Church, 100 Forney Road, Lebanon, with ministers, John G. Landis, John R. Saner and Robert Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church Cemetery. Friends may call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, Bethany East Chapel, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543. The Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market St., Manheim, is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Jean Hartley
MCVEYTOWN - Bonnie Jean Hartley, 57, of 697 Kansas Road, McVeytown, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 26, 1944, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Ralph M. and Betty G. (Kauffman) Hassinger. Her husband, Edward N. Hartley, whom she married Sept. 22, 1962, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Nelson E. Hartley, Lewistown and his children, Tyler, Justin, Blake and Brock, and Gary D. Hartley, State College and wife, Julie, and children, Jessica, Megan and Ryan; a daughter, Mrs. John (Kathy) Kohler, Duncannon and children, Kathy, Alicia and Dustin; brothers and sisters, Terry Hassinger, Dauphin, Dana Hassinger, McClure, Ralph M. Hassinger Jr., Lewistown, Mrs. Allen (Kathy) Lowery, Julian, Darryl Hassinger, Grantville, and Dwayne Hassinger, Grantville. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. In her early life, she was a nursing assistant at William Penn Nursing Home, Lewistown, then a home care nurse at SUN Home Health, Lewistown and later a cook for Pittsburgh Company North, Pittsburgh, before retiring due to disability from the Super 8 Motel, Lewistown. She was a member of Pleasant Acres Assembly of God Church, Lewistown. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Acres Assembly of God Church, Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Couts officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, and from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Lewistown Home Health Care Services, c/o Lewistown Hospital, 400 Highland Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
