Dorothy H. Hartley
BALTIMORE, Md. - Dorothy H. Hartley, 88, of 418 Dunkirk Road, Baltimore, Md., formerly of Lewistown, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Long Green Center, Baltimore, MD. Born April 25, 1912, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Milton and Mary Ellen (Baughman) Hartley. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. She was a licensed practical nurse at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C., for 18 1/2 years, retiring due to disability. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Robert E. Hartley
LEWISTOWN - Robert E. Hartley, 74, of 52 Forsythe Lane, Lewistown, died at 5:25 a.m., Friday, July 13, 2001, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown. Born on August 6, 1926, in Vira, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Grace A. (Bingman) Hartley. His wife, Delores (Thatcher) Hartley, whom he married on May 5, 1948, survives. Also surviving are: three brothers, William Hartley, of Dade City, FL, Richard Hartley, Burnham, Melvin Hartley, Tonawanda, NY; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Hartley Jr., who died in 1994. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was involved in the European Theater during World War II. He retired on September 1, 1991, after working 28 years as a forklift operator for Sanyo Audio, Reedsville. He was a member of the Salvation Army in Lewistown. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. The family will provide all flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 9 South Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA, 17044. Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dean S. Hartman
CAMP HILL - Dean S. Hartman, 77, of Camp Hill, formerly of Lewistown, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Harrisburg Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1924, in State College, he was a son of the late Clyde B. and Mary (Wands) Hartman. His wife, Joan C. (Cook) Hartman of Camp Hill, survives. He is also survived by children, Dee A. Scarlato of Etters and Jeffrey L. Hartman of Canton, Ohio, and five grandchildren. He was the only three-time All-American, single sport athlete for soccer at Penn State. He was a member of the Penn State Hall of Fame. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a former track and soccer coach for Lewistown High School and was the assistant secretary for the Department of Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Robert Burns Lodge 464, Harrisburg. He was an avid hunter and angler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill, with the Rev. Dr. J. Stewart Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township, with full military honors provided by the Linglestown American Legion.

William L. "Bud" Hartman, Jr.
LEWISTOWN - William L. "Bud" Hartman, Jr., 79, of Seventh Street, Highland Park, Lewistown, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at Lewistown Hospital. Born August 13, 1921 in Millerstown, he was the son of the late W. Lawrence, Sr. and Revetta P. (Rapp) Hartman. Surviving are: children, Thomas R. Hartman, Lewistown, Mrs. Barry (Cynthia) Brehman, Lewistown; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the last of the immediate family, and was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Kauffman and an infant brother. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps, 391st Bomb Group in the European Theatre. He was employed in the spinning department of the American Viscose Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 1972. He was later employed at the Busy Beaver Building Center and Allensville Planing Mill, Inc. for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 942 in McClure, VFW 7011 of Lewistown, UCT Council 591, Air Force Association, and a life member of the City Hook and Ladder Fire Company, the Yeagertown Fire Company and the A.A.R.P. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 103 Sixth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Barbara J. Hartsock
LEWISTOWN - Barbara J. Hartsock, 52, of 33 Grapevine Lane, Lewistown, died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at her residence. Born May 15, 1949, in Valley Forge, she was the daughter of the late John W. Kennedy and the late Ann (Bell) Davis. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Harry and Carry Kennedy. Her husband, Carl L. Hartsock, whom she married Oct. 3, 1970, survives. Also surviving are: children, Tracy Bottorff, Philadelphia, Krystie Bottorff, Belleville and Steven Hartsock, South Hill, VA; stepchildren, Carl L. Hartsock Jr. and April Hardin, both of Lewistown; a brother, Harry Kennedy, State College; half brothers, Donald Kennedy, Ricky Kennedy, Glen Burnie, MD, John Kennedy, Lewistown and Brian Kennedy, Maryland; four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. She was a bookkeeper for Carpet and Furniture World, Lewistown for the past four years. Previously, she had worked at Scotty's Fashion for 17 years. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's ELC, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Private interment will be held at Juniata Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth Street, Lewistown, PA 17044. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eva R. Hartzler
HUNTINGDON - Eva R. Hartzler, PhD., 90, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360 Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, formerly of 2014 Washington St., Huntingdon, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at The Oaks, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 24, 1911, in Longreen, MD, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Anna Mary (King) Hartzler. She is survived by a twin sister, Ethel N. Hartzler, Valley View Haven, Belleville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers, H. Harold Hartzler, Mrs. Kenneth (Carrie) Dodd, John M. Hartzler, and C. Clayton Hartzler. She was a 1928 graduate of Belleville High School and graduated in 1932 from Juniata College with a B.S. in chemistry. She received her M.S. in chemistry and her PhD. in bio-chemistry from the Pennsylvania State College in 1933 and 1950, respectively. She was employed as a professor of bio-chemistry at Juniata College from 1950 until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. She was also a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the American Chemical Society; the Standing Stone Garden Club of Huntingdon; the Sierra Club; the Wilderness Society; the National Parks and Conservation Association; the Council for a Liveable World; and the Union of Concerned Scientists. She loved flower gardening and hiking. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be in the Allensville Amish and Mennonite Cemetery, Allensville, Menno Township, Mifflin County. There will be no viewing or visitation. The John B. Brown Funeral Home Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth E. "Bette" Hassinger
LEWISTOWN - Elizabeth E. "Bette" Hassinger, 82, of Juniata Terrace, died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in the Ohesson Manor Nursing Home. Born Sept. 1, 1919, in Defiance she was the daughter of the late David B. and Rachel (Fry) Bland. She was the wife of the late Daniel S. Hassinger, who died on March 6, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Dana E.) Frye of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, David C. Hassinger of Harrisburg and Thomas D. Hassinger of Burnsville, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Beulah) Foster of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. She was employed as a sales clerk by Danks & Co. and attended First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Golden Age Club, Pensioneers, and F. W. Black Senior Citizens Center and was judge of elections at Juniata Terrace for many years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to First Baptist Church, 111 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Warren H. Haubert
PORT ROYAL - Warren H. Haubert, 79, of 408 Tuscarora St., Port Royal, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown. Born June 21, 1921, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Ralph George and Laura Edna (Frye) Haubert. His wife, Hazel Louise (Dressler) Haubert, died in 1993. Surviving are: children, Warren H. "Cook" Haubert Jr., Richfield RR1, Mrs. Alfred (Sandy) Jamison, McAlisterville RR1, Mrs. Gary (Bonita) Beale, Chesapeake, Va., Marvin E. "Gene" Haubert, Cocolamus, Mrs. Jay (Joanne) Guyer Jr., McAlisterville, Gerald M. "Mike" Haubert, Mifflintown, and David S. Haubert, Thompsontown; sisters and brother, Edna M. Singer, Thompsontown, Grace M. Gilpin, Billings, Mont., Marlin L. Haubert, Mount Pleasant Mills, and Ruby R. Horning, McAlisterville; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a truck driver for Juniata Concrete. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Maze. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Ronald S. Nipple officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
