Born Oct. 28, 1923, in East Earl Township, Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late John N. and Ada (Burkholder) Nolt Hoover. Her husband, Amos Nolt Hoover, whom she married Dec. 10, 1942, in East Earl Township, died Jan. 23, 1998. She is survived by children, Joseph H. Hoover, Allen H. Hoover, John H. Hoover, Amos H. Hoover Jr., Mrs. Phares (Anna H.) Horning, all of Mifflinburg RR1, Raymond H. Hoover, Dundee, NY, Lewis H. Hoover, Millmont RR1, Mrs. Jonathan H. (Ada H.) Martin, New Holland, Mrs. Eli M. (Nora H.) Martin, Mrs. Raymond N. (Edna H.) Weaver, Mrs. Edward H. (Lucy H.) Martin, all of Millmont RR2, Mrs. Carl L. (Verna H.) Duke, Mifflinburg RR4, Mrs. Wesley E. (Alice H.) King, Belleville, Mrs. Steve A. (Minnie H.) Peachey, Reedsville, Mrs. Joseph M. (Etta H.) Zimmerman, Dorchester, Wis., and Mrs. Edward Z. (Louella H.) Zimmerman, South Africa; brothers and sisters, Paul N. Hoover, East Earl, Walter N. Hoover, Narvon, Isaac N. Hoover, Missouri, John A. Hoover, Wisconsin, Ivan M. Hoover, Shippensburg, Mrs. Aaron N. (Esther N.) Hoover, Leola, Mrs. Isaac M. (Emma N.) Burkholder, Kutztown, Henry M. Hoover, Mrs. Amos W. (Lydia N.) Hoover, Fannie M. Hoover, Elizabeth M. Hoover, and Eva M. Hoover, all of New Holland; 95 grandchildren and 108 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter on Nov. 23, 1951; a sister, Lena N. Reiff; and a brother, Eli M. Hoover. She attended the West Terre Hill School. She was a member of the Mountain View Old Order Mennonite Church, Millmont RR2. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Phares Z. Horning residence, Mensch Road, Mifflinburg, RR1, with further services at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Old Order Mennonite Church, Kaiser Run Road, Millmont RR2. Officiating will be Bishop Levi N. Martin, Esra M. Zimmerman, Amos W. Nolt, Phares L. Zimmerman and Irvin H. Zimmerman. Interment will be in the Mountain View Old Order Mennonite Church Cemetery, Lewis Township, Union County. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Phares Z. Horning residence. Please omit flowers. The James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Hoover
MCVEYTOWN - John E. Hoover, 81, of 3795 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, formerly of Paxtonia area, died at 2:11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 14, 1919, in Lykens, Dauphin County, he was the son of the late Paul C. and Lizzie M. (Klinger) Hoover. His wife, Mary Ellen (Howard) Hoover, survives. Also surviving are: children, John E. Hoover Jr., Easton and Bonita L. Boyer, McVeytown; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired electrician from Herre Brothers, Harrisburg. He was a member of IBEW Union, Harrisburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hoover Funeral Homes Inc., Elizabethville. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Samuel L. "Goose" Horning Jr.
ALLENSVILLE - Samuel L. "Goose" Horning Jr., 51, of 144 East Main St., Allensville, died at 7:53 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 30, 1950, in Lewistown, he was the son of Samuel L. and Cartes (Smoker) Horning Sr. of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown. His wife, Crystal (Ruble) Horning, whom he married on May 25, 1990, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Samuel T. Horning, at home, a step-son, Wayne G. Tankersley, at home, adopted children, Michael Horning, State College, Matthew Horning, McVeytown, and Jodi Horning, Dillsburg; sisters, Mrs. Terry (Mary Jo) Johnson, Fishers, IN, Jane H. Zook, Reedsville; and three adopted grandchildren. He was a 1969 graduate of Lewistown High School. Early in life he worked for Marlette Homes and later as a construction worker for Lane Construction Corp., Meriden, CT. He was a Methodist by faith and a member of Laborers International Union Local #910. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Bernice L. Hosler
MCCLURE - Bernice L. Hosler, 61, of US Highway 522 North, McClure, died at 8:32 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born March 4, 1939, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Carrie (Adams) Walter. Her husband, Paul R. Hosler Jr., whom she married Feb. 14, 1987, survives. Her first husband, Thomas Shartzer Sr., whom she married in 1958, died in 1982. Also surviving are: children, Vicki L. Shartzer, South Mountain, Dawn Hopple, McClure, Christina A. Hosler, Montandon, Adam Hosler, Lewistown, and Robert Hosler Sr., McAlisterville; brother and sisters, Bruce Walter, Lewistown, Fay Johnson, Lakeland, Fla., and Betty Aurand, McVeytown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Glenn Walter, Donald Walter and Lois Setzler. She was a 1957 graduate of Lewistown High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Russell National Bank, Lewistown from 1972-1990 and at Lewistown Trust form 1990-1997. She was Baptist by faith. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 107, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Charles Eldredge, Dan Helenick and Carlton Schooley officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will be present 7-9 p.m.

Virginia A. Hosler
SPRUCE HILL - Virginia A. Hosler, 88, of Spruce Hill, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Brookline Manor. She was the widow of Lee Boyd Hosler. Surviving are: two daughters, three brothers, four sisters, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Her service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. Interment will be in the Academia Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m.Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Meals on Wheels, 9 Cross St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Esle Noah Hostetler
BELLEVILLE - Esle Noah Hostetler, 8, of 582 Barrville Road, Belleville, died at 10:58 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, at his residence as a result of injuries suffered in a horse riding accident. Born Jan. 1, 1993, in Juniata County, he was the son of Solomon Z. and Nancy Ruth (Yoder) Hostetler of 582 Barrville Road, Belleville. Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Mrs. Dan (Lena) Yoder, Reedsville, Anna Hostetler, Moses S. Hostetler, Barbara N. Hostetler, Elizabeth D. Hostetler, Nancy R. Hostetler, and Solomon E. Hostetler, all at home. He was preceded in death by one sister. He was a student and a member of the Old Order Amish. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Green Lane Amish Cemetery, Brown Township. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Harvey J. Hostetler
BELLEVILLE - Harvey J. Hostetler, 84, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, formerly of McAlevy's Fort, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Valley View Haven. Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Belleville, he was the son of the late John Y. and Katie E. (Yoder) Hostetler. His wife, Willa (Wilson) Hostetler of 232 Hartzler Drive, Belleville, whom he married Oct. 25, 1939, survives. Also surviving are: children, Beverly H. Miller and Mrs. James (Berdella) Elliot, both of West Linn, Ore., and Richard O. Hostetler, Bradenton, Fla.; sisters and brothers, Mary Yoder, Esther Stuter, Helen Peachey, Mrs. Harvey (Stepha) Hostetler, Herbert Wilson, all of Belleville, and Harold Wilson, Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Hostetler. He was a 1935 graduate of Belleville High School. He was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in the China Burma India (CBI) Theatre. He retired in 1970 after 30 years of service and was a command pilot with over 15,000 flying hours. He was one of the last American military to leave China before the Chinese Communists came to power. An early pioneer in aviation in Central Pennsylvania, he was also one of the former owners of the Mifflin County Airport, and the executive pilot for two governors of Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Flying Farmers, Quiet Birdman, and the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon and served on the building committee, as an usher, and on the official board. He was also a member of the McVeytown Lodge F&AM 376; the Harrisburg Consistory; Sojouner; a charter member of Stroup Alexander VFW in Belleville; former member of McAlevy's Fort Civic Association; and the Boy Scouts of America, Juniata Valley Council. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville, with ministers, Peter Naschke and Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville, where Stroup Alexander VFW Post 5935, Belleville will conduct military rites. Friends may call 6:30-9 p.m. today at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville and 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at Valley View Haven. A masonic service will be held at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Parkinson Center of Oregon OSHU, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

Isaac M. Hostetler
REEDSVILLE - Isaac M. Hostetler, 72, of 80 Harvest Lane, Reedsville, died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2001, at his residence. Born Feb. 18, 1928, in Brown Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Jonathan Y. and Nancy F. (Yoder) Hostetler. Surviving are: brothers and sisters, Moses T. Hostetler, Milroy and Mrs. Isaac (Leah) Yoder, Jonathan R. Hostetler and Noah Y. Hostetler, all of Reedsville. He was a self-employed blacksmith. He was a member of the Old Order Amish. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Green Lane Amish Cemetery, Brown Township. Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
