PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Josephine K. Burke, 81, of 20194 Susan Ave., Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Lewistown, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her residence. Born Nov. 10, 1919, in Uniontown, she was the daughter of the late Martin R. and Sarah Jane (Drake) Burke. She is survived by brothers and sisters, Martin A. Burke, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, Mrs. H. Ray (Mary) Confer, 610 Erie Drive, Belleville, Donald Burke, Oklahoma City, Okla., Edward R. Burke, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Bruce (Shirley) Brumbaugh, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Richard L. Burke, Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert L. "Sonny" Burke; sisters, Louise Crownover, Lucille E. Brehman, and Thelma Shuey. She retired from the U.S. Government as an auditor for the IRS. She was Methodist by faith. She was a member of the NARFE Chapter 754, Charlotte County; the Chapter DAR, Charlotte County; the Genealogical Society, Charlotte County; and the PC Users Group Inc. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Karen L. McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Wilbert L. 'Sonny' Burke
MILROY - Wilbert L. "Sonny" Burke, 74, of 12 Maclay St., Milroy, died at 10:18 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Uniontown, he was a son of the late Martin R. and Sarah Jane (Drake) Burke. His wife, T. Louise (Gilbert) Burke, whom he married Jan. 1, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Val Joe Burke, 622 Highland Ave., Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Martin A. Burke, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, Donald Burke, Oklahoma City, Okla., Josephine Burke and Mrs. Bruce (Shirley) Brumbaugh, both of Port Charlotte, Fla., Mrs. H. Ray (Mary) Confer, 610 Erie Drive, Belleville, Richard L. Burke, Cinncinnati, Ohio, and Edward R. Burke, Duluth, Minn.; one granddaughter and one step-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Crownover, Lucille Brehman and Thelma Shuey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart. Early in life, he worked for the American Viscose Corporation and later for the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1972. After retirement, he worked in the finance department of Standard Steel. He also owned and operated Burke's Cutrate Drugstore in Milroy from 1964 to 1972. He was a member of the Siglerville Congregational Church and most recently attended Trinity United Church of Christ. He was also an Armagh Township supervisor for the last 16 years; township road supervisor for the last eight years; chairman of the Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority; member of the Mifflin County Planning Commission; a board member of the Standard Steel Credit Union; member of the Armagh-Brown school board; president of the Mifflin County Association of Township Officials; a life member of BPOE Lodge 663; a member of the McVeytown Masonic Lodge; a member of the 43rd Infantry Division Veterans Association and a member of the Milroy Fire Company. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dean Bobb officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy, where military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity UCC, 20 Oak St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Thelma M. Burton
BELLEVILLE - Thelma M. Burton, 87, of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of Honeybrook, Reedsville, died at 9:11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2000, at the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 20, 1912, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Robert James Earl and Mary Catherine (Marks) Taylor. Surviving are: a daughter, Gladys B. Grove, Pittsburgh, brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Goss, Leola, Henry J. Taylor, Quincy, Evelyn LeMay, Yeagertown, Patsy L. Miller, Reedsville and Marjorie R. Nickel, Burnham; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marsha M. Grove, and three sisters and three brothers. She attended Reedsville High School, graduating in 1931. She worked at Suburban Gas Company, and retired as the head bookkeeper from Lewistown Gas Company. She also volunteered in the Gift Shoppe at Lewistown Hospital. She was a member of Reedsville United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a member of Dorcas Sunday School, having taught the primary classes at the church early in life. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reedsville United Methodist Church, 60 E. Logan St., Reedsville with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N.Main St., Reedsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Reedsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 235, Reedsville, Pa. 17084, or to Valley View Retirement Community, 4702 E.Main St., Belleville, Pa. 17004-9251.

Ruth S. Butterworth
LEWISTOWN - Ruth S. Butterworth, 81, of 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born April 26, 1919, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Alice (Ricketts) Smith. Her husband, Earl A. Butterworth Sr., whom she married in 1937, survives. Also surviving are: children, Barbara Deavor, Mrs. John (Martha) Buckwalter, Mrs. Eugene (Darla) Wheeler, and Earl Butterworth Jr., all of Lewistown; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. She was a housewife. She was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Bruce Hinderliter officiating. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Anthony W. Byler
MECHANICSBURG - Anthony W. Byler, 35, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Belleville, died Saturday morning, July 29, 2000, at his residence. Born Feb. 25, 1965 in Lewistown, he was a son of Robert C. Byler of Belleville, and Jane E. (Peachey) Diffenderfer of Harrisonburg, Va. Also surviving are: two sisters; Mrs. David (Jo) Downing, Conway, S.C. and Mrs. David (Tammy) Burman, Harrisonburg, Va., a step-mother; Shirley A. Yoder Byler, Belleville, a step-father; James W. Diffenderfer, Harrisonburg, Va., and a number of step-brothers and step-sisters. He was employed as a tool design draftsman by Gatter and Deihl of Harrisburg. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Watts Memorial United Methodist Church, Walnut Street, Belleville, with the Rev. Larry Siikanen officiating. Interment will be in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Watts Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 866, Belleville, PA 17004.

Dorothy D. Calvert
CARLISLE - Dorothy D. Calvert, 89, of Choate Way, Carlisle, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Her husband, Jefferson B. Calvert, preceded her in death. Surviving are: children, John J. Calvert, Alexandria, Va., William J. Calvert, Duncannon, and Jeffrey S. Calvert, Westerville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Deacon. She was a secretary for the Presbyterian Board of Pension and a former tax collector in Rose Valley Borough. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle. She was a member and past president of her chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire. She was also a charter member of the Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle, where she was a resident. A memorial service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association-Capital Region Division Office, 1019 Mumma Road, Suite 200, Wormleysburg, PA 17043. The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg is in charge of arrangements.

Miriam F. Camp
BEAVERTOWN - Miriam F. Camp, 90, of Beavertown RR1, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital. Born Jan. 6, 1910, in Limestone Township, Union County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Raymond and Annie Pearl (Roush) Finsterbush. Her husband, Stanley Camp, preceded her in death on June 3, 1972. She is survived by sisters and brother, Evelyn M. Finsterbush, Mifflinburg, Jean Beaton, Woodward and Robert E. Finsterbush, Mifflinburg RR1 and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant children; four sisters, Blanche K. Valentine, Anna Frances Finsterbush, Stella P. Maxfield, Lydia A. Camp; and four brothers, Charles R., Leon E., George I. and Lawrence E. Finsterbush. She worked for many years at the former Middleburg Silk Mill, retiring in 1972. She attended St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Beavertown RR1. She enjoyed crocheting. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Beavertown chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Thomas Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Independent Church Cemetery, Beavertown RR1. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Child Evangelism Fellowship of Snyder and Union Counties, PO Box 38, Middleburg, PA 17842.

Thelma R. Campbell
SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP - Thelma R. Campbell, 86, of Silver Spring Township, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at West Shore Health and Rehab Center, East Pennsboro Township. Born July 13, 1913, in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Edith (Miller) Atkins. Her husband, Robert S. Campbell, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a daughter, Joanne C. Ramsey, Mechanicsburg; three grandsons and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah McCoach. She was an employee of the former Campbell's Bar and Grill, Lewistown, which was owned by her parents. She was a member of the Lewistown Baptist Church and was active with the Girl Scout Council of Mifflin County. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
