F. Holmes Cathrall Jr.
CENTRE HALL - F. Holmes Cathrall Jr., 78, of Centre Hall, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at his residence. Born June 15, 1922, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Dr. F. H. and Mabel (McCuben) Cathrall Sr. His wife, Emily (Northup) Cathrall, whom he married May 19, 1945, died March 15, 1995. Surviving are: a companion, Catherine Mannino, Centre Hall; a daughter, Linda A. Thomas, Attleboro Falls, Mass.; sister and brother, Nancy Eaton, Cambridge, Mass. and John Cathrall, Colorado; and two grandchildren. He graduated from Blair Academy Prep School, Blairstown, N. J., where he set a New Jersey State pole vault record and was named to three All State Basketball Teams, and played tennis and football. He also graduated from Colgate University in 1947, where he earned four varsity letters in basketball, track, and tennis. He earned a Purple Heart, while serving as captain in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was the men's tennis coach at Penn State University for nearly 30 years, beginning in 1965. As tennis coach, he led the Lions to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship, the first team title in the 59 year history of tennis at Penn State at that time. He also served as an assistant basketball coach and as a health and fitness education instructor for many years at Penn State. He was a member of BPOE Lodge 1600, State College and was an avid sports enthusiast, especially racket sports; antique collector and dealer. He was involved with the Dairyland Antique Center, Reedsville and helped to organize the annual State College Antique Show. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Eisenhower Chapel on Penn State Campus, with the Rev. Thomas Raymond Searfoss officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College. Friends may call immediately following the service Friday in the memorial lounge of Eisenhower Chapel. Vera Mae Cauffman
BLAIN - Vera Mae Cauffman, 74, of Blain RR1, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home. Born Nov. 14, 1925, in Blain, she was the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Zella R. (Book) Wilt. Her husband, Lawrence R. Cauffman, survives. Also surviving are: children, Jo Anne Bair, Landisburg RR1, Dennis R. Cauffman, Blain RR1, and Brian R. Cauffman, Blain; brothers, Gene Wilt, Blain and David Wilt, Loysville; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Wilt and a sister, Elizabeth Trout. She assisted her husband in farming. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Blain and was a member of the choir. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion United Church of Christ, Blain, with the Rev. John Kipp and the Rev. Paul Gehris officiating. Interment will be in the Blain Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the church. Dio K. Chamberlin
ORLANDO, Fla. - Dio K. Chamberlin, 68, of 14310 Parkview Court, Orlando, Fla., died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Florida North, Altamonte Springs, Fla. Born Jan. 22, 1932, in Northumberland County, he was the son of the late David C. and Bernice (Ebert) Chamberlin. His first wife, Phyllis (Beanh) Chamberlin, died in September 1979 and his second wife, Linda (Wagner) Chamberlin, whom he married June 14, 1980, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Thomas (Susan) Myers, State College, Mrs. Vince (Carla) Pantalone, Hershey, Eric Chamberlin, Portland, Maine, John Bleyer, Sanford, Fla., and Lee Bleyer, Alfarata; brothers and sisters, Sally Taylor, Montoursville, Charles Chamberlin, Milton, James Chamberlin and John Chamberlin, both of Turbotville, David Chamberlin, Spring Mills, Luther Chamberlin, State College, and Mary Esther Yagel, Rochester, N.Y.; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Chamberlin. He received his bachelor of science degree from Lock Haven College and his masters degree from Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired in June 1987 from Central Dauphin School District as a principal at Central Dauphin East. He was a member of the Alamo Baptist Church, Winter Park, Fla. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Bible Baptist Church, Burnham, with the Rev. John S. Walters officiating. Interment will be in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery, McClure. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Bible Baptist Church, 101 N. Beech St., Burnham, PA 17009.

Linda K. Cherry
LEWISTOWN - Linda K. Cherry, 50, of 1428 Glenwood Ave., Lewistown, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at her residence. Born Oct. 25, 1950, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Mary (Miller) Powell of 154 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown and the late James Newman. Her husband, Charles E. Cherry Jr., whom she married March 18, 1967, survives. Also surviving are: stepfather, Kenneth J. Powell, 154 Orchard Grove Ave., Lewistown; children, Michael Wayne Cherry and Karen Louise Cherry, both of Lewistown; stepdaughter, Mrs. Gene (Melissa) Stephens, Dalton, NY; brothers and sisters, Nancy Eriksen, Mrs. David (Vickie) Kauffman, Thomas A. Newman, and Robin J. Newman, all of Lewistown, Brian D. Newman, Melbourne, Fla., and Barry L. Newman, Gulf Port, Miss.; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Cherry in 1986. She was employed by Marlette Homes for 13 years, retiring on disability in 1999. She was a member of the Lewistown Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, the Women of the Moose, Lewistown, and the Cherokee Campers Club. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller- Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John Looney officiating. Interment will be in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home. Ronald O. Clifton Jr.
WORMLEYSBURG - Ronald O. Clifton Jr., 40, of Wormleysburg, and formerly of Juniata County, died at 3:12 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh, of natural causes. Born Jan. 1, 1960, in Bronx, N.Y., he was a son of the late Florence D. (McKnight) and Ronald O. Clifton Sr. His wife, Angela M. (Carfora) Clifton, survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Monique Clifton and Michelle Clifton, both of New York City, one niece and one nephew. He was a loader at Fry Communication and had been previously employed at The Cracker Barrel and Sears. He was a member of Christ Community Church, Camp Hill, and the Colonial Park Fire Company. He enjoyed collecting and building HO model trains. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Urich Funeral Home Inc., 305 W. Front St., Lewisberry, with Pastor Bob Klinger officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grantham Memorial Park, Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County. A funeral cortege will assemble at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Church, 1201 Slate Hill Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Edward Close Jr.
LEWISTOWN - Edward Close Jr., 90, of 307 S. Brown St., Lewistown, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at his residence. Born June 10, 1910, in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Edward Sr. and Elizabeth (Shirk) Close. His wife, Freda (McNitt) Close, whom he married in 1932, survives. Also surviving are: children, Robert Close and Mrs. Ervin (Nancy Jane) Cowder, both of Maryland; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in the spinning room at FMC Corporation for 43 1/2 years, retiring in 1968. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with Wilbur Arnold officiating. There will be no viewing. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Harold R. 'Doodle' Clouser
LEWISTOWN - Harold R. "Doodle" Clouser, 73, of 217 1/2 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 21, 1926, in Mifflin, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Elsie (Lebkicher) Clouser Sr. His wife Norma C. (Cappelli) Clouser, 217 1/2 Logan St., Lewistown, whom he married Feb. 11, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: a sister, Linda Butler, Cochranville; step-sisters, Carolyn Ellison, Salem N.J. and Janet Donselowski, Ormand Beach, Fla.; and step-brothers, Melvin Sadler, Ralph Sadler and Felbert Sadler, all of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. Clouser Jr. He was a truck driver for more than 50 years and had worked for various trucking companies, most recently Noerr's and Daubert's trucking companies, both of Lewistown. After his retirement, he was a driver for the Malta Home for the Aging, Granville. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Marton Roberson officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul E. Clouser
EAST WATERFORD - Paul E. Clouser, 77, of East Waterford RR1, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown. Born Feb. 26, 1923, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Emory and Edith (Fortney) Clouser. His wife, Helen (Reeder) Clouser, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Edwin L. Clouser, Stephen R. Clouser, and David P. Clouser, all of East Waterford RR1; brothers and sisters, Emory Clouser, Milroy, James Clouser, East Waterford RR1, Pearl James, Port Royal, Bertha Covert, Shade Gap, Hazel Burdge, East Waterford, and Sarah Overcash, Chambersburg; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Ward Berry and two brothers, Russell and John Clouser. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed farmer and a former Lack Township supervisor. He attended the Cross Keys Church of God. He was a member of the Cross Keys Conservation Club and the National Rifle Association. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Pastor Lanny Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Juniata Valley Veterans Council. Friends may call noon-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will be present 7-9 p.m.
