Donald E. Haffly
LEWISTOWN - Donald E. Haffly, 65, 329 Loop Road, Lewistown, died at 4:39 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 21, 1934, in McClure, he was a son of the late Albert S. and Vertie (Weader) Haffly. His wife, Sharon (Stine) Haffly, whom he married Oct. 30, 1999, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Rickey (Karin) Fitzgerald, Nancy J. Danowski, and Dawn M. Fitzpatrick, all of Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Rev. Albert Stanley Haffly, Carlisle, William D. Haffly, Zephyr Hills, Fla., Ammon R. Haffly, Thomas W. Haffly, Marjorie J. Hood, Dorothy M. Specht, Doris J. Hook, and Shirley A. Simcox, all of McClure; stepchildren, Lori J. Wells Green, Frederick, Md., John R. Wells, Alfarata, Clifford L. Wells, Carlisle, and K. Daniel Wells, Mifflintown; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Lauver, in 1989; one brother, one sister, and one granddaughter.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was a retired custodian at the Lewistown office of the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lewistown, and a member of Fame EMS. He was also a life member of both VFW Post 7011 and Brooklyn Hose Company.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dan J. Smith officiating and military services by V.F.W. Post 7011, Lewistown. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 200, Bethesda, MD 20814 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 551, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Rachel L. Hagans
LEWISTOWN - Rachel L. Hagans, 94, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of McClure RR1, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the manor.

Born Feb. 28, 1905, in Six Mile Run, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Mandella (Burkey) Everhart. Her husband, Charles R. Hagans, died Oct. 17, 1990.

Surviving are: children, Vera Roe, Malta Home, Granville and Milford D. Hagans, Windham, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother and five sisters; two daughters, Estalene Roe and Lula Stein; and a son, Norman Hagans.

She was a gasket manufacturer for Gaugua Industries in Middlefield, Ohio, retiring in 1967.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clifford R. Miller Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Tuesday.

Ruth M. Hagans
HUNTINGDON - Ruth M. Hagans, 90, of Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, formerly of Petersburg RR1, died at 5:58 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Westminster Woods.

Born Nov. 19, 1908, in Petersburg RR, she was the daughter of the late Walter N. and Ella (Showalter) Decker. Her husband, Nelson J. Hagans, died July 16, 1984.

Surviving are: a son, Walter C. Hagans, Petersburg RR1; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Trombieno.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Huntingdon and the Huntingdon Senior Citizens.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 217 W. Main St., Belleville, with the Rev. Joan Houck officiating. Interment will be in Greenlee Cemetery, McAlevy's Fort.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Fay R. Haines
MCALISTERVILLE - Fay R. Haines, 77, of McAlisterville RR1, died at 8:29 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Aug. 16, 1922, in Susquehanna Township, she was a daughter of the late Lee N. and Myrtle E. (Swartz) Hoverter. Her husband, Woodrow L. Haines, whom she married Oct. 7, 1939, died Feb. 7, 1987.

Surviving are: a son, Charles L. Haines, McAlisterville RR2; a companion, Marvin "Pete" Shoffner, Ickesburg; a brother, Harold Hoverter, Thompsontown; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd W. Haines, in 1964.

For 26 years, she was employed by the Selinsgrove State School as an attendant until her retirement in 1984.

She attended the Assembly of God Church, Mifflintown.

She enjoyed making crafts.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Walter E. Williams officiating. Interment will be in East Salem Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1.

Anna Catherine Hale
TIMONIUM, Md. - Anna Catherine Hale, 63, of Timonium, Md., died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Baltimore, Md.

Born March 21, 1937, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Florence Kathryn (Rothrock) Hale. Her husband, William "Herb" Hale, survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Gary Lee Hale, Bailer, Md. and David Alan Hale, Burlington, N.J.; stepson, Lawrence R. "Larry" Hale, Catonsville, Md.; sisters and brothers, Mary Powell and H. Edgar Miller, both of Lewistown, Gene Miller, Sachse, Texas, James Miller, San Diego, Calif., and Dorothy Benjamin, Stillwater; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, David Miller and Charles "Chuck" Miller.

She had worked for CSX Transportation Company and the Rite Aid Corporation.

She was a Methodist by faith.

Services were held at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley Inc., 10 W. Padonia Road, Timonium, Md., with J. Joseph Hart, chaplain of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, officiating. Interment was in the Druid Ridge Cemetery, Pikesville, Md.

Betty M. Hale
LEWISTOWN - Betty M. Hale, 76, 26 Ridge Ave., Lewistown, died at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born June 11, 1923, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Q. and Esther Elizabeth (Mowery) Brannon. Her husband, Harvey J. Hale, died Sept. 1, 1969.

Surviving are: daughters, Constance Yohn and Mrs. Eugene (Sandra) Hosler, both of Mexico, Pa.; sisters, Dorothy Speck, Lewistown, V. Pearl Baxter, Fla., and Mrs. Robert (Lois) Cosentino, Gibbsboro, N.J.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She taught sewing for the Juniata Association for the Blind, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Mr. Kurt L. McKinney Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Carl L. Halfpenny
LEWISTOWN - Carl L. Halfpenny, 60, of 8414 US Highway 522 South, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.

Born March 22, 1939, in Sligo, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Francis G. and Virginia (McKee) Halfpenny. His wife, Connie (Brown) Halfpenny, whom he married Dec. 21, 1963, survives.

Also surviving are: Mrs. Michael (Anne) Woomer and Jason C. Halfpenny, both of Lewistown, Russell G. Halfpenny and Mrs. Jeffrey (Carrie) Hornbaker, both of McVeytown; a brother, Jack R. Halfpenny, Lewistown; eight grandchildren; and a nephew, Donald P. Pitts, McVeytown, who resided with him.

He was a machinist at Standard Steel, Burnham for 27 years, retiring in 1992 due to disability. He was also owner-operator of Penny's Enterprises (a slate turkey call manufacturer).

He was a member the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, past president of the Mifflin County Sportsman's Club, past president of the Mifflin County National Wild Turkey Federation, and the United Steelworker's of America Local 1940.

He was an avid hunter and sportsman.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jerry Wise and Chaplain Wendy Wells officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Irene O. Hall
LEWISTOWN - Irene O. Hall, 71, of 70 Hall Lane, Lewistown, died at 3:52 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 1999, in the emergency room of the Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 9, 1928, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late Paul David and Florence (Vonada) Kauffman. Her husband, Joseph N. Hall, died Oct. 29, 1994.

Surviving are: a son, Joseph D. Hall, McClure; brothers and sisters, Russell Kauffman, Belleville, Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Lyter and Ralph Kauffman, both of Lumber City, Reedsville, and Mrs. Floyd (Nancy) Leister, 40 Leister Lane, Lewistown; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

She was a clerk-typist for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for 15 years, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Burnham and the UCT Council 591, Lewistown.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Larry Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
