Gordon Randolph Laite
ROANOKE, Va. - Gordon Randolph Laite, 68, of Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at the Veterans' Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Newfoundland, Canada, he was a son of Rev. Chesley and Flora (Simms) Laite of Edgemont Personal Care Lodge, Lansford, formerly of Milroy. His wife of 40 years, Ruth E. Laite, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. David (Karen) Desseyn, Lexington, S.C., Mrs. Jim (Ingrid) Vesperman, Orlando, Fla., and Jennifer Laite, Roanoke, Va.; brothers, Reginald Laite, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., Murray Laite, Lewistown, and Berkley Laite, Chambersburg; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He started his own real estate company, Alpha Omega, and was a broker for many years.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va., where he led Bible studies and taught Sunday school.

A memorial service was held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Cancer Society, Roanoke, Va.

Eleanor M. Lancaster
MOUNT UNION - Eleanor M. Lancaster, 73, of 6 Substation Road, Mount Union, died unexpectedly in her home Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999.

Born Sept. 26, 1926, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur K. and Ethel P. (Grove) Myers. Her husband, Merl W. Lancaster, whom she married in August 1950, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Donald K. Lancaster and George L. Lancaster, Mount Union RD1, and Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Ronk, McVeytown RD2; brother and sisters, George Myers, Newport, Thelma Folk, Lancaster, Joyce Shumaker, McVeytown, and Pearl Lane, Greenbriar Road, McVeytown; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Samuel Myers.

She was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Richard Morris officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR1.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Robert L. Landis
MOUNT UNION - Robert L. Landis, 62, of 43 Taylor Apartments, Mount Union, formerly of Pennsylvania Avenue, Mount Union, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born March 26, 1936, in Shade Gap, he was the son of the late Robert G. and Martha (Hampton) Landis Grove. His wife, Deanna (Hampton) Landis, whom he married June 18, 1955, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Patricia Brenneman, Tyrone and Mrs. Burke (Brenda) Bishop, Huntingdon; brother and sister, Ralph E. Grove Jr., New Bloomfield, and Vickie McMullen, Loysville RR; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Rockwell and Shirley Sollers.

He was employed as a truck driver at the Burnham plant of E. DeVecchis and Sons for 39 years, having last worked in 1992.

He was Protestant by faith.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Tiffany M. Freeman officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Weldon C. Lane
ST. SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. - Weldon C. Lane, 69, of St. Simons Island, Ga. and Fayetteville, N. Y., died Tuesday Feb. 23, 1999, at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Carl and Florine (Cromwell) Lane. His wife, Marylou (Kramer) Lane of St. Simons Island, Ga. and Fayetteville, N. Y., survives.

Also surviving are: children, Douglas T. Lane, Reedsville and Stacey Lane Tice, Jamesville, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of Shippensburg University and Dickenson Law School in Carlisle.

He was a retired regional claims manager with Nationwide Insurance Co. in Syracuse, N.Y.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, N.Y., the American Legion Post 369 in Fayetteville, and the Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203 F&AM.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Eaton Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home, East Genesse Street, Fayetteville, N.Y.

Paul A. Lantz
SELINSGROVE - Paul A. Lantz, 81, of 304 Charles St., Selinsgrove, formerly of Milroy, died at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in the emergency room of Sunbury Community Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1918, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Rev. Charles A. Lantz and M. Berdelle Broscious. His wife, Ruth V. Boyer, survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Rev. Craig A. Lantz, Glen Rock, and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David B. Lantz, during World War II.

He was a graduate of Milroy High School and earned a bachelor's degree at Susquehanna University. He did graduate work at the University of Maryland.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a retired electrical engineer, having been employed by the U.S. Navy in Washington for 19 years, and by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for 20 years, retiring June 2, 1974.

He was a senior life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and a member of the Antenna and Propagation Society; the International Union of Radio Science; the Northumberland County Historical Society; the Pennsylvania Archaelogical Society; the Pennsylvania Folklore Society; and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was an emertius member of the Society of the Sigma Xi; a life member of Mifflin County Historical Society; and a life member and trustee of the Snyder County Historical Society. He was also a past member of the Snyder County Board of Elections.

He was vice-commander and trustee of the American Legion Post 25, Selinsgrove.

He served three terms on the congregation council - one as vice president - at Sharon Lutheran Church, where he was active in many ways. He was a member of the Upper Susquehanna Synod Council (Lutheran), where he also served on the executive board as well as on a number of Synod committees. He was a member of the Cabinet of the Middle Creek Conference (Lutheran) and was a delegate of the first Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American held in Chicago. He was a delegate to the constituting convention of Lutheran Men in Mission. Finally, he was a member of the Governing Board of the Pennsylvania Council of Churches.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove, with the Rev. William S. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in St. Elias (Brick) Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at Sharon Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Snyder County Historical Society, Middleburg, PA; Lutheran Theological Seminary, Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg, PA 17325; or Sharon Lutheran Church, 120 S. Market St., Selinsgrove, PA 17870.

Lee A. Lash
BEAVERTOWN - Lee A. Lash, 79, of Sassafras Street, Beavertown, died at 9:06 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Oct. 21, 1920, in McClure, he was a son of the late Clarence and Bertha (Snook) Lash. His wife, Dorothy (Thomas) Lash, died April 3, 1997. His companion, Marie Walters, survives.

Also surviving are: sons, David Lash, Houston, Texas and William Lash, Shamokin Dam; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a retired carpenter from Sunbury Local 838 United Brotherhood of Carpenter and Joiners of America.

He attended the First United Methodist Church, McClure.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Selinsgrove.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Kevin E. Brophy officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Beavertown Rescue and Hose Company Ambulance Fund, Beavertown, PA 17813.

A. Pearl Laughlin
MCVEYTOWN - A. Pearl Laughlin, 72, of 24 N. Water St., McVeytown, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at her residence.

Born Sept. 13, 1927, in Mattawana, she was a daughter of Ellsworth and Florence (Miller) Moist. Her husband, G. Russell Laughlin, whom she married in 1946, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Ronald (Sharon K.) Grassmyer, 34 Short Loop Road, Lewistown, Gary R. Laughlin, Hummelstown, Randy Laughlin, Lewistown, and Roger L. Laughlin, McVeytown; a sister, Mrs. Esther Donahey, McVeytown; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

She was an instructional assistant for Mifflin County School District for 19 years.

She was a member of Spring Run Church of the Brethren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters officiating. Interment will be held in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611.

Beverly C. Lauver
MIFFLINTOWN - Beverly C. Lauver, 60, of 104 North Fourth St., Mifflintown, died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, June 11, 1999, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born Sept. 21, 1938, in Titusville, Crawford County, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Josephine (Lindquist) Courson. Her husband, Ralph W. Lauver, whom she married on March 24, 1967, in Baltimore, Md., survives.

Also surviving are: sons, Andrew S. Lauver and John C. "Chuck" Lauver, both of Mifflintown; and brother and sister, Robert L. Courson, Pittsburgh, and Shirley C. Shultz, Baltimore, Md.

She graduated in 1956 from Colestock High School, Titusville, and received a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1960.

She began teaching in 1960 in the Juniata County School District and retired in 1997 with 37 years of service. During her tenure, she also served as girls' basketball coach, girls' field hockey coach and girls' softball coach.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Washington Avenue and Third Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. William N. Esborn officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflintown Playground, 100 Cross St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
