Clair K. Lauver
MIFFLINTOWN - Clair K. Lauver, 73, of Mifflintown, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.

Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Van Wert, he was a son of the late Rev. Harvey S. and Ruth C. (Kanode) Lauver. His wife, Thelma J. (Ward) Lauver, whom he married on Nov. 18, 1950, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Ronald (Diane) Swartz, Richfield RR1, Craig A. Lauver, Richfield and Nelson C. Lauver, Mifflintown; brothers, Laban K. Lauver, Chesterfield, Va., George A. Lauver Sr., Morrisville, Ray S. Lauver, Millersburg, Boyd F. Lauver, Mechanicsburg and Rufus E. Lauver, McAlisterville; sisters, Lois I. Meyers, Midwest City, Okla., Dorcas Brandt, Abilene, Kan., Esther M. Davis, Coopersburg and Alma Shelly, New Newton, Kan.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel Lauver and Charles Lauver, both in infancy, and James Lauver.

He attended Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown and graduated from Messiah Bible School in 1944.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Western Pacific theater from 1944-1946 as a medical technician.

He founded J.V. Oil Co., McAlisterville in 1955 and Roller Junction, Mifflintown in 1981. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1946-1955, Chase Industries, McAlisterville, Clair C. Stuck Funeral Home, McAlisterville and Bilger Fuels (formerly J.V. Oil Co.) until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, he was a driver for Tuscarora Hardwoods, Elliottsburg.

He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville.

He was also a member and past master of Tennis Lodge F&AM 271, Thompsontown, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Harrisburg Consistory, Past Masters Club, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

He was also a member of the Lost Creek Rod and Gun Club and Pennsylvania Petroleum Association. He was a past member of the Fayette Lions Club, Juniata County School Board, Mifflintown VFW and the Steering Committee of Lost Creek Health Services.

He was also a co-founder of the Juniata-Mifflin Counties Area Vocational-Technical School and the Perry-Juniata Oil Association and was appointed by Gov. Dick Thornburgh as a trustee for the Selinsgrove State School.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. James Park Bricker officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4, with full military honors by the Juniata County Veterans Association.

Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m.

Marilyn E. Lauver
MIFFLINTOWN - Marilyn E. Lauver, 67, of Mifflintown, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Health South Renovo Center, Mechanicsburg.

Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Walnut, Beale Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Elwood Boone and Mary G. (Pannabaker) Maunder.

Surviving are: her former husband, Robison K. Lauver, Mifflintown; four sons, R. Joseph Lauver and Steven E. Lauver, both of Mifflintown, Barry F. Lauver, McAlisterville, and Randall E. Lauver, Manheim; five half-brothers, James Boone, Lewistown, Robert Boone and William Boone, both of Ickesburg, David Boone, East Waterford, and Thomas Boone, Honey Grove; two half-sisters, Patricia Fleisher, Mexico, Pa., and Pauline Baumgardner, Honey Grove; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was a 1949 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown.

She retired in 1998 from the Juniata County School District, with 24 and a half years service as a secretary.

She was an active member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, having served as deacon, assistant Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was also a member of the Juniata County Retired Teachers Association.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Myrtle M. Lauver
MIFFLIN - Myrtle M. Lauver, 95, a resident of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC 67, Mifflin, formerly of Mifflintown, died at 4:25 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at the village.

Born June 11, 1904, in Saville, Perry County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lila (Kell) McLaughlin. Her husband, Elmer R. Lauver, died Feb. 28, 1969.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Miles J. (Sara L.) Heckendorn, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a son, Robison K. Lauver, Mifflintown; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister, Florence Sterrett, and four brothers, Frank McLaughlin, Kell McLaughlin, Delbert McLaughlin, and Clarence McLaughlin.

She was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown.

She was a self-employed private duty practical nurse.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Louise Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

There will be no visitation or viewing.

Wayne R. Lauver
RICHFIELD - Wayne R. Lauver, 61, of Richfield, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, 1999, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Dec. 16, 1937, in Richfield, he was the son of Emma A. (Hepner) Lauver of Richfield and the late Oden W. Lauver.

Also surviving are: a son, David W. Lauver, Pabrump, Nev.; brother and sister, Ernest W. Lauver, McAlisterville RR1 and Thelma M. Vaughn, Colonial Park; and two grandchildren.

He attended Richfield Grammar School and East Juniata High School, Cocolamus.

He retired on disability in 1972 after being employed for five years with Pennsylvania Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Harrisburg. Previously he was employed as an attendant for the Pennsylvania State Hospital, Harrisburg and was a ride operator at Rolling Green Park, Shamokin Dam.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Richfield, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Richfield Fire Department, and of the Richfield Ambulance League, for which he was a dispatcher from his home for the last 22 years.

He enjoyed making leather goods, watching professional baseball, and listening to country music.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Richfield, with the Rev. Almon D. Baird officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, where family will be present from 7-9 p.m.

Hazel C. Lawler
DANVILLE - Hazel C. Lawler, 89, a resident of Maria Joseph Manor, 875 Montour Blvd., Danville, formerly of Shaw Avenue/ Logan Street, Lewistown, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 1999, at the manor.

Born March 19, 1910, in Croyle Township, Cambria County, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Catherine (Miller) Kelly. Her husband, John J. Lawler, former mayor of Lewistown, died in 1987.

She is survived by four nieces and one nephew.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a graduate of South Fork High School, Cambria County.

She was a homemaker and in early life, she worked as a supervisor in the processing department of the American Viscose Corporation, Division of FMC for 12 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and past president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She was also past president of the Alter and Rosary Society, a member of the R.I.C.A. Team, the Evangelization Committee, the Mifflin County Historical Society, the Lewistown Music Study, and the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lewistown.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

James O. Lawrence
NEW CUMBERLAND - James O. Lawrence, 72, of New Cumberland, died at 9:46 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born Jan. 6,1927, in Covel, W.Va., he was a son of the late James E. and Mary "Rita" (Austin) Lawrence. His wife, Beatrice L. (Swartz) Lawrence, whom he married Oct. 13, 1956, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Michael Lawrence, Durango, Colo., and Mrs. Gene (Linda F.) Ranaldi, Avon, Conn.; brothers and sister, Frederick L. Lawrence, East Berlin, Pa., William A. Lawrence and Mrs. Warren (Pauline) Hale, both of Floyd, Vir.; and four grandchildren.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy as a medical corpsman.

He retired in 1992 as a self-employed land developer and was associated with Detweiler Real Estate Firm, Camp Hill.

He was a member of American Legion Post 27, Linglestown; the Robert Burns Lodge 464, F&AM, Harrisburg; the Harrisburg Consistory of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest 43, Harrisburg; and was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown, where he was a volunteer for the soup kitchen.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield, with the Rev. Michael L. Seifried officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted by Liverpool American Legion, Post 364, at St. Peter's Cemetery, Millerstown RR2.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, where Middleburg Lodge 619, F&AM will conduct a masonic service at 8 p.m.

Kenneth E. Leach
MIFFLINTOWN - Kenneth E. Leach, 67, Mifflintown, died at 8:02 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at his home.

Born Aug. 1, 1932, in Thompsontown, he was a son of Alberta (Nelson) Leach of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown RR1 and the late Marvin R. Leach. His wife, Nancy (Hummel) Leach, whom he married March 2, 1956, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Tina L. Jackson and Dianne M. Leach, both of New Cumberland and Jerry L. Leach, Thompsontown; brothers and sisters, Albert "Son" Leach, Arlene L. Weiand and Nancy A. Shadel, all of Thompsontown, Harold L. Leach, Thompsontown RR1 and Betty Jean Swartz, Port Royal RR1 and four grandchildren.

He was a direct descendant of John Thompson, the founder of Thompsontown.

He was a 1951 graduate of Juniata Joint High School.

He was a staff sergeant in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a building contractor and developer for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was also a Juniata County Commissioner since 1996. In this capacity, he served as Chairman of the Board, served on the Board of Directors of SEDA-COG and served on the Tri-County Board of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

He was a lifetime member of the Republican National Party.

He was a member and past council member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown and also attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown.

He was also member and past president of the Mifflintown Rotary and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a founding member of the Juniata Business and Industry and was instrumental in the development of Lost Creek Golf Club.

He was a member of the Thompsontown Amvets and enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.

Services will be held at 2 p.m.Thursday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown. Interment will be in the Thompsontown Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon until the time of the services Thursday at the church.

The Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Janet L. Leacy
PORT ROYAL - Janet L. Leacy, 62, of 216 Fifth St., Tuscarora Acres, Port Royal, formerly of Mexico, Pa., died Friday afternoon, June 18, 1999, at her home.

Born Aug. 11, 1936, in Walnut, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Milton G. and Anna E. (Robinson) Schaeffer. Her husband, Wilton A. Leacy, died Jan. 17, 1991.

Surviving are: children, Milton A. Leacy, HC67, Mifflin, Mrs. Mark (Doris) Seeger, McAlisterville RR1, and Mrs. Barry (Nancy) Dressler, McAlisterville RR2; a sister, Anna C. Arnold, Mifflintown RR1; half-sister, Mrs. Daniel (Dorothy) Baney, McVeytown; and 10 grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nook.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Richard H. Burchfield officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery, Walker Township, Juniata County.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
