Rev. Stuart Hoffman Lengel Sr.
NEW BLOOMFIELD - Rev. Stuart Hoffman Lengel Sr., 91, of New Bloomfield, formerly of Thompsontown, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

Born May 10, 1908, in Shoemakersville, he was a son of the late Irvin D. and Elmira (Hoffman) Lengel. His wife, Sarah Anna (Bieber) Lengel, whom he married March 23, 1932, died July 7, 1996.

Surviving are: children, Rev. Stuart H. Lengel Jr., Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, Harold A. Lengel, Palm Bay, Fla., Robert J. Lengel, Kissimmee, Fla., Clyde J. Lengel, Bossier City, La., Richard Lengel, Selinsgrove, Mrs. George (Annamae) Losch, Millerstown RR2, and Mrs. Gary (Mary) Sherman, Shermansdale; sisters, Mae Noecker, Shoemakersville, Elda Isset, Allentown, and Laura Wagner, New York City, N.Y.; 27 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and five step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters; one son, David; and two grandsons, John and David.

He received his AB degree from Gettysburg College in 1930, his BD degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1933, and his M Ed degree from Penn State University several years later.

He served the Rossville Parish (York County); the Trinity Lutheran Church, McAlisterville; and the Stone Valley Lutheran Parish, as well as Arbogast's, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2; St. Peter's Lutheran, Millerstown; Leininger's, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2; and Zion (Halls) Lutheran, Port Trevorton.

Faith Lutheran Church, Richfield RR1, of which he was a member, was organized under his leadership. He served on many Synodical Boards of the Central Pennsylvania Synod of the Lutheran Church and participated in many community activities in Susquehanna Township and Juniata County.

He taught school for 26 years in Juniata County and at Steelton Highspire. He was one of the first special education teachers in Juniata County.

He developed and managed Lengel Orchards, Bressler's Ridge, Richfield RR.

He loved the outdoors, flowers, gardening and fishing.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Richfield RR1, with the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman, Bishop A. Donald Main of the Upper Susquehanna Synod, and the Rev. Pusey A. Losch officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.

Gertrude M. 'Sity' Lepley
MIFFLINTOWN - Gertrude M. "Sity" Lepley, 85, of Berry's Personal Care, Mifflintown, and formerly of McClure RR1, Alfarata, died at 8:44 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Brookline Manor Convalescent Rest Home, Mifflintown RR1.

Born Jan. 26, 1914, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lottie (Will) Stumpff. Her husband, Gerald M. Lepley of Berry's Personal Care, Mifflintown, whom she married Dec. 24, 1931, survives.

Also surviving are: a brother, William I. Stumpff, Lewistown RR3; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; five step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Hook in 1975; two brothers, Guy Stump and Steward Stumpff; and a granddaughter.

She was a clerk with Bon Ton Department Store in Lewistown for 22 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alfarata, where she was a former pianist in the Sunday school department. She was also a member of Decatur Fire Company Auxiliary, and the Mifflin County Historical Society. She was a former member of the Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary and a former accompanist of the Alfarata Men's Chorus.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Clyde Singh officiating. Interment will be in Alfarata Lutheran Cemetery, Lewistown.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mabel L. Lepley
BELLEVILLE - Mabel L. Lepley, 86, of 5647 Back Mountain Road, Belleville (Barrville), died at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at her residence.

Born April 6, 1913, in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Alice (Snook) Knepp. Her husband, Homer W. Lepley, died Jan. 1, 1987.

Surviving are: children, Florence Alice Lepley, Apple Creek, Ohio, James W. Lepley, Smithville, Ohio, Robert L. Lepley, Orrville, Ohio, and Lester E. Lepley, Aberdeen, Md.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of the Barrville Mennonite Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barrville Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Gerald Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Barrville Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville.

Richard S. Lerch
BELLEVILLE - Richard S. Lerch, 86, of 32 Applehouse Road, Belleville, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1913, in Osceola Mills, he was a son of the late Alfred and Lottie (Wagner) Lerch. His wife, Jessie (Wood) Lerch, whom he married in 1950, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Terry (Susan) Williams, Stouchsburg, Edward Lerch, Lewistown, and Thomas Lerch, New Cumberland; sisters and brothers, Emma DeLong and Verna Fultz, both of Lewistown, Edwin Lerch, Illinois, and Frances Leister, East Petersburg; five grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and one step-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and James Lerch, and a sister, Mildred Berger.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a salesman for Lerch Furniture for 25 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewistown, and of United Commercial Travelers.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Interment will be private.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Anna M. Lewis
LEWISTOWN - Anna M. Lewis, 97, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, and formerly of Lewistown, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 26, 1902, in Armagh Township, she was a daughter of the late Morris and Margaret J. (Bay) Pecht. Her husband, Earnest E. Lewis, died in 1955.

Surviving are: a daughter, Doris Rowe, Burnham; a sister, Eleanor Butler, Michigan; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two children, Sara Shuman and George M. Lewis; a brother, Wallace Pecht; and three sisters, Willa Davidheiser, Adda Treaster, and Margaret Lyter.

She was a kitchen helper for the Mifflin County School District.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown, and a member of the Happy Workers Sunday School Class of the church.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Francis J. "Jerry" Lewis
MIFFLINTOWN - Francis J. "Jerry" Lewis, 80, of the Brookline Manor and Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1, formerly of 418 Village Drive, Mifflintown, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the village.

Born Oct. 13, 1919, in Watkins Glen, N.Y., he was a son of the late Francis J. and Mary Elizabeth (Duncan) Lewis Sr. His wife, Wilma O. (Benner) Lewis, survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Richard Lewis, Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Nancy Flores, Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Anne Kasiske, Melbourne, Fla., and Martha Gannon, Conesus, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

He graduated from Monroe High School, Rochester, N.Y., the Rochester Business Institute and attended the Eastman School of Music. He was a popular musician in the 1930s and 1940s in the Rochester area.

He was a World War II veteran, having served as a bombardier in the U. S. Army Air Corps.

He was employed in sales and marketing for IBM, NCR, and retired from GTE.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Baskin Ridge Cemetery, Baskin Ridge, N.J.

There will be no public viewing.

Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

George M. Lewis
LEWISTOWN - George M. Lewis, 72, of Fairway Place, Lewistown, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown.

Born May 30, 1927, in Granville Township, he was the son of Anna M. (Pecht) Lewis of Lewistown and the late Ernest E. Lewis. His wife, Floris C. (Kenepp) Lewis, whom he married July 18, 1970, survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Carol D. Lewis, at home; a sister, Doris B. Rowe, Burnham; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara M. Shuman.

He was a pressman for The Patriot News Company, Harrisburg, retiring in 1989. He had also been employed as a pressman for The Sentinel, Lewistown.

He was a veteran, having served as a sergeant in the United States Army in Panama during World War II.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lewistown and also attended the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, McVeytown.

He was captain of the former Henderson Fire Company in Lewistown for 18 years and was a lifetime member of both the Henderson and Fame Fire Companies. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the United Commercial Travelers Council 591, Lewistown, and the Weekender's Camping Club.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Miller officiating. Interment will be held in Spring Run Cemetery, McVeytown.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Glenn Alfred Lewis
CARLISLE - Glenn Alfred Lewis, 92, a resident of Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle, formerly of 116 S. Ridge St., Burnham, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 11, 1906, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late George R. and Margaret E. (Price) Lewis. His wife, Harriet E. (Crossgrove) Lewis, died Nov. 30, 1987.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Barbara) Gramley, Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family.

He was an office employee at Standard Steel in Burnham.

He was a member of the Burnham Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon and on the Board of Trustees. He also served on the Lewistown Motor Club Board of Directors for 15 years, the Burnham Borough Council for two years, and the Burnham School Board for one term. He was a life member of the Newtown Fire Co. and a member of the Birch Hill Supervisors Club.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Wayne Mast officiating. Interment will be in the Maitland Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.
