Mary M. Heckman Spigelmyer
BOOTHWYN - Mary M. Heckman Spigelmyer, 84, of Boothwyn, formerly of McVeytown, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Chester.

Born May 27, 1915, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late William and Iva (Cupp) Norris. Her first husband, Samuel Heckman, died in 1944, and her second husband James E. Spigelmyer, died April 22, 1997.

She is survived by a sister, Pearl Goss of Maryland; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Naomi Joy) Gagne; a son, Eddie Heckman; and two brothers.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Boothwyn Fire House for 50 years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Roger Reece officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Boothwyn Fire House, 1405 Meeting House Road, Boothwyn, PA 19061.

Royetta I. Spigelmyer
LEWISTOWN - Royetta I. Spigelmyer, 86, a resident of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, formerly of McClure, died at 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the manor.

Born June 13, 1913, in McClure, she was a daughter of the late Roy H. and Carrie B. (Crossgrove) Wagner. Her husband, Herman T. Spigelmyer, whom she married Dec. 9, 1933, died Dec. 9, 1987.

Surviving are: daughters, Anita Wright and Jane Thomas, both of McClure, Rebecca Cook, Virginia Beach, Va., Gloria Logan, Lewistown, and Virginia Ettinger, Melfa, Va.; sisters, June Searer, York, Mary Wagner, Harrisburg and Grace Walker, Levittown; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Spigelmyer in 1938 and a brother, Theodore Wagner.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel UCC Church, McClure, where she was a member of the Pollyanna Class. She enjoyed reading and puzzles.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McClure chapel of Aurand Funeral Homes Inc., North Brown St., McClure, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery.

There will be no evening viewing.

Esther A. Sponic
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Esther A. Sponic, 69, of Phoenix, Ariz., died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at John C. Lincoln Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz.

Born Jan. 19, 1930, in Selinsgrove, she was a daughter of the late Reverend Carl C. and Reba R. (Smith) Bossler. Her husband, Donald Sponic, whom she married May 17, 1954, died Nov. 10, 1982.

She is survived by: sisters, Darlene M. Freed, Thompsontown and Lovina Sheerer, Miffintown; stepsons, Donald Sponic, South Carolina and Wayne Sponic, Millersburg; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Luther J. Bossler.

She was a 1947 graduate of Fayette High School.

She had been employed by California Federal Savings Bank, Los Angeles.

She was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville and she was an avid reader.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.

Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte E. Stafford
LEWISTOWN - Charlotte E. Stafford, 86, a resident of Fairview Retirement Community, Lewisberry, formerly of New Cumberland, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999, at the retirement home.

Born June 15, 1912, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Sylvester M. and Bertha (Kirk) Palm.

Surviving are: children, Roland D. Stafford and Hazel Noll, both of New Cumberland, Mary L. Johnson, Landisburg, Esther L. Barlup, Lisburn, and Darla Halterman, Edgewood, Md; brothers and sisters, Rev. Cecil Palm, Montgomery, James "Jack" Palm, Loysville, Izora Diven, Mechanicsburg, and Edna Burdge, Mexico, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was a former custodial worker for West Shore School District and attended Oakwood Baptist Church, Camp Hill.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove. Interment will be in McCullochs Mills Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 12-1 p.m.

Robert M. Stafford
PORT ROYAL - Robert M. Stafford, 55, of Tuscarora Acres, Port Royal, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1944, in Phenix, Ariz., he was a son of the late Robert and Helen (Talbott) Stafford.

A companion, Betty L. Stafford, survives.

He served from 1962-1965 in the United States Navy.

He had been a long-distance truck owner and operator.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Ronald Shupe officiating.

There will be no public viewing.

Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Clair S. 'Sammy' Steese
BURNHAM - Clair S. "Sammy" Steese, 71, of 107 Sunset Drive, Burnham, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his residence.

Born June 21, 1928, in Mifflinburg, he was a son of the late Samuel and Stella (Frederick) Steese. His wife, Marcella (Wagner) Steese, whom he married June 9, 1951, survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Carol Ann Romig Harpster, Milroy; a sister, Eleanor Koonsman, Mifflinburg; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Steese.

He was a 1946 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and attended Thompson Business School, Harrisburg.

He retired from the Standard Steel Employment Office in 1990 after 39 years of service.

He was a member of the Parkview Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon. He was also a former member of the Burnham Borough Council.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Kenneth Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John M. Steffen
MIFFLINTOWN- John M. Steffen, 82, of Mifflintown RR1, died at 5:45 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at his home.

Born May 5, 1917, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late John E. and Roxie Belle (Allen) Steffen. His wife, Ethel V. "Sis" (Shugarts) Steffen, whom he married Dec. 23, 1939, survives.

Also surviving are: daughters, Barbara Ann Hamilton, Harrisburg, Roxie Kelly, Thompsontown, Jackie Ford, Carlisle, and Connie Pena, Collegeville; a sister, Mary B. Farmer, Wilson, N.C.; seven grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Ashley Steffen; two brothers, Charles "PeeWee" Steffen and Howard "Fritz" Steffen; and a sister, Etheletta "Dash" Snyder.

He was a 1935 graduate of Mifflintown High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He retired in 1977 as a welding inspector for Standard Steel, Burnham.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where the flag will be folded and presented by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

There will be no public viewing but family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Barbara A. Steltzer
BELLEFONTE - Barbara A. Steltzer, 67, of Center Crest Nursing Center, Bellefonte, formerly of Pleasant Gap and Lewistown, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the nursing center.

Born March 16, 1932, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Mildred (Bloom) Boynton. Her husband Robert C. Steltzer, whom she married in 1951, survives at 200 Rachel Drive Place, Pleasant Gap.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

She was a 1950 graduate of Lewistown High School.

She was a needlepoint enthusiast.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 S. Main St., Lewistown with the Rev. Albert S. Yost officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.

Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown is in charge of the arrangements.
