Robert D. Mackneer
REEDSVILLE - Robert D. Mackneer, 66, of 476 W. Railroad St., Reedsville, died at 4:38 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 21, 1933, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Mary Elizabeth (Freed) and Louis Darwin Mackneer Sr. His wife, Shirley (Scyoc) Mackneer, whom he married Nov. 21, 1956, survives. Also surviving are: children, Brenda L. Wiser, Reedsville, Alan W. Mackneer, Jeffrey R. Mackneer and Gloria J. Michaels, all of Lewistown, Wendy S. Steighner, Kentucky, and Dale R. Mackneer, Maitland; brothers, Captain Paul T. Mackneer, Pottstown, Richard D. Mackneer, North Carolina, William L. Mackneer, Lewistown, and Larry N. Mackneer, Port Royal; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis D. Mackneer Jr., and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Erma) Stokes. He worked as a crane operator in the wheel mill of Standard Steel, Burnham for 39 1/2 years. He attended Gateway Family Fellowship, Reedsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and making crafts. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Pastor A.J. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Family Fellowship, 6 N. Main St., Reedsville, PA 17084.

Sara C. Mackneer
LEWISTOWN - Sara C. Mackneer, 92, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown and formerly of Lawler Place, Lewistown, died at 4:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at the nursing home. Born Aug. 3, 1908, in Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Joshua S. and Lillian (Rhine) Rowles. Her husband, John B. Mackneer, preceded her in death on March 30, 1963. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Paul (Charlotte) Donaldson, Mrs. Nancy Bowersox and Mrs. Steven (Deborah) Rothrock, all of Lewistown; a brother, Homer Rowles, Cross Keys; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons and one daughter, and also by three brothers and one sister. Early in life, she worked at the American Viscose Corp, Lewistown, and then at Empire Kosher Poultry, Mifflintown. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose, Lewistown. A funeral service will be held at noon Monday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in Waterloo Cemetery in Waterloo, Juniata County. There will be no viewing; however family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Moosehart Inc., c/o Moose International, Moosehart, IL 60859.

Sarah Helen Maddox
CARLISLE - Sarah Helen Maddox, 91, a resident of Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle, formerly of Lewistown, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the nursing home. Born June 5, 1909, in Patton, she was a daughter of the late John and Ida (Shunkwiler) Proud. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Maddox. She is survived by a son, John C. Maddox, Carlisle, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. She graduated from Patton High School, Patton. She retired from the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown. She was a member of the Allison United Methodist Church and the Wesley Bible Sunday School Class, Carlisle. She was also a member of the Textile Workers Union of America. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Erie L. Funk officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allison United Methodist Church, 99 Mooreland Ave., Carlisle, PA 17013.

Leona B. Waite Makibbin
BELLEFONTE - Leona B. Waite Makibbin, 98, of Bellefonte, and formerly of Beech Creek, Orbiston and Mifflintown, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at the Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. Born May 28, 1902, in Honey Grove, Perry County, she was a daughter of the late James and Gouldie (Warnick) Nesbit. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John R. Waite, in 1962, and her second husband, Arthur J. Makibbin, in 1997. Surviving are: two daughters, Marjorie Neff, Ormond Beach, Fla. and Janette Packer, Bellefonte; a step-daughter, Darlis Simonton, Carlisle; a step-son, Roland Makibbin, Carlisle; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a grandson whom she raised, Frank "Buddy" Halderman, Bellefonte. She was preceded in death by a son, John "Jack" Wesley Waite, in World War II in 1944; a step-daughter, Mazie Lewis, in 1996; and a great-grandson, Jonathan Halderman, in 1987. She was the last of her immediate family. She had worked at Sylvania, Mill Hall during World War II, and, along with her first husband, John, operated Waite's Road Side Inn, Beech Creek. She was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Andersonville. She was also a member and past president of American War Mothers, and a life member of the American Legion, Bellefonte and VFW Auxiliary, Bellefonte. She enjoyed crocheting, needlework and gardening. Her funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the W. Roger Neff Funeral Home, 837 Main St., Howard, with the Rev. Anna M. Ritter officiating. Interment will be at the Church of Christ Cemetery, Blanchard.

Maxwell N. 'Max' Manbeck Jr.
MIFFLINTOWN - Maxwell N. "Max" Manbeck Jr., 85, of Mifflintown, died at 7:10 p.m., Friday Dec. 22, 2000 at his home. Born Sept. 9, 1915, in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Maxwell N. and Lydia V. (Vincent) Manbeck, Sr. His wife Margaret C. (Crawford) Manbeck preceded him in death on March 23, 1989. Surviving are: children, William H. Manbeck and Steven J. Manbeck, and Mrs. Scott (Sarah M.) Leeper, all of Mifflintown; a sister, Florence M. Stump, Mifflintown, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He attended Mifflintown High School and was a graduate of the Harrisburg Academy and the Pennsylvania State College. He was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, Nittany Lion Club, Union Lodge No. 324 F&A.M., Mifflintown and the Lost Creek Golf Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a self-employed farmer and businessman, having been associated in the past as a manager with W. H. Manbeck & Co., Mifflin, director and chairman of the Board for Consumer Discount Co. of Lewistown, director and vice president of Juniata Concrete Co., Manbeck Poultry Farms, Manbeck Hereford Farms. He was a partner in M&M Farms and served as director and president of Pa. Dutch Farms, Inc. He was director, vice chairman and chairman of the executive committee for the Manbeck Baking Co., director and president of the Riverside Oil Co., director and president of Mountain View Courts, owner of Manbeck Tree Farms, director and vice president of Juniata Lumber & Supply Co., and had served as a director, president and chairman of the board for Juniata Valley Bank. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. David A. Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 208 Lemon Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Ruth Elizabeth Maneval
LIVERPOOL - Ruth Elizabeth Maneval, 61, of Liverpool RR1, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born Sept. 14, 1938, in Greenwood Township, Perry County, she was a daughter of the late Vida I. (Sarver) and Charles E. Markle Sr. Her husband, Charles H. Maneval, whom she married March 7, 1958, survives. Also surviving are: children, Michelle M. Dougherty and Michael C. Maneval, both of Liverpool RR1; brothers, David E. Markle and Charles R. Markle Jr., both of Millerstown; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline E. M. Rhoads, on Sept. 5, 1993. She was a 1956 graduate of Greenwood Joint High School, Millerstown. She was a housewife and had been employed for many years as a cook at Benner's Restaurant, Thompsontown. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and clipping coupons. She was also an avid bingo player and enjoyed attending her granddaughter's school sporting events. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Millerstown RR1. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at George P. Garman Funeral Home, 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, with the Rev. James E. Lewis officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Millerstown RR1. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ruth Marsh
LEWISTOWN - Ruth Marsh, 72, of Lewistown RR5, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at her home. Born July 4, 1928, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Jesse (Bachman) Burnell. Her husband, William G. Marsh, died Dec. 13, 1988. Surviving are: children, Leslie Marsh, at home, William G. Marsh, Avis Marsh, Allison Marsh, Patricia Marsh, all of Lewistown, and Steven Marsh, Frederick, Md.; and four grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. She was a housewife. Services will be held at the convenience of the family, with a memorial service at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Blair T. McAteer
YEAGERTOWN - Blair T. McAteer, 56, of 44 Indian Lane, Yeagertown, died at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Hershey Medical Center. Born May 9, 1944, in London, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late George Thomas and Olive (Gallienne) McAteer. His wife, Sharon (Tate) McAteer, whom he married July 18, 1970, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Kevin N. McAteer, Port Royal and a brother, Paul Murray McAteer, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1965-1966. He was a civil engineer for 25 years, having been a consultant for various companies. He was a member of the American Legion Post 90, Lewistown; the VFW Post 7011, Lewistown; the Marine Corp League; and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family and interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
