John G. McCardle
LEWISTOWN - John G. McCardle, 68, of Old Park Road, Lewistown, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1932 in Burnham, he was a son of the late William Boyd and Ann (Swab) McCardle. His wife, Gladys (McCullough) McCardle, whom he married in 1953, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kevin McCardle, Scott McCardle, and Mrs. Michael (Kristine) Sellers, all of Old Park Road, Lewistown, and Gary McCardle, North Logan Boulevard, Burnham; a brother, Wayne McCardle, Beavertown; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was founder and owner of McCardle Refuse Company, and retired in 1998. He was a Korean Conflict veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 203 and the Yeagertown Fire Company. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. There will be no public viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Violet J. McCardle
MCCLURE - Violet J. McCardle, 77, of 80 Snook Road, McClure, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 9, 1923, in Alfarata, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Nettie (Shawver) Wray. Her husband, Leon John McCardle, whom she married Dec. 25, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: children, Donna L. Wray, Dormantown Road, McClure, and Charles M. McCardle, Lewistown; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ruben J. Wray and Grant L. Wray. Early in life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation, retiring in 1972 due to disability, with 15 years of service. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. George Mark officiating. Interment will be in the Paintersville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Richard V. McClenahen
REEDSVILLE - Richard V. McClenahen, 84, of 7 Colonial Drive, Reedsville, died at 10:22 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 1, 1916, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Vincent and Julia (Gregg) McClenahen. His wife, Esther F. (Etzweiler) McClenahen, whom he married Nov. 23, 1939, survives. Also surviving are: a son, James R. McClenahen, Shreve, Ohio; brothers and sister, Robert McClenahen, Lewistown, Ray McClenahen, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Ramon (Romaine) Bratton, Boalsburg; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. He was U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific Theatres. Early in life, he worked at the American Viscose Corporation of FMC and retired in 1980 with 40 years of service as a supervisor at Avtex. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, the Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Royal Arch Masons, and the Harrisburg Consistory. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dean M. Bobb officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

D. Romayne McCurry
BURNHAM - D. Romayne McCurry, 74, a resident of Brookline Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 204 Fifth Ave., Burnham, died at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at the manor. Born March 9, 1926, in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late William and Irma (McKinley) Treaster. Her husband, David C. McCurry Sr., died Oct. 4, 1977. She is survived by a son, William T. McCurry, 204 Fifth Ave., Burnham; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one sister and a son, David C. McCurry Jr., in 1951. She was a graduate of Bryn Mawr School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for FW Black Hospital and Lewistown Hospital, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Burnham Presbyterian Church. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at the Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no viewing and family will provide all flowers.

Stanley C. 'Bud' McDonald
RICHFIELD - Stanley C. "Bud" McDonald, 43, of HCR 63, Richfield, died of natural causes Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at his residence. Born Sept. 21, 1956, in Millerstown, he was a son of Dayton T. and Helen L. (Hoffman) McDonald Sr. of HCR 63, Richfield. Also surviving are: two brothers, Dayton T. McDonald Jr., HCR 63 Richfield, and Andy L. McDonald, Mifflintown RR1; a sister, Cindy K. Heisey, Richfield RR1; a maternal grandmother, Margaret Hoffman, Thompsontown; and a companion, Esther Adams, Richfield. A 1975 graduate of East Juniata High School, he served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard from 1975-1977. He was employed by the Maneval-Pyle Fruit Farm, Richfield. He had also been employed by Martin's Plumbing and Heating, Richfield and SEDA-COG, Mifflintown. He attended the Church of the Open Door, Evendale. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and liked to go for walks on the mountain. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Deacon Clayton R. Graybill officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery, HCR 63 Richfield. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family willreceive friends 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his burial fund, c/o Andy L. McDonald, RR1, Box 1122, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Harvey J. 'Jumbo' McGowan
THOMPSONTOWN - Harvey J. "Jumbo" McGowan, 71, of Thompsontown RR1, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at his residence. Born April 29, 1929 in Juniata County, he was a son of Helen (Walborn) McGowan Campbell of Lewisberry and the late Harvey McGowan. His wife, Patty McGowan of Thompsontown RR1, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kenneth G. McGowan, Mifflin and Mrs. Terry (Anna Jane) Beachel, Thompsontown; brothers and sisters, Robert McGowan and Grace Keister, both of Harrisburg, Clarence McGowan, Thompsontown, Shirley Gotwalt, Lewisberry, Anna Leigh, Loysville and Jane Miller, Port Royal; step-sons and step-daughters, Harry and Ralph Rice, Pat Maneval and Helen Smith, all of Thompsontown, Robert Rice, Millerstown, Paul Rice, McAlisterville, Bessie Speece, Mifflintown, Jean De Marco, Port Royal and Shirley Hargett, Mifflin; two grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. He retired from Stanley Springs, Harrisburg. He attended Grace Covenant Church, Center. He was a 50-year, life-member of the Millerstown Loyal Order of Moose No. 925, and a member of the Newport American Legion Post No. 177. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the David Myers Funeral Home, Second and Walnut streets, Newport. Interment will be in Wrights Church Cemetery, Millerstown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Glenn E. Mengle
MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Glenn Eugene Mengle, 62, of Main Street, Mount Pleasant Mills, died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in the emergency room of the Sunbury Community Hospital. Born Sept. 4, 1937, in Perry Township, Snyder County, he was the son of the late Herman and Anna (Walters) Mengle. His wife, Faye M. (Heintzelman) Mengle, whom he married Aug. 6, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: children, Kenneth E. Mengle, HCR 72, Selinsgrove, Mrs. Gregory A. (Jodi A.) Shaffer, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, and Mrs. Robert D. (Victoria A.) DeWitt, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1; brothers and sisters, Herman "Palmer" Mengle, Liverpool RR1, John Mengle, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, Leroy Mengle, York, Dorothy Feltman, Selinsgrove, Luella Shellenberger and Mrs. Charles (Arlene) Creamer, both of Mechanicsburg, and Mrs. William (Martha) Fosselman, McAlisterville RR1; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Mengle. He was a 1955 graduate of Middleburg Joint High School. He was employed by Weis Markets, Milton, where he was a fork lifter from 1974 until present. He was a member of the Aline United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1. He was also a member of the Fremont Volunteer Fire Company, Mount Pleasant Mills, Richfield Ambulance Company and the Reliance Hose Company Ambulance League, Middleburg. For many years, he was a regular blood donor for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, with Pastor James E. Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant Mills. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Aline United Methodist Church-Building Fund, PO Box 15, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA 17853.

Kenneth Lamar "Francie" Mengle
MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Kenneth Lamar "Francie" Mengle, 78, of Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, Died at 6:12 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home after an extended illness. Born May 23, 1922, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, he was a son of the late James F. and Ida (Chubb) Benner-Mengle. His wife, Orpha L. Lauver, whom he married Feb. 12, 1941, survives. Also surviving are: children, George A. Mengle, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, and Mrs. Neil F. (Carol M.) Schnure, West Palm Beach, Fla.; half-brothers, Arlington Mengel, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, and Howard Benner Sr., Selinsgrove; sisters, Faye Moyer, Freeburg HCR, and Mrs. Warren "Barney" (Betty) Snyder, California, Md.; four grandchildren, five great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ronald B. Schnure, in 1989; three half-brothers, Leroy Mengle, Arthur Mengle Sr. and Robert Benner; three half-sisters, Almera Graham, Lenna Wright and Pauline Snyder. He attended Upper Heister Valley Grammar schoolhouse in Mount Pleasant Mills RR1. He was employed at Wood-Mode Inc., Kreamer, as a cabinet maker from 1974 until his retirement in 1987. Before that, he was engaged in farming and was employed by the Apple-Mengel Fruit Farms, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and had several terms on its church council. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery Board; Richfield Volunteer Fire Compnay and Ambulance League; Fremont Volunteer Fire Company, Mount Pleasant Mills; the Medic 55 of Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg; AAA, Sunbury; the Snyder County Farm Bureau; American Association of Retired persons; and a former member of the National Rifle Association and the Richfield Sportsmen's Association. When his health permitted, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. Andrew C. Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, RR 2 Box 25, Mount Pleasant Mills, PA 17853 or Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837. George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills, is in charge of arrangement.
