Elsie L. Amspacker
MIFFLIN - Elsie L. Amspacker, 93, of the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin, formerly of Thompsontown, died at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the village, where she had been a resident since December 1995. Born May 3, 1907, in Delaware Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Emmanuel and Alice (Markel) Landis. Her husband, Charles E. Amspacker, whom she married Oct. 10, 1940, died Nov. 18, 1987. She is survived by: two sisters, Esther Landis Swatsworth, Thompsontown, and Sarah Landis Dunn, Enola; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother and sisters, Amos Landis, Myrtle Smith, Lena Queen, Mary Mathias, Maggie O'Donnel, Cora Smee, Edna Wright and Daisy Landis. She attended East Salem Grade School. She was employed by the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot during World War II; the Pennsylvania State Government; she delivered Manbeck's bread; and worked as a seamstress in the shirt factories in McAlisterville, East Salem, Mifflin and Thompsontown. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Thompsontown RR1, where she sang in the choir; the Juniata County Republican Committee; the Belleville Meat Canning Project; and she helped make Easter Eggs for the Lutheran Church in McAlisterville. She was a volunteer at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin and she enjoyed camping. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Dr. John C. Libelt officiating. Interment will follow in the East Salem Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, where family will be present to receive friends 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Locust Grove Retirement Village, HCR 67 Box 7, Mifflin, PA 17058.

Elwood D. Amspacker
DUNCANNON - Elwood D. Amspacker, 82, of 9A Rebecca Drive, Duncannon, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown. Born Sept. 11, 1917, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Edna (Hubler) Amspacker. His wife, Louise (Kauffman) Amspacker, survives. Also surviving are: children, Elwood D. Amspacker Jr., Camp Hill, Eddie Amspacker, Middletown, Connie Myers, Dillsburg, Cheryl Amspacker, Dover, and Cathy Rogers, Indianapolis, IN; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Thompsontown High School. He was the retired owner of New Buffalo Restaurant. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McAlisterville; the Masonic Perry Lodge 458 F&AM; the Perry-Juniata Shrine; the Harrisburg Consistory; the Zembo Temple; and a member and past president of the Duncannon Lions Club. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Ronald C. L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with the Rev. James Bricker officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, West Main Street, McAlisterville, PA 17049 or to Alzheimer's Disease, 600 N. 12th St., Suite 5, Lemoyne, PA 17043.

David Earl Anderson
LEWISTOWN - David Earl Anderson, 52, of 2126 Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the residence of his sister, along Route 522 North, Lewistown. Born July 21, 1948, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William D. and Ada A. (Lockett) Anderson. His fiance, with whom he resided, Susan McHenry, survives. Also surviving are: children; Scott B. Anderson, Milton, David E. Anderson Jr., Fort Carson, Colo., and Shawn D. Anderson and Michael D. Anderson, both of Lewistown; brothers and sisters; Shirley Ferguson, Alfarata and Lester E. Anderson, Loveland, Colo. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Gene and Raymond Anderson. He was a 1966 graduate of the Chief Logan High School. He was a Protestant by faith. He worked in Machine Shop 1 at Standard Steel, Burnham, retiring in 1984, after 18 years of service, due to disability. He was an avid bow hunter and rifle hunter, and an avid fisherman. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Longfield officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Charles H. Applegit
MCALISTERVILLE - Charles H. Applegit, 68, of McAlisterville RR2, formerly of Carney's Point, NJ, died at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his home. Born Dec. 8, 1931, in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Howard P. and Margaret (Barnes) Applegit. His wife, Dora E. (Varner) Applegit, whom he married in 1959, died Dec. 29, 1995. Surviving are: children, Sheila J. McCauley, Pennsville, NJ, Norman Ladlee, Franklin, NC, and Jack Ladlee, Carney's Point, NJ; a brother, John Applegit, Springdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. He was a 1949 graduate of Roxbury High School, Sucasuna, NJ. He served in the United States Army for five years. He was employed as an inspector for General Motor's Boxwood Road Plant, Wilmington, Del. He enjoyed repairing lawn mowers. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Walter E. Williams officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville. Friends may call from noon until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

David L. Armstrong
PORTAGE, Ind. - David L. Armstrong, 71, of Portage, Ind., died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his residence. Born July 5, 1929, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Lewis Carl and Hattie Sarah (Hackett) Armstrong. His wife, Mary Ann (Schramm) Armstrong, whom he married Feb. 12, 1972, in Portage, Ind., survives. Also surviving are: children, David L. Armstrong II, Chesterton, Ind., Douglas L. Armstrong and Mrs. Van (Suzanne R.) Tuley, both of Portage, Ind., Robert D. Armstrong, Mrs. Charles (Teresa) Fawley, Rhonda S. Armstrong, and Jill E. Armstrong, all of Michigan City, Ind.; brother and sisters, Eugene Armstrong, Spruce Hill, Pauline Bamford, Betty Shank, and Mrs. Sam (Joyce) Rocko, all of Lewistown; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers, Crawford Armstrong and Charles Armstrong, and one grandson, David Armstrong III. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a superintendent in the roll shop of Midwest Steel. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Savior Parish and the Retirees Club of Midwest Steel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with the Rev. Father Patrick Kalich officiating. Interment will be in Heritage Cemetery, Portage, Ind. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mary Ann 'Gab' Arnold
MOUNT UNION - Mary Ann "Gab" Arnold, 58, of 208 W. Shirley St., Mount Union, died at 7:39 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1941, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence "Pete" and Fay (Traxler) Shehan. Her husband, Charles William Arnold, whom she married Feb. 26, 1958, survives. Also surviving are: a companion of 30 years, Russell "Buck" Payne Jr., 208 W. Shirley St., Mount Union; children, Steven C. Arnold, Clinton, Md. and Mrs. Michael (Christine) Petron, Mount Union; sisters and brother, Mrs. Dale (Mildred) Peterson, Three Springs, Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Hand, Mount Union, and Dennis L. Shehan, Mapleton; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, William L. Arnold and a sister, Shirley Smith. She was a homemaker. She was Protestant by faith. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Christopher Heinlin officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Lois Vera Augustine
NEW CUMBERLAND - Lois Vera Augustine, 84, of New Cumberland, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at her residence. Born Jan. 9, 1916, in Mt. Carmel, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Sarah J. (Howells) Jones. She is survived by two sons, Edward B. Augustine and Robert G. Augustine, both of New Cumberland; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was a 1934 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1961 graduate of Carlisle Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She was retired as supervisor of Central Supply for Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, Highland Park, Camp Hill; a member and past president of the Highland Park Womens Club, Camp Hill; a past volunteer of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program, New Cumberland; and was a former den mother and volunteer for cub scouting. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, with the Rev. Russell H. Mueller officiating. Interment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township (Camp Hill). There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of Central PA, 98 South Enola Drive, PO Box 266, Enola, PA 17025 Myers-Harner Funeral Home, Camp Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley C. 'Pop' Auker
MIFFLINTOWN - Stanley C. "Pop" Auker, 74, of Mifflintown RR4, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home. Born April 25, 1926, in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Cloyd and Mary (Pannebaker) Auker. His wife, Ethel Ann (Snyder) Auker, died Jan. 7, 1971. He is survived by a companion of 26 years, Avis A. Geedey. Also surviving are: children, Elwood S. Auker, Port Royal RR2, Edward W. Auker, Mifflintown RR4, Richard E. Auker, East Lynn, W. Va., Mark L. Auker, McClure RR4, Kim R. Auker, Mifflintown RR5, Sharlene "Sissy" Snyder, Juniata Haven Campground, Mifflin, Theresa D. Walters, Milroy, and Tina K. Shumaker, Mount Holly Springs RR2; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had worked with various area contractors in plumbing and construction and retired from Overhead Door, Lewistown as a door builder. He was a former member of the Mifflintown VFW and the Brooklyn Hose Company. He enjoyed working on vehicles. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Glen Peachey officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where military services will be conducted by the Juniata Veterans Council. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
