Sara Y. Sharadin
MCCLURE - Sara Y. Sharadin, 71, of McClure, died at 8:24 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown. Born Jan. 11, 1929, in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Ira L. and Sara (Herbein) Yoder. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Dr. Harold L. Sharadin, whom she married on June 23, 1951. Also surviving are: two daughters, Louise M. Sharadin, Hanover and Susan S. Gordon, Livonia, Mich; two sons, John H. Sharadin, Houston, Texas and Benjamin L. Sharadin, Pennsville, NJ; a sister, Ruth DeLong, Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Ira L. Yoder, Merino Valley, Calif. and Allen D. Yoder, Middleburg; and eight grandchildren. She was a 1946 graduate of Middleburg High School and a 1950 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She was employed as a teacher by the Oil City schools and later as a substitute teacher by the West Snyder School System. She was active in the American Cancer Society; was a member and past matron of the Lafayette Chapter 222 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Selinsgrove; American Legion Auxiliary, McClure post; McClure Women's Club, of which she served as past president; Pennsylvania State Federation of Women's Clubs, of which she served as state secretary; Shade Mountain Lady's Golf Association; Penn State Alumni Association; Nittany Lion Club; Snyder County Historical Society; Lewistown Bridge Club; and Pearl Harbor Survivors Auxiliary. She also served as vice chairperson for the Snyder County Republican Committee for 12 years; on the Williamsport Area Community College Executive Council; several terms as Snyder County Auditor; on the Pennsylvania State Governor's Crime Commission; and as a school director on the West Snyder and Midd-West school boards. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, where she taught Sunday school, was choir director and a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Beaver Lutheran Church, Route 522, Beaver Springs. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 168, McClure, PA 17841. Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg is handling the funeral arrangements.

Crist D. Sharp
BELLEVILLE - Crist D. Sharp, 84, of 401 Center Drive, Belleville, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at his home. Born Dec. 18, 1915, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Fannie (Detweiler) Sharp. His first wife, Bertha (Good) Sharp, died Dec. 9, 1976 and his second wife, Malinda R. (Kauffman) Sharp, whom he married Nov. 25, 1978, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. John (Ruth Ann) Himmelreich and Paul D. Sharp, both of Landisburg, Emma Jane Sharp, Lewisburg, Raymond C. Sharp, Eagle River, Alaska, Norman L. Sharp, New Holland, C. Duane Sharp and Joseph W. Sharp, both of Mifflinburg, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Litwiller, Lancaster, Melvin E. Sharp, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mrs. Christopher (Mary) Cardin, Cumming, Ga.; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Fannie Yoder, Mifflinburg, David D. Sharp, New Holland, Joseph S. Sharp, Athens, Mrs. Korie (Lizzie Mae) Hostetler, HCR 61 Mill Creek, Simon H. Sharp, Harrington, Del., John P. Sharp, Reedsville, and Mrs. Daniel (Sadie) Byler, Mifflintown RR1; 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Diana Sharp, and a brother, Jesse D. Sharp. He was a farmer, retiring in 1970; a carpenter for three years; and worked in maintenance for the Mifflinburg Area School District for three years. He was a member of Barrville Mennonite Church; served as a deacon at Buffalo Mennonite Church from 1961-1978; and a former member of the Gideons. He was a van driver for the Amish and an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Allensville Mennonite Church, and at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Buffalo Mennonite Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. James Brubaker, the Rev. Gerald Peachey, and the Rev. Raymond S. Peachey officiating. Interment will be in the Buffalo Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Allensville Mennonite Church and from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the Buffalo Mennonite Church, Lewisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to: Barrville Mennonite Church, 48 Barrville Mountain Road, Reedsville, PA 17084 or to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.

John D. 'Jack' Shawley,
HOLLIDAYSBURG - John D. "Jack" Shawley, 71, of 1401 Walnut St., Hollidaysburg, died Monday Dec. 18, 2000, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital. Born June 30, 1929, in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late David and Irene (Little) Shawley. His wife, Marjorie A. (Love) Shawley of Hollidaysburg, whom he married July 18, 1953, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mark L. Shawley and Mrs. Richard J. (Jill A.) Lasek, both of Hollidaysburg, and Mrs. Jeffrey M. (Faith R.) Nelson, Tipton; a sister, Dolores Ott, Boalsburg; and three grandchildren. He was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the United States Army Air Corp. He worked in the Blair County Department of Weights and Measures, retiring in 1991, with 8 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hollidaysburg. He was also a member of the Hollidaysburg American Legion; was a past board member and former caretaker of Legion Park; a member of the Allegheny Club; a member of the Bavarian Aid Society; and a member of the Juniata Lodge 282 F&AM. He enjoyed antiques and flea markets. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Plank, Stitt, & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, with Pastor Kenneth Longfield officiating. Interment will be held in Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where a masonic service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Play Park at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg, PA or to the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

Florence E. Smith
LEWISTOWN - Florence E. Smith, 88, of 33 E. Chestnut St. Extended, Lewistown, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 30, 1911, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (McGirk) Smith. She is survived by sisters, Helen Mae Smith and Bella V. Smith, both of 33 E. Chestnut St. Extended, Lewistown. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. She worked at the American Viscose Corporation in the cake wrapping department for 44 years. She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Roger R. Reece officiating. Interment will be held at the Lewistown Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Sun Home Health Hospice, 2 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Harry E. Smith
LIVERPOOL - Harry E. Smith, 64, of Liverpool RR1, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at his home. Born on March 31, 1936, in Middletown, he was the son of the late George and Virginia (Bailey) Smith. His former wife, Ruth Boyle Smith of Liverpool RR1, survives. Also surviving are: children, Paul W. Smith of Middletown; George W. Smith of Liverpool; Tammy L. Luckenbill of Harrisburg; Amelia E. Richmond of Liverpool; Robin M. Hiester of McAlisterville; Beulah "Bee" Strawser of McAlisterville; Diane M. Smith of McAlisterville; sisters and brothers, Margaret Brubaker of Liverpool; Dorothy Hammaker of Port Royal; Betty Zososke of California; Diana Herria of Washington; Paul Barner of New Jersey; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Barner, and by two brothers, Howard and Paul Smith, and one sister, Thelma Barner. He attended Greenwood schools. He was a retired state capital policeman in Harrisburg. He also worked as a private investigator and was also employed as a chef in various area restaurants. He was a member of the Calvary Temple of Harrisburg; Fraternal Order of Police; Liverpool American Legion; Oriental Valley Sportsmen's Club; National Rifle Association; Veteran's Affairs Association; American Association of Retired Persons; and several Christian organizations. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing the guitar and singing and spending time with family. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Theodore A. Janke officiating. Interment will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Harrisburg. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

James Leon Smith
GRANVILLE - James Leon Smith, 37, of 73 Jimmy Fisher Lane, Granville, died of natural causes at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born March 18, 1963, in Lewistown, he was a son of Gerald E. Smith Sr. of 3882 Back Maitland Road, McClure and Kay (Fisher) Smith of 73 Jimmy Fisher Lane, Granville. Also surviving are: a daughter, Richelle N. Ehrenzeller, Thompsontown RR1; and brothers, David J. Smith, Lewistown and Gerald E. "Jay" Smith, Granville. He was a 1981 graduate of Lewistown High School with a vo-tech education. He also attended Ohio Institute of Electronics, Columbus, Ohio. He was an electronics engineer for Cardinal TV & Appliance, Yeagertown and cashier for Giant Foods Inc., Lewistown. He was a member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church and Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous for 14 years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Mark Brower officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kay Smith, PO Box 29, Granville, PA 17029.

Richard E. Smith
POTTERS MILLS - Richard E. Smith, 85, a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Potters Mills, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona. Born May 14, 1915, in State College, he was the son of the late Earl and Jennie (Wilson) Smith. His wife, Nancy Jane (Brown) Smith, whom he married in January of 1948, died June 2, 1984. Surviving are: a son, Richard E. Smith, Millerstown; sisters and brother, Betty Guerriero, Castanea, Mary Ann Taylor and M. Louise Reish, both of Potters Mills, Dolores McGinness, Zion, and Paul "Pete" Smith, Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa. He was employed as a laborer at Martin Marietta Lime Plant, Pleasant Gap for 27 years. He was a member of the Smith Sweetwood VFW Post 9575, Potters Mills. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, with the Rev. Dean Rupe officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Richard L. Smith
TRUXTON, NY - Richard L. Smith, 64, of 3769 Main St., Truxton, NY, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Cortland Memorial Hospital. Born June 12, 1936, in McAlisterville, he was a son of the late Cloyd and Mary (Dunn) Smith. He is survived by a companion, Pauline Gratton. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Paul (Michelle) Donovan and Jeffrey Smith, both of Luray, VA; brother and sister, James Smith, Mechanicsburg, and Ellen Ehrenzeller, McAlisterville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ardella Nerhood, and a brother, John Smith. He had been employed as a television cable contractor for Marathon Box, Marathon, NY. He enjoyed traveling, and was an avid sportsman who liked fishing and hunting. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. Karl R. Herman officiating. The Donald L. Barber Funeral Home Inc., 5016 N. Main St., Homer, NY, is in charge of arrangements.
