Anna Ruth Stoner
MECHANICSBURG - Anna Ruth Stoner, 85, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Mifflintown RR5 (Mexico), died at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at the Messiah Village. Born Sept. 22, 1915, in Millerstown, Blair County, she was the daughter of the late John Andrew and Martha Esther (Book) Stoner. Surviving are: a sister, Sarah Oldham, Blandburg and a brother, Jess B. Stoner, Mechanicsburg. She was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Russell, David, Roy , Glenn A. and Mary Beth Stoner. She was a retired seamstress who worked in various local sewing factories. She was a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Letner and the Rev. Marilyn Ebersole officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, RR4, Box 4715, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to Messiah Village Endowment Fund, Box 2015, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055-2015.

Walter H. Stoner Sr.
MIFFLINTOWN - Walter H. Stoner Sr., 66, of Mifflintown RR3, died at 11:09 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born June 30, 1934, in Juniata County, he was the son of Virginia S. (Horning) Stoner of Mifflintown RR4 and the late John E. Stoner. His wife, Dixie L. (Shivery) Stoner, whom he married Nov. 8, 1957, survives. Also surviving are: children, Linda Freed and Marie Phillips, both of Mifflin, and Walter "Herb" Stoner Jr., Mifflintown RR3; brothers, Lee A. Stoner, Lewistown and John E. Stoner Jr., Wormleysburg; and five grandchildren. He was a 1953 graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown. He was a United States Army veteran. He worked out of Laborer's Local 1180 from 1972 until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed hunting and bird watching. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Guss Funeral home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Louise Knotts officiating. Interment will be in Lost Creek Mennonite Cemetery, Oakland Mills, where military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

H. Deryl Stong
PORT ROYAL - H. Deryl Stong, 51, of Port Royal RR2 (Walnut), died at 11:26 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in the emergency room of the Lewistown Hospital of natural causes. Born Aug. 8, 1949, in Beale Township, Juniata County, he was the son of Rex O. and Katherine "Kit" (Milliken) Stong of Port Royal RR2. His wife, Dorothy J. (Arentz) Stong, whom he married Oct. 31, 1969, survives. Also surviving are: children, Curtis A. Stong, Mifflintown RR3, Mrs. Keith (Gwen A.) Nipple, Thompsontown RR1, and Mrs. Allan (Lisa J.) Noss, HC-67, Mifflin; sisters, Mrs. Jim (Dixie) Hunter, Port Royal RR2, Mrs. Max (Pat) Henry, HC-67, Mifflin, and Mrs. Bill (Donna) Evelyn, East Waterford RR1; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin E. Stong on Aug. 6, 1991. He had worked for PennDOT, Mifflintown before retiring with 18 years of service. He presently owned and operated Stong's Auto Parts, Mifflintown. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 925, Millerstown and the Lost Creek Golf Club, Oakland Mills. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. James A. Neimond officiating. Interment will be in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal RR2. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, HC-63, Box 30, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Herman L. 'Toot' Stroup
RICHFIELD - Herman L. "Toot" Stroup, 87, of Richfield RR1 (Evendale), died at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born May 18, 1913, in Oriental, he was the son of the late Abram and Minnie (Miller) Stroup. His wife, Hilma I. (Lesher) Stroup, whom he married May 30, 1936, died Dec. 17, 1998. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Bruce (Janet) Messimer, Mrs. Raymond (Carol) Kantz Hoffman, James E. Stroup, and Mrs. Regis (Alice) Powell, all of Richfield, Abram Stroup, McAlisterville RR1, Leroy S. Stroup, HCR 63 Richfield and Mrs. James (Doris) Kratzer, Selinsgrove; a sister, Florence Nace, HCR 63, Richfield; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Elwood Stroup and Warren Stroup and a great-granddaughter. He attended Cocolamus and Evendale schools. He worked for his father in a sawmill; was a self-employed lumberman; and worked as a machinist for Colonial Furniture, Freeburg from 1969 until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fixing things. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brown's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RR2, with the Rev. Ronald E. Landis and the Rev. C. Richard Beech officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Church Building Fund, RR2, Box 2395, McAlisterville, PA 17049. The Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, is in charge of arrangements.

Audra B. Stuck
SHIREMANSTOWN - Audra B. Stuck, 78, of Shiremanstown, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township. Born July 26, 1921, in Coalport, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mabel (McMullen) Bloom. Her husband, William D. Stuck, survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Audra J. Snyder, Phoenixville, Marcia A. Duryea, Amityville, N.Y. and Karen E. Johnson, Hollis, N.H.; sisters, Donna Wise, Lewistown and Frances Koser, Mechanicsburg; and 12 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick, 212 State St., Harrisburg. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Township. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick, 212 State St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17103, or to PA Pro Life Federation, 4800 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa. 17109.

Janet J. Stuck
BURNHAM - Janet J. Stuck, 81, of 625 Highland Ave., Burnham, died at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Mary (Bulick) Smoker. Her husband, Foster William "Jake" Stuck, died in 1970. Surviving are: children, Mrs. James (Mary) Goss and James A. Stuck, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Mark (Roberta) Norris, Burnham, and Mrs. Gary (Linda) North, Reedsville; sisters and brother, Mary Baker, Allensville, Ruby Harmon, Cramer, and Fern Smoker, Mill Creek; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet A. Norris and Ruby F. Stuck and one son, Robert W. Stuck. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Belleville Lutheran Church and a life member of the Yeagertown Fire Company ladies auxiliary. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Belleville. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

John Z. Stump Sr.
MIFFLIN - John Z. Stump Sr., 83, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, HC-67, Mifflin, formerly of Mifflintown RR3, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at the village. Born July 2, 1917, in Mifflin, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Zook) Stump. His wife, Dorothy S. (Schlegel) Stump, whom he married July 25, 1936, survives. Also surviving are: children, John Z. Stump Jr., Mifflintown RR3, Rev. Charles L. Stump, Altoona, and Mary Kay Mantel, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Kauffman, and a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Stump. In early life, he worked as a welder for 22 years at Standard Steel, Burnham and later became a self-employed farmer and retired as a building contractor and land developer. He was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown and had served on the planning commission of Milford Township. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 109 N. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Warren Q. "Doc" Stump
MIFFLINTOWN - Warren Q. "Doc" Stump, 86, of 411 Village Drive, Mifflintown, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 19, 1913, in Lack Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Edmund K. and Janie (Pyles) Stump. His wife, Florence (Manbeck) Stump, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Edmund K. Stump, Tempe, Ariz., W. Quig Stump, Bellefonte, and Thad V. Stump, Gilbert, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Agnes) Walker, Nazareth; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry M. Stump, on May 21, 1992; two brothers, Ross A. Stump and Fred A. Stump; and five sisters, Helen Stump, Edna M. Stump, Pauline Hower, Betty Sherman and Pat Chambers. He was a 1932 graduate of Mifflintown High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific and European theaters. In earlier life he worked for the Hawes Refractories, Hawstone and W.H. Manbeck, Mifflin. He was a very active member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown, where he had served as an elder, trustee, past Sunday school superintendent, and past Junior Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863 and the American Legion Post 298, both of Mifflintown; a volunteer for the Juniata County Meals on Wheels; and served on the Juniata County School Board for 12 years. He had served for 23 years as the Cub Master for the Mifflintown Cub Scout Troop and he was awarded by the Juniata Valley Boy Scout Council the Gold Medal, the Silver Beaver Award, and the Good Scout Award. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, corner of Third and Lemon streets, Mifflintown, with Pastor David A. Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. The family will provide all funeral flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 208 Lemon St., Mifflintown, PA 17059. The Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.
