Mildred E. Grassmyer Yoder
MCVEYTOWN - Mildred E. Grassmyer Yoder, 90, of the Rothrock Apartments, West Holiday Street, McVeytown, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 28, 1910, in Roaring Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Amanda (Smith) Claar. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lloyd Grassmyer, whom she married in August of 1961, died March 1, 1979 and Guy S. Yoder, whom she married in 1980, died Dec. 29, 1985. Surviving are: a daughter, Jacqueline M. Barth, McVeytown; stepchildren, Samuel Yoder and Betty Hartsock, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Swigart, Carlisle, Mrs. Rodney (Linda) Laub, Jersey Shore, and Mrs. Lee (Marjorie) Gill, Winfield; a sister, Beulah Smith, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cloyd Claar and Jacob Claar. Early in life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation and later worked as a waitress at Cargill's Restaurant for 28 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Samuel C. 'Milliken Sam' Yoder
BELLEVILLE - Samuel C. "Milliken Sam" Yoder, 92, of 95 S. Kishacoquillas St., Belleville, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 26, 1908, in Reedsville, he was the son of the late Christian B. and Fannie E. (Kauffman) Yoder. His wife, Arie E. (Byler) Yoder, died May 13, 1969. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Sollie (Anna) Hostetler, Mary Kurtz, Esther Peachey, Samuel L. Yoder, and Mrs. David (Arlene) Spicher, all of Belleville, Mrs. Ben (Elsie) Yoder, Millersburg, Mrs. John (Beulah) Kauffman, and Raymond W. Yoder, both of Reedsville, David W. Yoder, McVeytown, Mrs. Leon (Frances) Kanagy, Marion, Marlin Yoder and John Yoder, both of Buhler, Kan.; sisters, Fannie Yoder, Lititz, Sue Peachey, Goshen, Ind., and Nora Yoder, Belleville; 50 grandchildren and 120 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Lydia Sharp, Annie Stoltzfus, Barbara Peachey, Jonathan Yoder, Levi Yoder, Nancy Yoder, Mary Yoder, and Lizzie Yoder; an infant brother; one grandson and three great-grandchildren. He retired from New Holland in 1970 after 29 years in the foundry. He was a member of Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, Green Lane, Belleville, with ministers, Bishop David J. Peachey and Deacon Earl Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Pleasant View Amish Mennonite Church, c/o David J. Peachey, 50 Peach Run Lane, Reedsville, PA 17084. The Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W. Main St., Belleville, is in charge of arrangements.

Seth T. Yoder
MCALISTERVILLE - Seth T. Yoder, 78, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at his home. Born March 7, 1922, in Allensville, he was the son of the late Seth and Hettie (Peachey) Yoder. His wife, Emma (Swarey) Yoder, whom he married Dec. 14, 1944, died March 17, 1983. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Jonas (Susie) Petersheim, Mrs. Roman (Sarah) Troyer, Hettie Brewer, Mrs. Dan (Lena) Weaver, Jacob Yoder, Dave Yoder, and Mrs. David (Anna) Weaver, all of Mifflintown; Mrs. John A. (Lydia) Troyer, Freemond, Mich., Christ Yoder, Alaska, Stephen Yoder, Kore Yoder, and Seth Yoder Jr., all of McAlisterville; a sister, Mary Swarey, Stuarts Draft, Va.; 54 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie Yoder; brother and sisters, Rufus Yoder, Lizzie Peachey and Annie Byler. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Daniel Weaver residence, Mifflintown RR2, with Joe Swarey and John Petersheim officiating. Interment will be in the Old Order Amish Cemetery, Van Wert. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today at the Seth Yoder residence, McAlisterville RR2. The Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Brendan Robert Young
MIFFLINTOWN - Brendan Robert Young, infant son of David R. and Lesa M. (Detra) Young of Mifflintown was stillborn at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He is also survived by maternal grandmother, Helen M. Detra of Mifflin; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, George and Nancy Gross of Liverpool; maternal great-grandmother, Helen M. Jones, of Mifflin; three aunts and one uncle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bethany Elizabeth Love, and a grandfather, Timothy A. Detra. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Kelley officiating. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Central Juniata EMS, HC 63 Box 48E, Mifflintown, PA 17059. The Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third St., Mifflintown, is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia J. Zeiders
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Virginia J. Zeiders, 71, of Naperville, Ill., formerly of Mifflintown and Thompsontown, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, at her residence. Born July 2, 1929, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob D. Miller and Esther L. Knepp. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy D. Bashore, Naperville, Ill.; a son, Gary R. Zeiders, Mifflintown; a sister, CeCelia Dippery, Santa Clara, Calif.; and one granddaughter. She was a 1947 graduate of Lewistown High School. She had been employed as a seamstress for Shellenberger & Sons Shirt Factory, McAlisterville and Cluett-Peabody (Arrow) Shirt Factory, Lewistown. She retired from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Business Taxes. She was a member of the PSECU Retirees and AARP as well as a former member of the Metropolitan Area Singles, Harrisburg. She was also a volunteer for the Naper Settlement, Naperville, Ill. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Polly Milakovic officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Thomas Hospice, 8230 S. Madison St., Burr Ridge, IL 60520 or to the American Lung Association, 205 E. Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801.

William H. Zeigler
REEDSVILLE - William H. Zeigler, 70, of 17 Overhill Road, Reedsville, died at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his residence. Born July 31, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Frank C. and Margaret (Jones) Zeigler. His wife, Mary (Diven) Zeigler, died Sept. 24, 1991. Surviving are: children, William M. Zeigler, Church Hill, Reedsville and Mrs. Wayne (Lisa K.) Addleman, Nashville, Tenn.; and one grandchild. He was a self-employed electrician and plumber. He attended Church Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lewistown Elks Lodge 663; the Nittany Lions Club; the Fame Fire Co.; the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co.; the Yeagertown Fire Co.; the Masonic Lodge 203 F&AM; the Jaffa Temple, Altoona; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harrisburg; the Potters Mills Vets; and the Milroy American Legion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Brookline Homecare & Hospice, 230 S. Edward C. Zendt
DUNCANNON - Edward C. Zendt, 80, of 388 Linton Hill Road, Duncannon, died at 4:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born April 3, 1920 in McCoysville, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Elsie (Woodward) and Edward Whitney Zendt. His wife Doris (Weimer) Zendt, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946, survives, residing at 388 Linton Hill Road, Duncannon. Also surviving are: sons, Gary L. Zendt, Hampton, Va. and James E. and Donald R. Zendt, both of Mechanicsburg; a brother and sister, Paul Zendt, Camp Hill and Mrs. Martha Stump, Fullerton Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in South America and Panama. He worked as a pipefitter for Conrail in Enola before retiring. He was a former member of the American Legion, Duncannon. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton J. Roberson officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 5020 Ritter Road, Suite 103, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, or to the American Heart Association, HC 63 Box 30, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Helen B. Zimmerman
PORT ROYAL - Helen B. Zimmerman, 62, of Port Royal RR2, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at her home. Born July 19, 1937, in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Wagner) Fultz. Her husband Marlin H. Zimmerman, whom she married April 9, 1945, died Oct. 16, 1999. Surviving are: daughters, Yvonne S. Arnold, Port Royal, Terry D. Rhea, Mifflintown RR2, Renee M. Graybill, Port Royal RR1 and Darlene C. Leach, Thompsontown RR2; brothers, George Fultz, Thompsontown, Charles C. Fultz, Reedsville and Sherman Q. Fultz, Mifflintown; sisters, Hilda Elder and Rebecca Burd, both of Mifflintown, Athalia Specht, Lewistown and Bertha Pennepacker, Belleville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta K. Zimmerman, on Aug. 7, 1954; a sister, Sylvia Cherry and a brother, Nicholas Fultz. She was privately employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, Port Royal and Women of the Moose, Lodge No. 925, Millerstown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Port Royal Lutheran Church, 408 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Marton Roberson officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Mifflintown RR3. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown and there will be no viewing at the church on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Helen B. Zimmerman Memorial Fund, c/o Omega Bank, PO Box J, Mifflin, PA 17058.
