Charles C. Brown, Jr.

Charles C. Brown, Jr., 63, of 137 Old Orchard Rd, Milton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, February 2, 2010.

He was born November 22, 1946, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Charles C. Sr. and Thelma L. (Boop) Brown. He and his wife of 29 years, the former Doris A. Hovenstine, were marriage September 6, 1980.

After graduation from Milton High School in 1965, Charles was a Motor Pool Sergeant in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.

He worked at the former Philco/Ford, later Zenith, in Watsontown and then retired from International Paper in Lewisburg when the plant closed.

His hobbies included collecting guns and tractors and restoring CJ series Jeeps. Charles enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and dog.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle K. and Bob Unroe of Milton; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian D. Krieger and Janice Raup-Krieger of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, Anna Krieger of Columbus, OH and Jordan and Nicole Unroe of Milton; a brother and sister-in-law, David W. and Susan Brown of White Deer; and two nieces, Sunny Kahley of New Columbia and Jamie Lindsey of Lakewood, OH.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second & St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bud Rutherford of Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Montandon Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701.

Emeline Leinbach Armstrong

Emeline Leinbach Armstrong, 93, formerly of Watsontown, Harrisburg, and Hershey died peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at RiverWoods in Lewisburg where she had been a longtime resident. She lived a long, satisfying and well traveled life.

Born March 9, 1916 in Watsontown, she was a daughter of the late M. Yoder and Marie (Marsh) Leinbach.

In September 1942 she marriage Dr. Hiram E. Armstrong. Together they shared 27 years of marriage until his death on Dec. 13, 1969.

After graduation from Watsontown High School she attended Bucknell University, Duke University (Class of 1937) and Yale University where she received a Master’s Degree in Nursing. She began her nursing career in Pueblo, Colorado where she met Dr. Armstrong. During World War II Emeline worked as a company nurse for the former Chef Boyardee in Milton.

In 1951 she moved to Harrisburg where she settled into the life of a homemaker while also actively volunteering in the Women’s Auxiliary to the PA Medical Society, the Dauphin County Medical Auxiliary, the Visiting Nurses Association and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Harrisburg Hospital. In 1970 she moved to Hershey, where she resided until 1997 when she returned to Watsontown.

Emeline was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Watsontown and a former member of the Paxton Presbyterian Church in Paxtang, Pennsylvania. She had a deep love of travel, culture and the arts and had the opportunity to visit much of the world with a few special friends. In 1981 she spent several months working in a Cambodian refugee camp in Thailand.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Stephan and Sherry Armstrong of Watsontown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Duane Griffin of Lewisburg and Sarah and Andrew Rotunno of Albuquerque, NM; and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Kent Leinbach, and an infant sister.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 401 Main St., Watsontown, officiated by her pastor, Rev. Paul A. Smith. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to RiverWoods Benevolent Care Fund, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Mary R. Scheesley

Mary R. Scheesley, 89, formerly of Watsontown, died, Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Kramm Healthcare Center, Milton.

Born June 27, 1921 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Reno J. and Florence (Eiler) Rose. She and her husband, Charles “Buck” E. Scheesley, were marriage August 18, 1945. They shared 45 years together until his death on April 10, 1991.

A graduate of Pottsville High School, Mary had many part time jobs at former area businesses, including Milton Silk Mills, Milton Dress Factory, Fox Knapp and Myco Manufacturing of Montgomery. She also owned and operated “Second Time Around,” a second hand clothing store in Watsontown during the early 1980’s.

Mary was of the Episcopal faith and occupied much of her time with handcrafts, including knitting, crocheting, tatting, embroidery and sewing for other people.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Elizabeth A. Scheesley of Lock Haven; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol E. and David W. Nunn of White Deer; three grandchildren, Jeremy T. Nunn of White Deer, Jolene T. and Jason Furl of Gambrills, MD and Douglas L. Scheesley of Bridgeport; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan A., Mason A. and Adelyn C. Furl of Gambrills, MD.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four sisters, Charlotte, Florene, Dorothy and Betty Lou; and two brothers, Chester and Reno.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main Street, Watsontown, followed by the funeral at 11 with Rev. Robert A. Lauver of New Life Church, Pennsdale officiating.

Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Frank L. Molinaro

Frank L. Molinaro, 87, formerly of Watsontown and Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 24, 1922 in Canonsburg, he was a son of the late Louis and Anna (Leber) Molinaro. He and his wife of 16 years, the former Patricia Sones, were marriage on May 29, 1993.

Following his 1941 graduation from Canonsburg High School, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of commander while serving in the Second World War. He served in the underwater demolition team # 21, a forerunner of the Navy SEAL. During his military career he earned a Bachelors Degree at Bloomsburg University, and obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Notre Dame and completed officers training school at Columbia University. He was also instrumental in advancing the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

After honorably serving his country, Frank became a math teacher. He taught at various area schools, including Williamsport High School, Williamsport Area Community College and Lewisburg Middle and High Schools. Frank is remembered by his students as a teacher who was always willing to go the extra mile. After retirement in 1989, he continued his love of teaching and giving back to the community by working with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit.

An expert Italian cook, his delicious meals will be missed by family and former customers of the Ploughman Restaurant in Bloomsburg, which he previously owned. Frank also possessed a passion for painting and created many fine watercolor prints for friends and family to enjoy. In addition to his other pastimes, he enjoyed collecting coins and antiques and refinishing furniture, and was renowned for his great storytelling.

Frank was a member of Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post #323, Watsontown and V.F.W. Post #1665, Milton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Dave and Sue Molinaro of Orangeville and Bruce and Barb Molinaro of McClure; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and William Halpern of Newtown; two step-daughters, Traci Burns of Annapolis and Dana (Kevin) Shrawder of Watsontown; two brothers, Robert and Joe, and two sisters, Anna and Martha, all of California; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters and one nephew.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 51 S. Third Street, Lewisburg, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m., officiated by Reverend MacKenzie Scott. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

The family welcomes flowers; however, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 57 North Franklin Street, Wilkes Barre, PA 18701.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.

Louise Strassner

Louise Strassner, 90, of Milton, died, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Kramm Healthcare & Rehabilitation, Milton.

Born February 8, 1920 in Mifflinburg, she was a daughter of the late Boyd Bryson and Sara (Speigelmyer) Mark. She and her husband, Harold Strassner Sr., were marriage on April 11, 1941. They shared 36 years together until his death on August 31, 1977.

A graduate of Mifflinburg High School, she worked as a floor supervisor for the former Muncy Mills and later was employed by the former Clinger Lumber in Milton as a Bookkeeper.

Louise was a member of First Lutheran Church in Watsontown. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards and she belonged to several card clubs. She also enjoyed knitting.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Harold, Jr. and Sharon Strassner of Middlebury, VT; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Harriet Mark of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Kurt Strassner of Nashville, TN and Kristina Strassner of Lake Worth, FL; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hemenway.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, in the Watsontown Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Kramm Healthcare and Rehabilitation, 743 Mahoning Street, Milton, PA 17847 or First Lutheran Church, 400 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.
