Abby S. Wright

Abby S. Wright, 98, formerly of 17 Canal St., Watsontown, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville, where she resided the past 7 years.

Born in Watsontown on July 23, 1912, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Schell) Young. Her husband, Frank E. Wright, preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1985.

Abby worked for many years as a clerk at the former Tommy Evans’ clothing store in Watsontown.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald W. and Connie Wright of Williamsport; two grandchildren, Frank W. Wright and wife Pamela of Montoursville, and Cynthia A. Harrison and husband Charles of Shavertown; four great-grandchildren, Adam Wright, Keri Wright, Rachel Ferguson and husband David, and Matthew Harrison; and one great-great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Ferguson.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Ethel Manno and Ellen Fisher.

Friends will be received Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Theodore L. Cockley, Chaplain at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village. Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Valley View Nursing Center, 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, PA 17754.

Philip R. Stamm

Philip R. Stamm, 74, of 395 Ridge Road, Northumberland, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at his home.

He was born December 27, 1935, in Lewisburg, the son of the late Robert H. and Joan B. (Powell) Stamm. On April 25, 1993 he marriage the former Sue Ellen Cechman, who survives.

A 1953 graduate of Lewisburg High School, he attended the RCA Institute in New York City for one year before returning to Lewisburg to join the family business, Stamm’s TV and Appliance, where he worked his entire life. He attended Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton.

An avid hunter, Phil was a member of the Okome Hunting and Fishing Club in Lycoming County. He enjoyed bowling and participated in many leagues.

He was a player, the manager and sponsor of Stamm’s Fast Pitch Softball Team which won the PA Class A State Title in 1985.

A lifelong Red Sox fan, Phil hoped for a good middle closer for the remainder of the current season.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Philip J. (Sarah) Stamm, Northumberland; three daughters Cathy S. (Craig) Ranck, Lewisburg, Cindy L. (Jim) Erdly, Allen, Texas and Christy M. Bareiss, Millheim; a step-daughter Dee (Dennis) Neamand, Watsontown; a sister, Connie Stamm Charles, Lewisburg; seven grandchildren, Daniel Khatchadourian, Frankie Bareiss, Allison and Courtney Erdly, Natalie and Kyle Ranck, and Kiran Stamm; three step-grandchildren, Amanda Stamm and Abby and Ryan Neamand; and his previous wife, Jane Wright Stamm.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Arlie E. Davis will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road, Milton. Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA, 17837, for the excellent care they gave Phil, and if desired memorial contributions in his name may be made to them or The Lewisburg Green Dragon All Sports Boosters, P.O. Box 580, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Mafalda Reitenbach

Mafalda Reitenbach, 88, of 152 Cummings St., Montandon, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Kramm Nursing Home, Milton.

She was born July 31, 1922 in Padova, Italy.

In her teens she was employed as a maid in a castle overlooking the Alps in Tarcento, Italy. It was there she met her husband of 64 years, Merlyn Reitenbach. They were marriage in Tarcento on November 30, 1946.

Mafalda was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg.

She loved gardening and tending her flowers. Mafalda enjoyed crocheting for her family and friends. She was a wonderful caretaker and was fond of children and visiting elderly people in nursing homes where she made many new friends.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Ralph Reitenbach of Baltimore, MD; a daughter & son-in-law, Giuseppina and Allen Bilger of Milton; five grandchildren, Pamela Delcamp, Kevin Bilger, Nichole Reitenbach, Jenna Reitenbach and Claire Reitenbach; and four great-grandchildren, Tierra and Schai Bilger, Travis and Anthony Delcamp.

She was predeceased by a son, Raymond Reitenbach who died in May 2001.

Friends will be received from noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2010 at Sacred Heart Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m.

Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Msgr. William M. Richardson.

Burial will follow in Montandon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Union County Unit, 57 Reitz Blvd., Suite 102, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17102 or to Macular Degeneration Association, P.O. Box 20256, Sarasota, FL 34276.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second & St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

Harold H. Bastian

Harold H. Bastian, 87, of Watsontown and formerly of Campbell, NY and Lynbrook, NY, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown.

Born July 5, 1923 in White Deer, he was a son of the late George and Alice (Wilkins) Bastian.

He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Eleanor Wenrick, of Campbell, NY in 1983 and his second wife, the former Pauline Stango of Lynbrook, NY in 2004.

Harold was a graduate of Watsontown High School and attended Williamsport Technical Institute where he learned pattern making. He served in the US Army during World War II with the 75th Infantry Division.

Following his discharge he was employed at Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post, NY as a pattern maker for 37 years.

Harold was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Campbell, NY and a member of the Lions Club, Lynbrook, NY.

His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing and watching baseball, especially the Mets.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Garry) Metcalf of Valrico, FL; a stepdaughter, Carolyn (Neil) Rotter of Sanford, NC; two stepsons, Michael (Kathy) Stango of Greensburg and James (Margaret) Stango of Coopersburg; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Garry (Brenda) Metcalf of Covington, LA, Andrew (Key) Metcalf of Raleigh, NC, Allison (Kevin) McWhirter of Charlotte, NC, Jim (Tara) Stango of Chicago, IL, Michael, Jr. (Caitlin) Stango of Cumming, GA, James Stango of Coopersburg and Annmarie Stango of Philadelphia; six great-grandchildren, Brittany Barnette, Katelyn Metcalf and Brandon Metcalf, all of Raleigh, NC, Tyler Metcalf of McLeansville, NC, Ryan McWhirter of Charlotte, NC and Charlotte Stango of Cumming, GA.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a sister & brother-in-law, Helen and Clarence Smith.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown, where his funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m.

Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Eberly, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Watsontown.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Watsontown Cemetery.

Elwood B. Frantz

Elwood B. Frantz, 92, of 222 Baylor Road, Watsontown, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at home.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.
