Paul M. Miller

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Pastor Paul M. Miller, 98, of Greencastle, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at his home.

Born Jan. 17, 1902, in Marysville, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Katie Sunday Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy M. Swartz Miller, in 1999. They were married June 21, 1932.

After attending high school, he attended Harrisburg School of the Bible. Later, he graduated from Moody Bible Institute of Chicago in 1930 and was licensed to preach in the Evangelical Church. He continued his education in extension work at The Evangelical Seminary of Reading, Pa. He was ordained as a pastor in 1933.

He served as a pastor in that denomination and its subsequent merger denominations for 37 years. He ministered to rural congregations in Central Pennsylvania including Liverpool from 1930 to 1932; Rebersburg from 1932 to 1935; Sonestown from 1935 to 1939; Avis from 1939 to 1946; Mexico from 1946 to 1948; Newport from 1948 to 1959; and Ringtown from 1959 to 1967.

He retired from the active pastorate in 1967 and moved to Shamokin Dam, Pa., where he became active in the United Methodist Church in Northumberland, Pa.

He was a member of Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle, where he was pastor emeritus.

He is survived by a daughter, Louise E. Prosser of Fairfax, Va.; a son Pastor Glen Miller of Greencastle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Bretz; and two brothers, Forrest Miller and Floyd Miller.

A local funeral service will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West in Greencastle. His son, Pastor Glen Miller, will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Further funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Mazeppa United Methodist Church in Mazeppa, Pa. His son, Pastor Glen Miller, will officiate. Burial will be in Mazeppa Union Cemetery in Mazeppa. The family will receive friends Friday at noon at the church.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Building Fund, Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, PA 17225.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Melvin W. Ganoe

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Melvin W. Ganoe, 71, of 2140 Buchanan Trail West, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Nov. 25, 1928, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Albert and Eva Yost Ganoe.

In his earlier years, he worked at the former Maugansville Elevator. In 1969, he founded Ganoe Paving Co. of Greencastle, retiring in 1991. He also operated the former Ganoe Tire Sales of Greencastle.

He was a member of Antrim Assembly of God Church of Greencastle.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances M. Martin Ganoe; a daughter, Catharine M. Reeder of Mercersburg, Pa.; five sons, Melvin A. Ganoe and Harold I. Ganoe, both of Chambersburg, David E. Ganoe, Michael L. Ganoe and Ronald L. Ganoe, all of Greencastle; a sister, Mary Purell of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a brother, Albert Ganoe of Clarksburg, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Antrim Assembly of God Church, 11192 Bemisderfer Road in Greencastle. The Rev. Rodger D. Berkey will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. in Greencastle; and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to American Heart Association, Franklin County Chapter, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Elizabeth Farmer

LANCASTER, Pa. - Elizabeth Fohl Farmer, 88, a resident of Country Meadows, 1380 Elm Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pa.

Born May 16, 1911, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late David E. and Blanche Skeen Fohl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Farmer, in 1986. They were married June 29, 1940.

She was a 1929 graduate of Girl's High School in Lancaster. She then graduated from Millersville College in 1933 with a degree in library sciences. She also completed post graduate studies at Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia and Columbia University in New York City.

She was employed in 1933 as a teacher in the Lancaster School System. She was the head librarian at Lancaster High School in Lancaster when the school opened in 1936 until 1945. In later years, she worked as a librarian for Pequea Valley High School and Millersville College.

She was a member of Iris Club of Lancaster; and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a son, Dr. John E. Farmer of Waynesboro; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Witwer.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Maugen's Chapel of Hamilton Park Church, 1210 Maple Ave. in Lancaster. The Rev. David Bushnell will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens of the First Reformed Church Cemetery in Lancaster.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.

Richard J. Hellmers

QUINCY, Pa. - Retired Chief Warrant Officer Richard J. Hellmers, 68, of Cottage 703-B, Quincy Village, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy.

Born Dec. 12, 1931, in Wayne County, Pa., he was the son of the late John D. and Ethel Brigham Hellmers.

He was a 1948 graduate of Hancock Central High School in Hancock, N.Y. Following his retirement from the military, he returned to college and received his associates degree in applied science from New York University in Alfred, N.Y.

He was employed as an application engineer for HVAC Butz Refrigeration in Horsehead, N.Y. Prior to retiring in 1987, he taught in the vocational technical high school in Petersburg, Va., Rowanty Vocational Technical School and John Tyler Community College. He also was a self-employed air conditioning repairman and installer until retiring in 1993.

He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring in 1971. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was a member of American Legion Post 141 of Richard, Va.; Retired Officers Association; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Frances V. Wilber Hellmers; a sister, Dorothy Hawley of Homesdale, Pa.; and a nephew.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Quincy United Methodist Home Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 217, Quincy, PA 17247.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.

Lori L. Wies

CUMMING, Ga. - Lori L. Oller Wies, 45, of Lummus Road, and formerly of Ringgold, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, April 10, 2000, at her home as a result of complications from neck and spinal injuries she suffered in an automobile accident Nov. 20, 1998, in Georgia.

Born Feb. 10, 1955, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Peggy Reecher Oller and the late Arthur W. Oller.

She was a graduate of Smithsburg High School and the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

She was a former employee of Fairchild Industries, Rockwell International and had been employed by Lockheed-Martin in Marietta, Ga., as a senior quality engineer. She was a certified auditor.

She was a member of professional societies.

She was a former member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown.

She was co-owner of Country Air Kennels in Georgia.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Harold M. Wies; and a son, Adam W. Wies of Cumming.

Memorial services and special prayers were held at Midway United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Ga. The Revs. Charles Robinson and Martha Aenchbacher officiated. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Ringgold Church of Christ, 14420 Barkdoll Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740; or to Washington County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD. 21740.
