CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Arnold L. "Bill" Melius, 86, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 7694 Browns Mill Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 6, 1912, in Hustontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Milinda Edwards Melius.

He was employed with E.G. Hoachlander Ford, Greencastle, Pa., for 17 years. Prior to retiring in 1971, he worked at Nitterhouse Concrete Products in Chambersburg. He then worked for Greencastle Historical Society as a caretaker for Browns Mill Elementary School and Old Browns Mill Cemetery for 15 years.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace A. Wible Melius; a daughter, Evelyn M. Thomas of Chambersburg; two sons, Donald C. Melius of Greencastle and Ronald L. Melius of Marion, Pa.; two sisters, Sylvia Rouzer of Fayetteville, Pa., and Juanita Hockensmith of Harrisonville, Pa.; a brother, Norman Melius of Hagerstown; a half sister, Iva Barnett of Hustontown; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia L. Melius, in 1971; three sisters; two brothers; and two half brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Peter W. Emig will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Billy L. Cannan Sr.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Billy L. Cannan Sr., 58, of Warfordsburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at 9090 Capitol Hill Road, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born May 6, 1940, in Pennsylvania County, Va., he was the son of the late Fred and Myrtle Gibson Cannan.

He was employed by Massey Ford in the auto body shop in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Diffenderfer Cannan; two sons, Billy L. Cannan Jr. of Laurel, Md., and James A. Cannan of Catonsville, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg.

Robert H. Crumbacker

ZULLINGER, Pa. - Robert Harris Crumbacker, 66, of 11802 Shady Lane, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born April 23, 1932, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Orville K. and Lillian Cordell Crumbacker.

He was a 1950 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He worked with his father as a carpenter. He later was employed by Greencastle Coach Co. Prior to retiring on July 19, 1991, he was employed as an inspector in the engine department at Mack Trucks, Hagerstown for 30 years.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro; United Auto Workers Union Local 171; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Corinne M. Mentzer Crumbacker, whom he married Nov. 22, 1952; a son, Douglas R. Crumbacker of Waynesboro; two sisters, Margaret Freeman and Jackie Kline, both of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Crumbacker Jr.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Margaret K. Metz

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret Kell Metz, 88, a resident of Shook Home, and formerly of 131 S. Born May 4, 1910, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy G. and Mary Stine Kell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Z. Metz, in 1992.

She was a 1927 graduate of Chambersburg High School and attended Chambersburg Business College.

She retired after 25 years as secretary with the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation in Harrisburg.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, and was a member of Mustard Seed Sunday School Class.

She was a former member of Fifth Street United Methodist Church, Harrisburg.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald Metz of Enola, Pa., Phillip Metz of Kingwood, Texas, and David Metz of Kittanning, Pa.; a sister, Shelda Neubaum of Chambersburg; two brothers, J. Robert Kell of Chambersburg and George Kell of Wyomissing, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Patrick B. Jones and Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Mustard Seed Sunday School Class of King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Helen M. Johnston

Born July 2, 1916, in Cito, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Cam and Lucy "Dott" Richards Mellott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Morrow Johnston, in 1961.

She was a 1934 graduate of McConnellsburg High School.

A licensed practical nurse, she had been employed at Deckers Nursing Home and Fulton County Medical Center. She ran the Cito General Store from 1956 through 1960.

She was a member of Cito United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Buterbaugh of Waynesboro, Pa., Sally Cover of McConnellsburg, Jean Goings of York, Pa., and Glenda Morrison of McConnellsburg; a son, Gary Johnston of McConnellsburg; four sisters, Esther Greene, Dorothy McQuade, Martha Mowen and Wava Hess, all of McConnellsburg; two brothers, Harry Mellott of McConnellsburg and George "Simon" Mellott of Knobsville, Pa.; nine grandchildren; a stepgrandson; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Mellott; two brothers, Donald Mellott and Carl E. Mellott; two grandchildren; and triplet great-grandsons.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cito United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m., and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

James E. Bower

Born March 8, 1934, in Abingdon, Va., he was the son of the late Dewey L. and Clara Stevens Bower Sr.

He was a 1952 graduate of Biglerville (Pa.) High School.

He worked for Guilford Township for two years and become a supervisor in 1981. Earlier, he and his wife operated a dairy farm.

He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of General James Chambers Lodge 801 F & AM, Chambersburg; Harrisburg Consistory, Harrisburg, Pa., and Pennsylvania Supervisors Association. He was a life member of Marion Volunteer Fire Co., Marion, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Crawford Bower, whom he married March 14, 1953; two daughters, Trudy Hose of Carlisle, Pa., and Becky A. Kindall of Chambersburg; two sisters, Carole Rhea of Bristol, Va., and Shirley Thomas of Biglerville; two brothers, Dewey L. Bower Jr. and Donald W. Bower, both of Biglerville; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother, a granddaughter and two grandsons.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Warren C. Heintzelman Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 99 Miller Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
