WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elizabeth M. "Libby" Peiffer Alter, 86, of 15 Stricker Ave., Waynesboro, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.

Born Aug. 3, 1912, in Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Mary A. Hershey Stouffer.

She attended Waynesboro Business College.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert F. Peiffer, in 1965; and by her second husband, Paul G. "Ted" Alter, in 1979.

She was employed at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown; and then at Wolf's Pastry on Main Street, Waynesboro. From 1960 through 1976, she was the secretary for Dr. James Teeter in Waynesboro.

She was a member of Waynesboro Gospel Chapel, taught Sunday school in the children's department and was mission secretary for 20 years.

She was a member of South Chapter 2977 AARP; National AARP; and Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary.

She volunteered as a Red Cross nurse's aide; and delivered meals for Franklin County Home in the Waynesboro area.

She is survived by a sister, Emma S. Dunn of Maxton, N.C.; two brothers, Paul H. Stouffer of Waynesboro and John W. Stouffer of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Walter Curtis Peiffer; a stepson, W. Curtis Alter; and a sister, Miriam L. Newman.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Robert E. Deeds will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 45 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA 17268; or Union Rescue Missions, Inc., 125 N. Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Norman E. Beers

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Norman E. Beers, 92, of 441 Hamilton Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at his home.

Born Aug. 12, 1906, in Merideth, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles S. and Grace K. Cogley Beers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Kegerreis Beers, in 1959; and by his second wife, Helen L. Neeley Beers, in February, 1998.

He had been employed as a truck driver by North and South Trucking, formerly T.M. Zimmerman Trucking, retiring after more than 25 years. He then was employed by Martian Security, Schaad Detective Agency and Pinkerton Security, working as a security officer at local companies until age 82.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1426, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, and the Marine Corps League, all of Chambersburg; a life member of Franklin Fire Co., Junior Hose and Truck Co., and Friendship Fire Co., all of Chambersburg; a member of local REACT Chapter; and National Association of Chiefs of Police, Miami.

He is survived by a son, Larry K. Beers of Chambersburg; two stepdaughters, Shirley Coffey and Miriam Perry, both of Chambersburg; a sister, Larue Love of Creighton, Pa.; a brother, Harry Beers of Tarentum, Pa.; grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Betty Johnson; a sister, and a brother.

Private graveside services will be Tuesday at Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. Luis R. Rodriguez will officiate. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Valley Animal Hospital, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Carl E. Batdorff

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Carl E. Batdorff, 65, of HC 75, Box 36, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Born June 11, 1933, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the late J. Edward and Lottie Helman Batdorff.

He worked for 20 years for H.J. Heinz Co. in Chambersburg, Pa., and then 20 years for Waring Co. in McConnellsburg, retiring in June, 1998.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean War.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of McConnellsburg American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by one sister, Helen Barthalow of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, John Batdorff of Chambersburg; three nieces ; one nephew; ;three great-nieces, and one great-nephew.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Alvin Goetz will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Harrisonville, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Helen M. Knuff

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Helen Mary Bollinger Knuff, 88, a resident of Shippensburg Health Care Center, and formerly of 101 N. Prince St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Feb. 6, 1910, in Pleasant Hall, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Newton T. and Mary Brechbiel Bollinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Knuff, in 1964.

She attended Chambersburg High School; and was a graduate of the former Chambersburg Business School.

She was a former cafeteria worker at Shippensburg Area Junior High School.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orrstown, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Rose M. Edmiston of Dauphin, Pa., and Karen J. Nicholson of New Cumberland, Pa.; a son, Robert F. Knuff of Chambersburg; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. Warren C. Heintzelman Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Greene Township, Pa.

The viewing will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Arthritis Foundation, 17 S. 19th St., Camp Hill, Pa. 17011.

Leroy C. Cover

ORRSTOWN, Pa. - Leroy C. Cover, 86, of 3765 Orrstown Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at his home.

Born Feb. 28, 1912, in Southampton Township, Pa., he was the son of the late William A. and Margaret S. Bistline Cover.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Miller Cover, in 1986.

He retired in 1976 from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He was a former fire and ambulance dispatcher in Shippensburg, Pa.

He was a life member of Shippensburg Fish and Game Association; a member of Vigilant Hose Co.; Cumberland Valley Hose Co.; LSL Sportman's Club; and National Rifle Association.

He is survived by three daughters, Susan M. Sites of Orrstown, Anna Jean Moody of Youngsville, Pa., and Bonnie K. Barrick of Shippensburg; two sons, William L. Cover of Enfield, Conn., and Donald L. Cover of Chambersburg; two sisters, Edna Smith of Carlisle, Pa., and Pearl Mentzer of Lititz, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. James R. Richwine will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Greene Township, Pa.

The viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
