Hospital.

Born June 14, 1924, in Woonsocket, R.I., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Fannie Balin Stein.

He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School.

He was employed in sales with District Glass Co. and later with Miles Class Co., both in Silver Spring, Md.

He was a member of National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Pugh Stein, whom he married Oct. 10, 1966; one daughter, Kanette M. Salyers of Baltimore; one son, Gregory R. Stein of Columbia, Md.; three sisters, Mary Mendel of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Sylvia Trompeter of Tarzana, Calif., and Gloria Seitzman of San Antonio; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa. His son, Gregory R. Stein will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital National Medical Center, 111 Michigan Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20010.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Pearl V. Hissong

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pearl V. Hissong, 79, of 3376 Scotland Road, and formerly of 1830 Philadelphia Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born April 14, 1919, in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jonas W. and Elizabeth Faust Hissong.

She was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School; and a graduate of Chambersburg Business College.

She worked as a clerk-typist for Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church, and Berean Sunday School Class.

She was a former member of Scotland United Methodist Church, Scotland, Pa.

She was a member of Autumn Actions at Camp Joy-el, Greencastle, Pa.; and had volunteered with MOPS program in Chambersburg.

She is survived by two sisters, Fern Sleichter, with whom she lived, and Gladys Glein of Longview, Wash.; and a brother, the Rev. Faust Hissong of Mifflinville, Pa.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wertz.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Chambersburg Bible Church Building Fund, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or CBM Ministries Inc., 3741 Joy-el Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225.

Donna Jacobson

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Memorial services for Donna Coffman Jacobson, of 523 W. Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Richard R. Cook

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Richard R. "Dick" Cook, 69, of 12983 Pen Mar Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at his home.

Born June 19, 1929, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late Leroy L. and Cora P. Pogue Cook.

He attended Waynesboro schools.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II in Occupational Forces in Japan and the Philippines. He re-enlisted into the Air Force and served during the Korean War, serving from 1946 through 1949 and from 1950 through 1952.

He worked at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown; at Fort Ritchie with the grounds maintenance department; and was club manager at Cascade American Legion Post 239, Cascade, Md. He later owned and operated Waynesboro Tavern and Restaurant in Waynesboro. He also worked at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1991, he worked at Waynesboro Hospital in the maintenance department.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro, was past commander and a life member. He was a member of Cascade American Legion Post 238, and was past commander. He was past district commander of Western Maryland American Legion; past president of Washington County Club Association; and was a member of Voiture 651 40+8, Hagerstown; Fairfield AMVEtS Post 172, where he served on the Color Guard. He was a member of National AARP.

He was Pen Mar area weather observer for The Record Herald newspaper.

He is survived by his wife, H. Virginia Geary Cook, whom he married June 13, 1981; two daughters, Linda D. Decker of Cascade, Md., and Charlene M. Law of Pen Mar, Pa.; two sons, Richard A. Cook of Waynesboro and Ernest L. Cook of Cascade; two stepdaughters, Tina L. Kreps of Fairfield, Pa., and Tricia L. Kreps of Zullinger, Pa.; two stepsons, Terry L. Kreps of Waynesboro and Thomas L. Kreps of Pen Mar; 14 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, William L. Cook; and infant twin sisters.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Richard A. Daughtridge will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, near Rouzerville, Pa., with military graveside services by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard Post 1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Ringgold Church of Christ, 14420 Barkdoll Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Jalin R. Gunder

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jalin Renae Gunder, infant daughter of Jamie L. Gunder of 117 N. Church St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Randall J. Gunder of Waynesboro and Rebecca K. Gunder of Millerstown, Pa.; maternal great-grandmother, Margaret J. Gunder of Waynesboro; maternal great-grandfather, Lester Naugle of Waynesboro; and one uncle, Brian Gunder of Waynesboro.

She was preceded in death by a maternal great-grandfather, Charles I. Gunder Jr.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., in Waynesboro. The Rev. Jaye M. Bartle will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes prior to service at the funeral home.

Emily M. Humpleby

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Emily M. "Mae" Davies Humpleby, 92, a resident of Menno Haven, and formerly of the Inn at Luther Ridge and 598 S. Born Oct. 16, 1906, in Aberdare, Wales, she was the daughter of the late David T. and Mary E. Bolton Davies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Humpleby, in 1978. They were married Sept. 28, 1929.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ, Marion, Pa.

She is survived by a son, Paul J. Humpleby of Chambersburg; two brothers, Wilson Davies of New Port Richey, Fla., and David Davies of Elyria, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, and three brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Pastor John A. Toms will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Heidelberg United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 381, Marion, PA 17235.

Robert C. Plaine

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Retired Lt. Col. Robert C. Plaine, 86, of 12065 East Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at his home.

Born June 6, 1912, in Norristown, Pa., he was the son of the late John R. and Sadie E. Valentine Plaine.

He attended Norristown High School.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1929 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942. He retired after 22 years, serving during World War II and the Korean War.

He was commandant of Frederick Military Academy in Portsmith, Va., for 27 years; and worked for 25 years at Camp Comet near Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

He had been a member of Norristown Church of Christ.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro; Retired Officers Association of Washington, D.C.; Disabled American Veterans Association; National AARP; National Rifle Association; and was a life member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.

He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Adaline A. Harbaugh Plaine; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Hoffman, Romaine Shaffer and Valeria Brown; and three brothers, Lester M. Plaine, John R. Plaine and Albert H. Plaine.

Private services will be held Saturday at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. David L. Hefner and the Rev. Daniel H. Kelchner will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville, Pa.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
