Leonard Coleman
EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Leonard Coleman Jr., 78 of East Springfield, Pa., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at his home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1924 in Roulette, Pa., the son of Leonard and Ruth (Small) Coleman Sr.
Mr. Coleman retired in 1984 after 10 years of service as a heavy equipment operator and in the fields from the Sherman Drilling Co., in Mineral City. Previously, he worked for the Flanigan Oil Co., in Bradford, Pa., for 30 years starting in 1944.
Mr. Coleman enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to grow rose bushes, and was especially fond of stray animals.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elsie M. (Sugden) Coleman, whom he marriage on Jan. 12, 1942; four daughters, Judy A. Pierce of East Springfield, Pa., Brenda C. Szablowski of Waynesburg, Virginia J. Coleman of Belmont, N.Y., and Joyce E. Glosser of Ashtabula, Ohio; four sisters, Virginia Kostyun of DeBary, Fla., Juanita Fisher of Conneaut, Genevie Cowher of Portersville, Pa., and Carolyn Mundi of Conneaut, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa., with the Revs. Raymond Lamb and Carson Robson of the Conneaut Church of God officiating.
Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

LeRoy Ball
FAIRVIEW, Pa. - LeRoy "Lee" Ball, 62, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Spring Township, Pa., the son of Levi and Hannah Lee Ball. He was a 1957 Albion Area High School graduate.
Mr. Ball served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He worked as a forklift service representative for Morrison Co., Erie Industry Trucks and Quimby Material Handling, now Hyster-Mid East.
Mr. Ball was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed bowling and playing cards, and was a proud grandfather.
He was a member of the Fairview American Legion Post 742; the Northwestern Sportsmen's Club, where he served as treasurer and trustee; and the Siebenbuerger Club.
He was a Pennsylvania hunter safety instructor at Northwest Sportsmen's Club and the Walnut Creek Gun Club. He volunteered with the Pennsylvania Game Commission Youth Field Days; was a Boy Scout master for Troop 68 of Fairview for 12 years and also was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a Little League coach and umpire for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Olesnanik); three sons, Daniel L. of Erie, Pa., Donald J. of Fairview, Pa., and David P. of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Caroline P. Palmer of Fairview, Pa.; three grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, and Rachel; two brothers, Eli P. of Albion, Pa., and Milton H. of Springboro, Pa.; and four sisters, Ethel Blood of Beaver County, Pa., Dorothy Thayer of Cranesville, Pa., Mary McIntire of West Springfield, Pa., and Hannah Marg Acevedo of McAllen, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, William F., Carl E., l. Richard, and Kenneth L.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. E., Girard, Pa. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Virginia R. Dillon
JAMESTOWN, Pa. - Virginia R. Dillon, 75, of Jamestown, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born June 15, 1926, in Pymatuning Township, Pa., the daughter of H. Kenneth and Mildred (Fell) Brugler. Formerly of Wayne Township, she had lived in Jamestown the past two years.
She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, and a 1946 graduate of Youngstown State University.
She marriage E. Kirtland "Kirt" Dillon on Nov. 22, 1947. She and her husband operated Kirtland Farms in Stoneboro, Pa., for many years.
She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Kinsman, and was a former Sunday school teacher at the Kinsman United Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, craft shows, attending World War II reunions with her husband and was devoted to family and farm.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Karen Cooley of Williamsfield, and Janet Robinson of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sons, Mark Dillon of Champion, and Steven Dillon of Williamsfield; a sister, Barbara Young of Warren; a brother, Richard Brugler of Warren; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. Robert Gears, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Hayes Cemetery in Wayne Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert E. Griffen
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Robert E. Griffen, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Hamot Medical Center.
Mr. Griffen was born Oct. 23, 1928, in North East, Pa., the son of Clarence and Gladys (Walker) Griffen.
He retired from Conneaut Die Casting in 1990 where he had worked as a maintenance mechanic for 30 years. He most recently worked for Judson Baptist Camp in North Springfield, Pa. He was a member of the West Springfield Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. He was active in scouting and was Scoutmaster of Troop 86. He received the Wood badge. He enjoyed building radio controlled model airplanes and woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Griffen is survived by his wife, Betty (Everett), whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 12; two sons: Barry of Manheim, Pa., and Howard of West Springfield; four daughters: Pam Luker and Cheryl Davis, both of Albion, Pa., Jill O'Brien of West Springfield, Pa., and Sue Brown of Girard, Pa.; two brothers: Raymond of North East, Pa., and Charles of Mason; a step-brother, Robert Meek of Baton Rouge, La.; a step-sister, Lois Meek of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1987; his mother in 1946; and his stepmother Grace (Meek) Griffen in 1990.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at West Springfield Baptist Church, 13695 W. Ridge Road, West Springfield. The Rev. Tim Ferguson and the Rev. Ken Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield, Pa.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa.

Marie Shea
VILLA MARIA, Pa. - Sister Marie Shea, formerly Sister Mary Benedict, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Villa Maria Community Center.
She was born March 2, 1909, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Hugh and Matilda (Ebner) Shea. She graduated from the Mt. Marie Academy, Canton, in 1927.
She entered St. John the Baptist Parish, Canton, on Feb. 10, 1935. She professed her first vows on July 17, 1937, and made her final profession July 17, 1940. She was a nun for 64 years.
She worked as a teacher and social worker. She earned her bachelors degree from St. Elizabeth College, Covenant Station, N.J., in 1931, and a master's degree in 1947 from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.
Sister Marie Shea served in the ministry of education for 50 years, including 41 years as a classroom teacher. Her assignments in the Cleveland Diocese included Lourdes Academy, Cleveland, and at Magnificat High School, Rocky River. In the Youngstown Diocese she taught at Mt. Marie Academy, St. John High School, and central Catholic High School, Canton, and at St. Edward High School, Youngstown. Sister Marie was also a social service worker, census taker and teacher in the CCD program at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Ashtabula.
Survivors include her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Hughie W. Shea.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria, Pa. A wake service will be held at 7:15 p.m. today.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Humility of Mary, Villa Maria, Pa. 16155.

Evelyn C. Wilfong
EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - Evelyn Christine Wilfong, 54, formerly of Dunsmore Avenue, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at the home of her daughter. She had been residing in Sebring, Fla., for the past 212 years.
She was born June 3, 1947, in Fremont, Ohio the daughter of Robert and Geraldine (Oxter) Welsh and had been an Ashtabula, Ohio area resident most of her life.
She previously worked as a cake decorator for the Ashtabula Dairy Queen.
Mrs. Wilfong was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and loved traveling to Florida and flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Junior, whom she marriage July 16, 1971; two daughters, Patty Wilfong of Sebring, Fla., and Cindy Ring of East Springfield, Pa.; three stepchildren, Jerry Wilfong of Conneaut, OH, and Randy Wilfong and Susan Konopa of Ashtabula, OH; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald Welsh of Ashtabula and Kirk Louth of Kingsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Service is 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Edward Huntley of East Springfield Federated Church officiating.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sister Dorothea Hurray
VILLA MARIA, Pa. - Sister Dorothea Hurray, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Villa Maria Community Center.
Born Feb. 6, 1912, in Salem, Ohio, she was the daughter of Joseph and Matilda (Skrak) Hurray.
She entered the ministry on Aug. 19, 1933, and took her final profession on Aug. 19, 1936.
She graduated in 1949, from St. John College, Cleveland, Ohio.
She was a teacher, principal and school librarian during her 69 years of service. From 1951 through 1955, she taught at St. Mary in Conneaut and, from 1967 throughout 1970, she taught at Mother of Sorrows in Ashtabula.
Survivors include a brother, Philip Hurray of Akron; and two sisters, Helen Hurray and Matilda Tolson of Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joseph Hurray; and three sisters, Mary Hurray, Mae Farrell and Virginia Hurray.
A wake service is 7:15 p.m. Sunday at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria.
Mass of Christian Burial is 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel.
Memorials may be made to Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Villa Maria, Pa. 16155.
