Herbert I. 'Herb' Mowery
Nescopeck Township volunteer fire chief
Herbert I. "Herb" Mowery, 67, of 85 Hobbie Road, Nescopeck, died 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 in the emergency room at Berwick Hospital Center, after being stricken ill at his home.
Born in Nescopeck, Feb. 9, 1936, he was a son of the late Ivan and Christine (Bower) Mowery.
Mr. Mowery had been employed for 40 years at Marelli Construction, Hazleton, until his retirement.
He was an active member of the Nescopeck Township Volunteer Company No. 1, where he was serving as chief.
Mr. Mowery was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Bower.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Marlene Kishbaugh; four children: Alan Mowery, Briggsville; Mrs. Albert (Brenda) Klinger, Catawissa; Terry Mowery, Briggsville; and Mrs. Joseph (Lori) George, Berwick; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: Clyde Mowery, Berwick; William Mowery, Huntington Mills; two sisters: Mrs. Arthur (Linda) White, Selinsgrove; Mrs. Robert (Carrie) Hower, Berwick.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, with Autumn Kishbaugh, his niece and lay minister officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Mitchell A. Kowalsky
Army veteran was weaver and loom repairman
Mitchell A. Kowalsky, 75, of Bloomsburg R.R. 3, died Sunday morning, Aug. 3, 2003, at his home after a four-month illness.
Born in Beaver Township, Dec. 11, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Pless) Kowalsky.
An Army veteran, Mr. Kowalsky spent most of his life in Mountain Grove and Beaver Township.
He was a retired weaver and loom repairman for Bloom Mills, where he was employed for 45 years.
Mr. Kowalsky was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Nuremberg.
He was an avid outdoorsman and life member of the Black Creek Sportsman's Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Catherine Slovik, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage July 7; a son, Joseph Kowalsky, Bloomsburg R.R. 3; daughters: Mrs. Edward (Rita) Kennedy, Ellicott City, Md.; and Mrs. Stephen (Michele) Hutton, Urbanna, Va.; five grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Kowalsky, Bloomsburg; and sisters: Cecelia Chyko, Bloomsburg R.R 3; and Mary Chyko and Pauline Magill, both of Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Homes Inc. (West), Conyngham-Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen. The Rev. Patrick McDowell will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Nuremberg, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Leon Houser
