JOHN R. 'JACK' HASBROUCK, 55
John R. "Jack" Hasbrouck, 55, of Sumterville, Fla., died there. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, following an extended illness.
He was born in Titusville and had been a resident of Sumter County since 1998. Formerly, he was a resident of Missouri.
He had done maintenance work for the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Sumterville; two daughters, Nancy Marie Nelson of Cherokee, Iowa, and Brenda Ann Capel of Council Bluff, Iowa; two brothers, Larry Hasbrouck of Tidioute and Paul Hasbrouck of Titusville; six grandchildren, Brian, Benjamin, Annalie, Lisa, Laura and Leann, all of Iowa; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy Hasbrouck; a sister, Norma Jean; two brothers, Leslie and Donald Hasbrouck; and a nephew, Joshua James Hasbrouck.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, Fla., where the funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday with Joseph Schroeder officiating. Interment with full military honors rendered by the Marine Corps League will take place in Florida National Cemetery.

JUNE W. NELSON, 87
Mrs. June W. Nelson, 87, of Pleasantville, RD 1, died at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2001, at her residence.
She was born June 13, 1914, in Meadville to Harold and Mary Luskuski Whitman. She marriage Robert H. Nelson in February 1950 at Tidioute. He died Oct. 5, 1985.
She was last employed by Endeavor Lumber Co. as a cutter prior to her retirement.
She attended Titusville Area Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, Richard W. Nelson and his girlfriend, Jill Miller, of Pleasantville, RD 1; three grandchildren, Jacob Nelson of Titusville, Emily Nelson of Pleasantville and Matthew Nelson of Erie; four grandchildren; a half-brother, Merle Whitman of Titusville; three half-sisters, Bernice Vincent and Delores Albaugh of Titusville and Lorraine Sparks of Titusville.
She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Rosa Wierger Whitman; and a half-brother, Harold Whitman.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Monday from 12 a.m. to noon, at which time the funeral service will be conducted by Rev. James Nelson, pastor of Pleasantville Community Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Neilltown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 322 1/2 W. Main St.

DORIS E. OPELT, 79
Doris E. Opelt, 79, died at 10:37 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in Beverly Healthcare of Oil City, where she had been a resident since May 1997. She formerly lived on East Bloss Street and in Central Towers.
She was born in Sandy Lake, a daughter of Claude R. and Myrta Reed Shuffstall.
She graduated from Cochranton High School.
She marriage Leonard L. Opelt Sr. on Oct. 24, 1959, in Grand Valley. He died May 23, 1991.
She formerly worked for Titusville Police Department as a school crossing guard for 21 years at South Side and Main Street schools.
She was a former member of Titusville EUB Church.
She enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Opelt of Pleasantville and Mrs. Michael (Linda) Classic of Escondido, Calif.; a son, Michael McFarland of Escondido, Calif.; a son and step-daughter, Gordon and Kathryn McFarland of Eatonton, Ga.; three step-sons, Leonard L. Opelt Jr. and Patrick F. Opelt of Titusville and Richard S. Opelt of Cochranton; Seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, two step-great-grandchildren and a niece.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Shuffstall and Aimee Ferrier; and four brothers, Kenneth, Lewis, Neal and Michael Shuffstall.
Friends will be received Monday at Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home Inc. from noon to 2 p.m., at which time the funeral service will be conducted by Rev. William c. Hopkins, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

WILLIAM 'BILL' ALDERMAN, 75
William "Bill" Alderman, 75, of Bartow, Fla., died July 31, 2002, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., following complications from surgery.
He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Erie. He moved to Florida from Pennsylvania 10 years ago.
Mr. Alderman had been employed as a general contractor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the Beymer United Methodist Church in Winter Haven, Fla.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Cammillia "Millie" Alderman of Bartow, Fla.; two sons, Shane Alderman of Bartow, Fla., and Sean Alderman of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Jane E. Jones of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother, Jon C. Alderman of Titusville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Tuscan Lodge #6, Box 38, Bartow, Fla., 33831; or Tampa Shriners Hospital, 12502 Pine Dr., Tampa, Fla., 33612-9499.

REV. C. ELLSWORTH DEPEW, 85
The Rev. C. Ellsworth Depew, 85, of 425 North Martin St., Titusville, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2002 at his residence following a brief illness.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be announced with the complete obituary will appear in Monday's newspaper.

SARABELLE 'SALLY' MARKLEY BERGERON, 62
OAKDALE, La. - Sarabelle "Sally" Markley Bergeron, 62, died Oct. 10, 2002, in Oakdale, La.
She was born July 4, 1940, in Tryonville, the daughter of George and Lillian Markley of Tryonville.
Mrs. Bergeron was a graduate of Townville High School and worked in the textile industry for many years in Louisiana.
She was a member of First Emanuel Baptist Church in Oakdale, La.
She had received a heart transplant in 1994 and was a member of the Organ Donors Association.
Mrs. Bergeron is survived by her son, Mark Markley of Oakdale, La.; a granddaughter, Christina Markley of Oakdale, La.; three brothers, Kenneth Markley of Detroit, Mich., Richard Markley of Punta Gorda, Fla., and William Markley of Lake Panasofkee, Fla.; two sisters, Beverly Markley Winninger of Lacona, N.Y., and Gerry Markley Hecker of Warrensville, Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, George Eugene Markley of Seagraves, Texas; and a sister, Evelyn Markley Eggleston of Titusville.

THELMA E. MILLER, 85
Thelma E. Miller, 85, died at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare - Titusville, where she had been a resident since Jan. 25, 2001.
She formerly lived on Water Street in Hydetown with her husband. They were known for their beautiful lighted Christmas display.
She was born March 5, 1917, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Edward W. and Hilda Glauber Champion.
She graduated from Wilkensburg High School in 1933.
She marriage Charles A. Miller Sr. on Oct. 27, 1948, in Pitcairn. Mr. Miller died Dec. 4, 1979.
Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Walburga Church and St. Titus Church Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former member of St. Titus Church, Titusville Business and Professional Women's Club, Titusville Area Hospital Auxiliary, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Auxiliary and a member of the board of directors of the American Red Cross.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Kenneth Sterling of Hydetown; her daughter-in-law, Tracy Miller of Titusville; five grandchildren, Kenneth Sterling and his wife, Celine, of Titusville, Rita Sterling Oliver and her husband, Richard, of Titusville, Heather Sterling Hilburn and her husband, John, of Hydetown, James Miller and Jennifer Miller, both of Titusville; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Champion of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward B. Miller; and a sister, Madalyn Tingen.
No public calling hours will be observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Walburga Church by Fr. V. David Foradori, pastor, Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice.

JOHN K. FUNK, 91
DALLAS, Texas - Oilman, aviator, and philanthropist John K. Funk, 91, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 12, 2003, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas, following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 7, 1911, in Titusville, Mr. Funk was the only surviving great grandson of the legendary Capt. A. B. Funk who, less than two years after Col. Edwin Drake's drilling of the world's first oil well in Titusville in August of 1859, drilled the famous "Fountain Well," the first free-flowing and largest producing well drilled to that time. Mr. Funk was the fourth generation of his family to be involved with the oil industry; his father, Wilbur Funk, managing the interests of Carter Oil in Tulsa, Okla., until his retirement in 1932.
Mr. Funk attended the public schools of Titusville and Tulsa, Okla., before completing a four-year program of studies at The New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., in 1933.
A pioneer in the aviation industry, Mr. Funk worked with founder Claude Ryan in the earliest days of Ryan Aircraft and was familiar with virtually all the aviator heroes of that era. With the beginning of World War II, Mr. Funk entered the government's air service at San Diego, flying governmental missions to the Island of Oahu, Canton Island, Nindi, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Brisbane, Australia.
Since 1949, Mr. Funk had been a resident of Dallas, where he continued and expanded his family's oil interests.
A life-long member of The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville and a devoted alumnus of The New Mexico Military Institute, Mr. Funk was also active in the work of the Republican Party and generously philanthropic with churches, schools, museums, hospitals, non-profit retirement homes and many other charitable causes in and around Dallas and throughout the country.
Known for his ready smile, his easy-going sense of humor, his extraordinary memory for names, dates and places, and his first-hand recollections of the early days of the aviation industry, Mr. Funk will be sadly missed by colleagues, friends, and family members alike.
Mr. Funk was marriage to the former Elsia Pat Estep, now deceased.
He is survived by two daughters, Jonnie Kay Myers and Henrietta B. Funk, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home of Dallas, Texas. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Monday with the Rev. Dr. Barry E. Cressman, Pastor of The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, officiating.
The interment will take place in the Richview Cemetery, Dallas.

BRIAN A. PATTERSON, 36
FRANKLIN - Trooper Brian A. Patterson, 36, of 12452 Gresham Road died at 1:58 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at UPMC Northwest, Franklin.
He was born May 17, 1966, in Titusville to Allan Patterson and Eva Wallace Leithead.
He marriage Julie Brickner on June 1. 1991, at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Barry E. Cressman.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School with the class of 1984. He entered the police academy on Sept. 27, 1993, was stationed at Coudersport and currently in Franklin with the Pennsylvania State Police.
Mr. Patterson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Titusville. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and active with his children in 4-H. He enjoyed traveling, but most of all being at home with his wife and two children.
Survivors include his wife of Titusville; two children, Desirae and Tyler Patterson, both at home; his father and step-mother, Allan and Katy Patterson of Titusville; his mother and step-father, Eva and Joseph Leithead of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Kelly Johnson and her husband, Kevin, of Titusville; his grandparents, Donald and Madolyn Patterson of Titusville; Mrs. Elizabeth Wallace of Titusville; and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, George Wallace.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service from the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with honors conducted by officers of the Pennsylvania State Police.

CLIFFORD PATTERSON, 95
DENVER - G. Clifford Patterson, 95, of 1950 S. Dayton St., Denver, Colo., died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in the Ilifs of Care Nursing Home in Denver, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
Born July 24, 1907, at Titusville, he was a son of the late Irvin and Ethel Shaffer Patterson.
He marriage the former Jennie Silvers, who survives.
He graduated from Titusville High School.
Employed by The Titusville Herald for 18 years until 1950, he also worked as a proof reader for The Denver Post and The Rocky Mountain News.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Denver.
A member and 32nd-degree Mason of Liberty Lodge 134, Free and Accepted Masons in Denver, he was active in various masonic and men's clubs, including the Masonic Consistory in Denver.
Survivors include: a son, Thomas Patterson of Barrington, Ill; three daughters, Helen Kreiger of Colorado Springs, Colo., Patricia "Pat" Greeb of Denver and Nancy Verdick of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Charles Patterson of Chapmanville and Donald Patterson of Titusville; a sister-in-law, Cleda Holliday of Grantsville, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Glenn Patterson; and two sisters, Helen Walls and Ruth Patterson, died previously.
Friends may call today at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home from noon to 1 p.m., when a funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Edward Patterson, Mr. Patterson's nephew.
Interment will be Fairview Cemetery, Cherrytree Township, Venango County.
