William F. Patterson
CONNEAUT, Ohio - William F. Patterson, 84, Fenton Avenue, Conneaut, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at his home.
He was born in Conneaut on Nov. 11, 1913, son of the late Harry G. and Mabel Poland Patterson.
A resident of Conneaut his entire life, Mr. Patterson was employed as a conductor for the former Nickel Plate and Norfolk and Western railroads. He retired after more than 30 years of employment for the railroads.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 472, and the BPO Elks No. 256.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn McGill, and a brother, Edmond Patterson.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Arvide; two daughters, Mary Jane Jarvi of Conneaut and Charleen Sabo of Geneva; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. A service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. A. Edward Gretchko, pastor of St. Francis Cabrini Church, officiating.
Burial will be at East Conneaut Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Ashtabula County, P.O. Box 6, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Pearl Neely
FRANKLIN - Pearl "Peg" Neely, 64, 3 Pennsylvania Ave., Franklin, died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center, Franklin campus.
She was born in Franklin on Feb. 5, 1933, daughter of the late James Oyster and Myrle Neely.
She had been a waitress at the Franklin Women's Club and a housekeeper for various homes. She had been an active member of Franklin Faith Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Bobella; and a special friend, Butch Matthews.
Survivors include a son, Robert Neely of Franklin; and a nephew she raised, Richard L. Neely of Atlanta, Ga.
Friends may call at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut, Franklin, on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Delbert Howard Sr. of Franklin Faith Holiness Church officiating.
Burial will be at Franklin Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Franklin Faith Holiness Church.

Maxine Meuser Szewczyk
Maxine Tanner Meuser Szewczyk, 68, of Prospect Avenue, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Polk, Pa., on Feb. 17, 1929, a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Seifert Meuser.
Mrs. Szewczyk had trained and worked at Erie Infants Home and had also been a governess in several Erie homes.
She was a member of the Erie Center for the Blind.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Meuser, on March 24, 1992.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Szewczyk; a daughter, Kathy Matteson of Erie; a brother, Charles Meuser of Crystal River, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly, Kenny and Kirk Matteson, all of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 E. 12th, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday at noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Joseph J. Rawa
Joseph J. Rawa, 90, of 4003 Parade Blvd., died Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 1998, at St. Mary's Home after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 26, 1907, in Erie, son of the late Alexander and Frances Suleski Rawa.
Mr. Rawa, who lived in Erie all his life, worked for General Electric Co., where he was an inspector, for 26 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. During World War II he worked at the gun factory at Washington Naval Yard in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Rawa was a parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church, where he was an usher and a member of the Usher Society.
He was a member of the Polish Foresters, a life member of the Polish Falcons and a former member of the East Erie Turners. He enjoyed knitting and golf and shot two holes-in-one during his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie E. Olszewski Rawa, on May 26, 1995; two brothers, John and Stanley Rawa; a sister, Alice Walczak; two granddaughters, Lynn Mackey and Cindy Sage; and a grandson, Edward Szuchmanski.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Joan) Szuchmanski of Erie and Mrs. Richard (Eileen) Mackey of Westwood, Mass.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Gertrude A. Barber Center, 136 East Ave., Erie, Pa. 16507; the Second Harvest Food Bank, 1703 Ash St., Erie, Pa. 16503; or the St. Luke's Building Endowment Fund, 421 E. 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16504.

Joseph A. Little
Joseph A. Little, 63, 45 Townhall Road East, Waterford, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Erie on March 9, 1934, son of the late William and Catherine George Little.
A resident of the Erie area all his life, Mr. Little was employed as a garage foreman for Millcreek Township for 36 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked for Baldwin Brothers for several years.
He was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church and the Siebenbuerger Club, and was a Times Old Newsie.
He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, golfing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert F. and Raymond C. Little.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Ganzer Little; a daughter, Cheryl Gruver and her husband, Fred, of Waterford; four sons, Joseph J. Little and his wife, Grace, Jerry Little and his wife, Bonnie, Richard Little and his wife, Debbie, and Michael Little and his wife, Kecia, all of Erie; a brother, William E. Little and his wife, Phyllis, of Erie; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Mt. of Olives Cemetery.

Henry Scott Moffatt Sr.
Henry Scott Moffatt Sr., 76, 1850A Buffalo Rd., No. 2, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was born in Chicasaw, Miss., on April 25, 1921, son of the late DeWitt and Scottie Tittle Moffatt Sr.
An Erie resident for 52 years, Mr. Moffatt had been an orderly at Hamot Medical Center until his retirement. He had also worked for General Electric Co. and Bethlehem Steel in Lackawana, N.Y. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and had worked at CC Camp. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Moffatt, and a granddaughter, Alisha Vance.
Mr. Moffatt is survived by his wife, Judy Jennings Moffatt; three sons, Henry Scott Moffatt Jr. and Daryl D. Moffatt, both of Erie, and Clifton Daniel Moffatt of California, Md., and his wife, Marisol; two daughters, Henrietta Wilson of Beloit, Wis., and her husband, Arthur, and Joanne Farmer of Cleveland; a stepdaughter, Lydia Marie Jennings of Erie; a brother, DeWitt Moffatt Jr. of Erie; five sisters, Emma Belle Cooper, Maudie Graham, Louise Buchanan, Eloise Hudson and her husband, Charles, and Mildred Watson, all of Erie; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Law Funeral Home, 1861 Buffalo Road, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, 327 E. 23rd St., conducted by the Rev. Amos Goodwine Sr.
Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Hazel Spalti Hicks
SAINT MARYS - Hazel E. Spalti Hicks, 88, a resident of Elk Haven, formerly of Erie, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Elk County Regional Medical Center.
She was born on March 4, 1909, in West Falls, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Ricketson Spalti.
Mrs. Hicks, who attended West Falls schools, was a retired employee of the Kahkwa Club in Fairview.
She was preceded in death in 1965 by her husband, Raymond H. Hicks, whom she marriage Aug. 9, 1930.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Harlan R. Hicks, in January 1952, and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rudy (Naomi) Klancer of Indiana, Pa., Mrs. Jack (Lois) Peterson of Erie and Mrs. John (Janet) Miller of Kersey, Elk County; a son, Dennis C. Hicks of Lake City; a sister, Pearl of New York State; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Friends may call at Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center St., Saint Marys, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. William Beatty.
Burial will be at Houson Hill Cemetery in Sterling Run, Cameron County.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Frank E. Rahn
Frank E. Rahn, 88, formerly of 3106 Atlantic Ave., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Sarah Reed Retirement Center.
He was born in Utica, N.Y., Jan. 20, 1910, son of the late Fred and Lena Heim Rahn.
Mr. Rahn was a senior clerk for 40 years at the Linde Division of Union Carbide. He worked at the company's plant in Erie until it moved to Ashtabula in 1962. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of Luther Memorial Church and the Oriental Lodge No. 224, F&AM, of Utica.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegarde Heidman Rahn, in 1990; a son, Donald, who was killed in Vietnam; and two brothers, Oscar and Carl Rahn.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Harvey and her husband, Kenneth, of Erie; a son, David Rahn; a sister, Delight Nier of Mishawaka, Ind.; a brother, Richard Rahn of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., from 7 to 9 p.m. today. A service will be held there at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. David Mumford, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the organization of one's choice.
