Anne Marder
Anne Marder, 88, Menno-Haven, died Monday, Dec. 4 in Menno-Haven.
Born Feb. 22, 1912 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late David and Esther Kozda. Her husband, Gerson Marder, died in 1983.
Mrs. Marder was of the Jewish faith. She had been employed for over 20 years at Winkleman’s Women’s Clothing Store, Detroit, Mich.
Surviving are one daughter, Dale Wolfson of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; one niece; and several great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 4 with Rabbi Danelle LeShaw officiating. Interment was in Sons of Israel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Menno-Haven, 2075 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg; or Congregation Sons of Israel, 209 E. King Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Donald Lee Umbrell
Donald Lee Umbrell, 42, of 1749 East 21st Street, Douglas, Ariz. and formerly of Doylesburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 28 in Douglas, Ariz.
Born April 22, 1958 in Huntingdon, he was the son of Lyle S. and Sarah Catherine Junkin Umbrell, both of Doylesburg. He was never marriage.
Mr. Umbrell was a 1976 graduate of the Fannett-Metal High School, Willow Hill and a graduate of Penn State University in State College. He was an instructor at Vision Quest Western Division in Elfrida, Ariz. He had also taught with the Vision Quest Wagon Train and had formerly worked for Carl Rosenberry and Sons Lumber Co. in Fort Loudon.
Mr. Umbrell loved the outdoors and participated in the 1995 Great American Cattle Drive from Texas to Montana.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a life companion, Libby Moreno of Douglas, Ariz.; two of his companion’s sons, Gabriel Moreno and Luis Moreno, both of Douglas, Ariz.; one foster son, Jesus “Chuy” Arvayo of Douglas, Ariz.; two brothers, Matthew Umbrell and Edward Umbrell, both of Doylesburg; and one sister, Sarah Jane Umbrell of Philadelphia. Also surviving is a nephew, Lt. Paul S. Umbrell serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. whom was raised with the family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John, in 1986.
Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 4 at John L. Agett Funeral Home in Dry Run with the Rev. Alice M. Meloy officiating. Interment was in Upper Path Valley Cemetery in Fannett Township.

Donald R. Schuchman
Donald R. Schuchman, 81, of 4660 Rotz Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 29 in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1919 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillie Rine Schuchman. His wife, Isabelle Kyle Schuchman, died on Sept. 26, 1991.
Mr. Schuchman was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He was a carpenter at Letterkenny Army Depot for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Schuchman was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a former charter member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 842, Chambersburg.
He was a member of the Open Door Church, Chambersburg.
Mr. Schuchman is survived by one daughter, Donna Lou Benedict of Chambersburg; one son, Steve R. Schuchman of Chambersburg; and one brother, Richard Schuchman of Chambersburg. He is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 4 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Dean Morrison officiating. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery.
Military graveside services were conducted by members of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 V.F.W. Honor Guard.

Dorothy Alma Wheeling
Dorothy Alma Wheeling, 88, 260C Menno Village and formerly of Ballwin, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 1 in her home.
Born Nov. 1, 1912 in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Alma Krull Gutmann. She marriage Lee Wheeling on March 29, 1939 in St. Louis. In 1992 they moved from St. Louis to Chambersburg. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year.
Mrs. Wheeling graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Whittier College in Calif. and Harris Teachers’ College in St. Louis where she received her Missouri teaching certification and taught sixth grade at Mesnier Elementary School in Affton, Mo. for 16 years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church but while in Chambersburg attended services and Bible Study at Menno-Haven Chapel. She was a member of the Eastern Star, served as organist at Bible Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, was a volunteer pianist at Delmar Gardens Retirement Home in St. Louis, was a volunteer pianist at Walden Unit Menno-Haven and played in the lobby before dinner for the Menno-Haven residents.
During her retirement she was a member of the Rockwoods, Mo. and Franklin Co. Gem and Mineral Club. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed cooking traditional recipes that her family brought from Germany. She crocheted afghans for her family and enjoyed exchanging e-mail messages with her grandchildren. She was so appreciative of her friends at Menno-Haven and the physician’s care of Dr. James Barton.
In addition to her widower, she is survived by one son, Paul of Philadelphia; one daughter, Jean Druckenbrod James of Chambersburg; and one brother, Paul Gutmann of St. Louis. Also surviving are five grandchildren and a nephew.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in the Menno-Haven Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Isner officiating. Interment was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
Memorial may be made to Menno-Haven, 2075 Scotland Avenue, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Arrangements were made by the Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home.

Edwin S. Cullinan Jr.
Edwin S. Cullinan Jr., 60, 3485 Ridge Road, Ft. Loudon and previously of Southwest Philadelphia, died Friday, Dec. 1 in Falling Spring Nursing Home where he had been a patient for about six months.
Born Oct. 10, 1940 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edwin S. and Mary Dudo Cullinan. He marriage his wife Anne M. Lilly Cullinan in 1968.
Mr. Cullinan graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. Prior to his illness he had been a printer for Philadelphia Newspapers and Weyerhauser Inc. and also for Triangle Publications in Philadelphia.
Mr. Cullinan was a lifetime member of the Mercersburg Sportsman and he was a member of the Ft. Loudon American Legion.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Marie Cullinan of Ft. Loudon; three sons, Edwin H. of Feasterville, James J. of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Robert E. of Ft. Loudon; and a sister, Barbara S. Quin of Aston. Also surviving are two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Mercersburg with the Rev. Campion officiating. Interment was in Stenger Hill Cemetery in Ft. Loudon.
Arrangements were made by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in St. Thomas.

Jeffrey L. Peck
Jeffrey L. Peck, 46, 115 Fifth Avenue, Chambersburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 2 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 8, 1954 in Wausau, Wisc., he is the son of Lawrence “Larry” and Kathleen Machyniak Peck of Fayetteville.
Mr. Peck attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. He was a member of Burt J. Asper Post No. 46 American Legion and the St. Thomas Sportsman Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.
He was employed by Casher’s Inc. for 25 years and was presently their manager.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Shockey Peck; one daughter, Becky, at home; and one son, Ryan, at home; one sister, Ellen Bowman, Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 from the Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 Commerce Street, with Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively officiating. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg; or the American Red Cross, Professional Arts Building, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth B. Gaston
Kenneth B. Gaston, 64, of 1986 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, died Friday, Dec. 1 in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 24, 1936 in Orrstown, he was the son of the late William B. and Rebecca Jane Hammond Gaston.
Mr. Gaston was a forklift operator at Letterkenny Army Depot for 24 years until his retirement in 1995. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post No. 46, the Chambersburg Club, a the AMVETS Post No. 224 and Landis McCleaf Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
He is survived by one daughter, Carla B. Gaston of Georgetown, S.C.; one son, Bryan I. Gaston of Spring Run; two sisters, Annabelle Myers of Chambersburg and Gail Peterson of Upper Horse Valley; and one brother, Norman A. Gaston of Chambersburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment was in Upper Path Valley Cemetery in Fannett Township.

Robert McNair “Bob” Poe
Robert McNair “Bob” Poe, 83, of 3265 Woodstock Road, Chambersburg, died Saturday, Dec. 2 in Waynesboro Hospital.
Born May 5, 1917 in Greene Township, he was the son of the late Roy Charles and Ruth L. Brechbiel Poe. He was marriage to Edna Stamy Poe on Oct. 26, 1938.
Mr. and Mrs. Poe owned and operated a dairy farm at their Woodstock Road address. They had grown tomatoes and squash for the former H.J. Heinz Co., and Musselman’s. They operated Poe’s Home Grown, a roadside produce retail stand, for many years.
He was a member of the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg, where he had served as Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher and as the Young People’s chairman. Mr. Poe sang with the Gospel Tide Hour for 25 years. He served on the Lodging Committee at Roxbury Holiness Camp for over 25 years.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Poe was a lifelong hunter. He enjoyed music, having played the guitar and harmonica. He also enjoyed doing latch-hook and puzzles often having them framed to give as gifts.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, the Rev. Marshall Poe of Managua, Nicaragua, Robert Nelson Poe of Winfield, Jay Elton Poe of Carlisle and Lee McNair Poe of Greencastle; two daughters, Coetta Jane Ramsey of Chambersburg and Joyce Ann Hornbaker of Shippensburg; five sisters, Mildred Starr, V. Eleze McKenzie, Dorothy Lawyer and Ruth Small, all of Chambersburg, and Isabell Wenger of Lancaster; and two brothers, R. Charles Poe and Theodore Poe, both of Chambersburg. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, M. Evelyn Poe and three brothers, Donald, William and Arthur; as well as one grandson.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church with the Rev. A. Graybill Brubaker and the Rev. David A. Erisman officiating. Interment was in Air Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Tide Hour, P.O. Box 151, Chambersburg; or Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, 465 Center Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Arrangements were made by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
